I was 15 years old it was about 5 in the evening... The next door neighbor a few years older asked if I wanted to go to a general admission concert to band I had never heard of... It would be my very first concert... I begged my mom to go... It was this album's tour... Springfield, MA... It was incredible. How three musicians can put this quality of a production together is amazing. Neil's drum skills and writing are timeless. The baseline is jamming. The guitar riffs spot on.

One of the few times that Neil smiles or smirks on camera during a show... It makes me chuckle!!
I believe it is because he knew the person that came out in the chicken suit (they used to have different 'guests' from back stage do this every night) and he was enjoying their basting performance, Heh.

These guys were so down to earth, you would never believe they were famous in any way, in fact, I'm not sure they realized how amazing they were!! All they cared about was making good music, & making a difference with the lyrics in their songs 💖💖💖 Canadians ROCK 😎😎😎
This is one of their more complete songs.It has everything you want in a song including different sections of music representing the music heard over the radio on variuous stations.
I saw them in Portland, OR on this tour when I was 16. The rotisserie chicken machines took the place of dryers from previous tours so the stage wouldnt look lopsided with Alex's amps on one side and nothing on the other. They used the chickens to feed the crew after the shows.
above their enormous talent, their sense of humour they use during their shows is unreal! A guy in a chicken suit coming out to baste chickens in the rotisserie behind Geddy! Too funny!! These guys like to show their audience a great time!!

I just received today my 40th anniversary vinyl edition of Permanent Waves, the album with The Spirit of Radio. I can't wait to pop it on a turntable. This song is a classic!
Haha this tour smelled like roasting chicken the whole show! Those were real chickens roasting in those three rotisserie behind geddy. Frenchi ( their tour chef) make soup for the whole crew out of them the next day . My favorite of all the tours I witnessed ( 13)

So many reactors call the title of this song incorrectly. It's The Spirit of Radio, not The Spirit of THE Radio.
This is an excellent performance, but Getty couldn't hit the high notes quite as well as in previous decades. Listen to the studio version for a somewhat different experience.
The original song off of their album was really good but years later, they butchered it. Not Good!
