I think u can make an ender chest if u have blazerod and ender pearl. It will make it easier for u. When u find some good loot place it in the ender chest so u can keep all the loots even after u die.
glitching trough blocks is a known glitch, to circumvent it try to sit in a boat/minecart on top of the flying machine. Your position and your position on th server side desync and you clip trough blocks.

You can look into making a self building bridge using dispensers and lava and water. Mumbo Jumbo built one a few years ago that wpuld work great for you. That way you can just walk behind it as it goes along. Maybe a bit more boring and longer travel time, but safer and easy enough to return.

Im talking, comfortable, no glitch seating, chests on board to hold less important items & supplies to use on the journey. Lastly, the most important thing, an ender chest in inventory for the most valuable items, for no matter how safe you make your plane, something can always go wrong and you need to be prepared. Dispenser aren't moveable, there might still be a way to make selfbuilding stuff but idk

They can't be moved by pistons! I tried this, but it broke the machine in testing.
