    Years ago I owned a 73 coronet that came from factory with 11'' rear drums. It was ordered with what was called the tow package, that also included an additional oil trans cooler in addition to the one in the radiator. It also had much larger drive universal joints. Always an ordeal when I needed to obtain parts. Radiator was huge as well. Great video guys.

    I'm a chevy fan, but keep being impressed with the other brands. My PT cruiser was a great car, up until some ass pulled in front of me. If properly maintained, these cars last. Sadly the majority of them for sale are not. I am also impressed with Dodge keeping build sheets and then retrieving them for the new owners. They don't have to do this, but all you have to do is email customer service. It's so cool getting one for a car or truck that was custom ordered.

    Never had any luck with fire cars, We had a barn fire back in the mid 80s and we had our grandfathers 69 Impala conv in the barn and me and my uncles thought we could save it we had a 2 door hardtop for parts and pulled the burnt body off the frame and had it stripped and we did the bodywork and painted it we put it all back together on the hardtop frame and wasn't even a year later it was rusting under the paint eventhough the body was acid dipped and the insides of the panels where you can't get with paint all flash rusted it was not good and the panels were weak like they were annealed. We ended up cutting the top on the hardtop we had for parts and putting in the convertable parts and panels we thouught we could save our grandfather's car but it was a nightmare and we ended up just building a complete replica of it and I tried saving a dodge powerwagon cab that went through a fire and that also didn't go well either but still running that one with the once a year or 2 yr paint jobs.

    • @bretjjjohnson7942
      @bretjjjohnson7942 Год назад

      The fire, and smoke is very acidic. It creates rust like nothing else. But repairing metal, and getting it ready too paint after a fire. Requires alot more metal prep than normal. Even though you had the car dipped. There will always be fire residue remaining in the metal pore. Even after a fire car is acid dipped. You have to make sure. They neutralize the acid after dipping. Then having the metal media blasted. Is the easiest way to remove. The residue from the pores of the metal. After that's done you da the metal. Then blow it off, and wipe the metal down with acetone. You'll know your done. When your rags remain clean. Then you spray the car with etching primer. Because etching primer acid etches the metal. Giving it something to bite into, and hold on. Think of it like this, when you're weld in panels, or patch panels. Your basically creating the same effect as fire. When done welding what do you do. You grind the weld down, and you prep your area. If you think in that aspect. You need to do that same thing. With alot less aggresive approach. Also any car that's been dipped, or had rust treatment applied, has to be neutralized right after. Or the metal will rust back. One more thing also. When it's cold inside so is the metal. When you heat up your work area. The bare metal warms up. As the metal goes from cold to hot. The metal will condensate. So let the metal warm up first. Then scuff down it down with a scotch bright. Then wipe the car down. One more time before spraying primer. If not your just sealing in moisture that can't escape.

    • @Troy_Built
      @Troy_Built 2 года назад +2

      Exactly! It's a rebody regardless if anyone wants to admit it. I have a friend that restores only E bodies for a living and sometimes there is less than 10% of the original car left. I like them just fine but don't try to convince me that it is the original car.

    • @7s29

      @@7s29 Who determines what is acceptable? My friend does mostly convertibles and I've seen places replace a hardtop also. I asked him and he says some consider it a rebody and some don't. He wouldn't call them original but he also auctions them all and does disclose it. Another friend does 1st Gen Camaros and basically said the same. It's an each to their own sort of thing.

      Honestly, as long as it’s built as the vin indicates, close enough.
      Nothing lasts forever but if you care enough about classic vehicles and their survival to the next generation, you’ll understand that quality reproduction of original is good enough when original isn’t available

    • @nicosand86
      @nicosand86 2 года назад +1

      if you have a car thats been sitting in a barn, or worse, in a field for 40+ years, how the fuck are you supposed to keep it 100% original during a restoration then? IMO if the car is rebuilt according to specc, using genuine OEM parts etc, and leaves the shop exactly how it left the factory, then the car is original. I remember one episode where they rebuilt a daytona, or maybe it was the roadrunner, cant remember, one of thos long ass cars with a 10ft high rear wing. And they spent ALOT of time finding a company that could strip the paint and rust without losing any more material of the original panels as possible.

    Local native eugenian ...grew up with Mopars in the sixties. I grew up with 50S Dodge pickups, 64 sport fury 383, and my favorite in 1968 special order **Barracuda 340 formula S fast back in forest green color.. Mom's 1st and only brand new car factory ordered from Barker Plymouth Chrysler dealer , Location where shepherd motors now has been for years.
    I am certain that car would be somewhat rare today and it was wrecked in 1970 always wondering if it got dismantled and cut up or if someone was smart enough to take it and replace some body panels... Insurance right off.
    Can you tell me how rare that car is and if you have ever come across one there locally in the Willamette Valley?
    The barracuda was promised to me upon high school graduation but unfortunately mom totaled it when someone ran a yield sign.... A sad day for me it since I was the only one to wash and do oil changes on that car even age 10.... Drove it all around the neighborhood when mom left the keys available !
    Recently I was put on a transplant list so my bucket list has become more relevant, Would love to look at especially the old barracuda like I almost had and other Mo pars imagine you guys are always busy but sometimes I get into Eugene too, take care , hope to hear from you
    By the way I completely feel it about losing your car to fire lost my hot ride with a 5.0 ... Owned that car for more than 20 years and one day it was just burnt to a crisp along with everything on my property burnt to the ground..

      @@joemonstermaker4784 Well that's the obvious argument and it's correct of course. A mass produced car is not worth that sort of money in reality. The ass will fall out of this stupidly inflated market at some point. If you want a real investment in a classic car go for a real high end thoroughbred car or a car with a significant competition history.

      I use to think those cars were one of the ugliest cars made. I always told myself I'd never own one. But it's one of those things. The more you look at em. The more they grow on you. Then before you know it. Your finally the proud owner of a Jackstand queen. That has your neighbors calling the county on you. Every few months. Hoping they'll make me remove my eyesore. Because they pretend like it ruins there entire day. The very moment they see my car. I brought mine from a junk. It needed one of front torque boxs replaced. Because it was rusted out.

      My guess is he got a full payout by insurance and he was allowed to keep the car. But if it happened 18 years ago…the cost to restore was likely 3X the price. Must be a Very Rare one to be worth it
