    It's Saturday morning, I was drinking my tea. A random youtube suggestion about someone's SOTC popped into view. Next thing you know, I was taken on an one man's obsessive journey into a swirling abyss of Casio digital blackhole with quickening paced hypnotizing chime... paralyzed from neck down, I tried to send the SOS message to my dog by blinking my eyes, but my eyes are glued to the screen ...

    Thanks for sharing the collection Greg. It's a slippery slope and those watching this video clearly feel that! I just bought my 2nd G-Shock, the GW-530A-1.. once I got that, I still felt I need to get more.. so now Casio F105 is on en route.. yet, I still feel incomplete.. so more shopping to do. At the start of 2018 I only had 11 or 12 watches. Then, over the next two years or so, I found a lot of great discounts on a lot of great watches. There for a while, every six weeks or so eBay would offer special coupons for 10-20% off almost any purchase. Those coupons are more limited lately and my eBay shopping has slowed down.

  • @alaththar819

    Casio is addictive.
    I started with auto and manual, vintage. Seiko and citizen.
    At that time, I said to my self, I will never ever buy a quarts watch.
    Well, I was wrong...
    It was a casio W800, because I want a watch I can wear during swimming.
    Then....suddenly I have 12 of them, 2 are G Shock. Some I gave it to relative. Try to narrow it down.
    At least, I feel normal now. 😁

    Wow! I feel like I have just spent an afternoon at the Casio watch museum. Very impressive collection. I am not sure I get the concept of having multiple identical watches that differ only by slight color changes. I only have one Casio (SGW100B-3V Digital Compass Twin Sensor) with a green canvas strap that I use only when I am doing something that might bang around my other watches, or when I am on a motorcycle ride where a compass could come in handy. I also use it for setting the time on watches that have wound down. I am currently fascinated by the Casio Oceanus. It is a marvel of horological technology. After seeing your collection, I am fighting the urge to jump over to Amazon and getting another Casio.

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  4 года назад +1

      Just remember that I usually said “and then I found a good deal so I bought a duplicate.” I look at it like saying, “These shirts were on sale so I bought another color in the same style,” and then it doesn’t seem so odd to have more than one. Watches can be fashion accessories too.

    Don't you find that keeping them all in fresh batteries is an expensive pain? I now have about 30 or so watches but at any one time only 3 or 4 have fresh batteries. I even decided to get into wind-up watches for a while to obviate the battery problem. The only reason I ever bought duplicates was when I took a liking to a ladies watch that the band turned out too small. I bought a second watch just to get extra links for the bracelet. The only Casio I have is a Forester FT-500.

    • @GoodTimekeeper

      I have a lot of solar powered watches (most of them are) and I change batteries here at home. I buy batteries online for only about $1 or $2 each. So I don’t think keeping the watches running is a problem.

    My Complete Casio Watch Collection
    1) F-87W 🔔 I got that ~84.
    2) SDB-300W [503] 🔔 A few years later. Lap Memory 30. Almost black.
    Then I didn't pay attention to Casio watches for quite a while.
    3) F-91W 🔔 2022. (The inner part now in the F-87W.)
    4) G-Shock GW-M5610U [3495] 🔔 I like the red square. Probably because it's similar to F-87W. One advantage with the U-version is that you can choose between DD.MM and MM.DD. Today it's 14 February 2022. (Br. Eng.) I write that in the classic way 14/2-22 🇸🇪 (as on the 14 of February 1922) so I prefer DD.MM. (Storing a file YYYYMMDD is more suitable.)
    So every 35th year or so I get two new Casio Watches.
    By the way, I also had a Casio fx-4000P (Scientific Calculator) in the good old times.
    ~
    A really good channel.
    Calm and sensible, and good, honest and thorough descriptions of the Casio watches without exaggeration or so.
    👍

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper  2 года назад +3

      Thanks. Yes, ever since I started recording video to files rather than video tapes I decided I needed a good file naming habit. The best is YYYY-MMDD for me. I got the idea from Adobe’s Lightroom software which automatically stored still photo files into folders with that naming format. I have a pretty good memory for when I did things and it’s often easy to find old photo and video files by year and date. I also add keywords to folders when I can.
      As for the date format on my watch… it’s an American thing. I think I will always be more comfortable with MM.DD. But I’m glad the other option is becoming more available.

      @GoodTimekeeper  3 года назад +2

      For a while as a teenager I didn’t wear a watch at all. I worked at a movie theatre in the 1980s and eventually I even ran the projectors. I kept a small, digital alarm clock in my pocket and used it to keep track of when to start the shows. Then I started wearing a watch again when my brother, who was in Hong Kong, bought me a cool “memory watch” digital Seiko. From that point onward I simply preferred the precision of quartz watches. If I adjusted the time about once a week I could always start the movies on time.
      I finally bought a Bulova automatic skeleton watch last year (after I made this video) and I wear it in rotation with my quartz watches.

      All in due “time” I suppose.

      Try before you buy ( hard as most are Japan only) as the bracelet cannot be removed ( has anyone done this without damaging the case?). It's stored me from wearing mine & I flip flop on whether to sell it....
      Some new models do have a leather strap.

    Hi Greg Wow what a fantastic collection, I've only got 12 but it's all about having fun, I think my next watch is going to be one that you don't have it's the Casio Wave Ceptor WV-59 a really retro looking watch which I like, I've already started to drop hints to my wife that Christmas is not to far ahead keep up the good work stay safe.

      I maintain a “Watch List” on eBay which is literally a WATCH list (except for a few odds and ends).

    I noticed that when I found the Casio that ticks all my boxes, the need to buy another one disappeared. But clearly, that is not the case with everyone.

      I could sell all my watches, keep saving money for a while and then buy a collection of ONE Rolex. I applaud people who have Rolex watches but, as for my own tastes, Casio is a better fit.
