    Decent price? I'm anti-bitmain and that prices makes me want to buy it. They priced them that low to unload them quickly.

      Yeah 800 bucks for the same performance as a $2-3k gpu rig is very tempting - even if it isn't super impressive performance, the price/mh is great.

      THey will only sell you if they have something much better for them to mine..so you can bet that mine with this for some time..then they something better so they will sell this old and then mine with better one ..this is how they work for years on all coins.

      New nvidia GPUs are still rumors. We've had no statement from Nvidia what-so-ever, which means there's atleast 6 months until release. late 2018/early 2019 release is more appropriate, heed my words.

    I think they made the hash and power equal to a 6GPU rig so it was easier to mask these on the ETH network for the last couple of months. I mean, it just looked like a bunch of people were setting up new 6 card rigs and mining ETH, right? I didn't see any uber hashrate ASIC rigs on the chain, did you? :|

    I think this ASIC miner is a very big deal because if a miner wanted to build a computer for mining, they wont just have to pay for 6 RX580, but also Main boards, huges power supplies, + Rams! So their mining computer/computers will cost like 3000$ overall...vs just 800 for an ASIC miner....

    • @TheGodfather101
      @TheGodfather101 6 лет назад +1

      It's 2 grand now. For a July shipping. Makes literally zero sense. No resale value. 6 month warranty. Risk of hard fork. Cant mine different algos. Less energy efficient (Rx 580 can go to 88 watts at the wall if bios modded and undervolted correctly).

    • @Zigouzag
      @Zigouzag 6 лет назад +1

      TheGodfather101 sorry you still live in an old civilization dude ... Chips inside today's asics are FPGA , reprogramable chips so that's why they can mine every crypto and in two months they can reprog them for the hard fork ....

    • @TheGodfather101
      @TheGodfather101 6 лет назад

      Yeah tell that to the cryptonight miner genius. No, the chips inside todays asics are asic chips. FPGA is not an asic chip. FPGA miners have FPGA chips. They are completely different tech. Once an asic chip is formatted to its specific algo, it cannot be re purposed. That is the reason bitmain sold their antminer e3 at 800 when the cryptonight fork first happened. they panicked at the news that ETH might do the same. Literally the day that Vitalak Buterin Announced that they werent going to the immediately hardfork, bam, 2000. Do your research first.

    this thing is prolly what they mine on instead of buying GPU and they need to recoup x3 costs

    Bitman is already mining with F3 Ethereum ASIC with 1500 mgh. No matter what Nvidia and AMD are going to do they will never do better on a single GPU card neither offer a better hash price performance ratio. Victory to bitman for this round.

    • @509marshal
      @509marshal 6 лет назад +5

      I don't think it's stupid to release a platform 3 times (ish) cheaper than the the current set ups? If a 6xRX580 costs $2250 and you can get the same performance at $800.00 - that also means you can get 2.8 times the performance for $2250.00. That's half a GH/s instead of a 180MH/s for the same price? I'll agree that the timing for the new releases will also come into play - but the odds you getting a higher performance from new GPUs at the same price as the ASIC is extremely low. The ASIC is cost effective and that's what miners are looking for. Global trends and market changes come second to "can I make money faster using GPUs or ASICs". The answer is an ASIC will return your money faster.

Think with all the complexities people dont know what a good hash rate is. Thats one of the things causing a stir up. But yeah you nailed it on the head. Who knows. Gpus are hard to get and the e3 could be the late mans foot in the door.

    A few points to consider THERE IS A MAINIA CRYPTO BUBBLE right now even after the price crashes. Everyone and their dog wants in. If you are informed and have been here, then you are shaking your head at what these people will toss money at: but the fact is they don't know they will lose money and will CHASE ALMOST ANYTHING CRYPTO. So when you look at that Bitmain releasing this now while those people will buy it is a no-brainer.

  • @lemmingt6207

    I disagree with you on a strictly dollars basis... even if the 1180 is capable double the hasrate at 1/4 The power of the 1080ti. The cost per hash is still lower and more attainable. So it's an alright buy In my opinion.

  • @crzces7500
    @crzces7500 6 лет назад

    You were around for Nvidea’s Pascal launch right? When AMD has said they were not releasing high end Polaris, and the 1080 was $700 usd, the 1070 $529, the 1060 released at $289 for the 6GB model.
    The new cards are going up, and I expect a much bigger MSRP jump than the Maxwell to Pascal switch.
    Now what p104 is getting 40 mh/s? Not the 1070. Not the 1070ti, and not the 1080. The 1080ti is on the p102 and the MSRP is $700 usd.
    The miner may not have the crazy speeds, the 2:1 leak was pretty dead on. 4 Vegas at MSRP would cost $1600 for about 172 mh/s. This would give you 180 for $800. Pretty much a no brainer, just like it is a no brainer that there is no way in heck Nvidea is going to double the compute power of the 1080ti and sell them for $400 a piece. I don’t understand how a new line of cards makes the miner pointless at $800 usd; heck, if it was $1200 it would still be less expensive, which would take the hash power of 3 of Nvidea’s best gaming card. Their compute cards are not going to be faster for the money. It just won’t happen.
    The Titan V which they call their most powerful next gen compute card gets 65-70 with custom memory tweaks and a bios mod while costing over $3,000 usd, I highly doubt they will have any card or combination of that gets 180 mh/s for anywhere approaching $800 usd.
    I think gpu mining is 100% in serious trouble now. Until a new coin comes out on a completely unique algorithm *WITH* a superior use case than anything out now (sort of like Ethereum did) and catches on in time (again, Ethereum didn’t go from $0.013 too $35 in a week, it was a struggle for over a year I believe; then it exploded), it is not looking pretty for people who relied on 100 card rigs to live. Make passive extra money? Absolutely. Get rich? Maybe, if that new coin is already out and you are mining it, but not probable.
    This miner has little to do with it though. Prices and the other ASICs are the big culprits. Ahh well, this seems to happen every 2nd year.
    Mining booms for a year, dies for 2, comes back, dies, comes back, dies...if history repeats it will be back in people’s houses in a couple years, ppl with really large farms will be fine, big home farms will need to get regular jobs for a bit, and people that had 1-30 cards weren’t living off them anyway, so they can just go on normally with less extra money to spend.

    The fact Ethereum was designed from the outset to be ASIC-resistant is the reason this first generation is not leaps and bounds better than what's already available in any way except cost. Someone has to buy into the first release to make revenue available for a second generation. And so on.
    The fact that Bitmain believes they've made an ASIC miner against an ASIC-resistant cryptocurrency is the headline here. It's an ASIC miner with an internal memory, but if that memory isn't upgradeable, it'll have very limited lifespan. How well it works will determine where innovation goes. Since ETH and others show that ASIC-resistant coins are drawing attention, it'll probably lead to new developments for better ASIC-resistance.

  • @anotter_one
    @anotter_one 6 лет назад

    GPU prices are supposedly going up this year, so even if power efficiency does improve it'll be redundant since you'll have to spend more to get an equivalent amount of hashing power. All of what you've mentioned doesn't even take into account the possibility of bitmain creating a better ASIC down the road. They've already stated 180MH/s is the minimum and it could actually be way more by the time it's released so it's pretty useless to make predictions based preliminary information from bitmain and next to zero information from Nvidia's new graphics cards. It's better to wait and see but as of right now things aren't too promising given casper is nowhere to be found and Vitalik has already rejected a hard fork.

  • @demigod79

    My thoughts exactly. This "ASIC" is a remarkably weak device and provides virtually no efficiency gain over what's already out there. The only advantage that it has is the sticker price, but GPUs have way more resell value and can be repurposed for other uses (the E3 is cheaper, but a GPU rig is more valuable). It might provide some more competition in the market, but it's hardly a threat to GPU mining (if anything, it might help lower the price of GPUs, which reduces the one advantage that the E3 has).
    And yet, the Ethereum mining community is completely losing their minds over this supposed ASIC and shitting on Vitalik and the developers for not hard-forking, LOL. It's quite amazing how such a mediocre piece of hardware (which won't even be out for several months) can inspire such an emotional reaction.

    I’m going to laugh so hard if eth becomes PoS instead of PoW and ALL HARDWARE will be worthless. The only thing you would be able to use any gpu or asic for would be the daggerhashimotto protocol altcoins, or other coins that aren’t part of the Ethereum ecosystem. Makes me want to invest in some of the smaller PoW coins and their networks. After all, the value of the coin tends to shadow the increase in size of their computational network of miners...

    $300 per rx480 is a lowball price in the current market. $400 is more realistic, meaning $2,400 for 6.
    You get 3 times more bang per $ from the ASIC.
    Sure new GPU's are coming but nobody knows how they wil perform yet. The 1080 line is dominating AMD right now at every price point, Nvidia's next consumer cards might only be a minor upgrade.
    AMD really needs to step up their game with their next line of GPU or face becoming irrelevant in the GPU market and that would be terrible for consumers.

    I get that this dude isnt a fan of ASICs. But at this point the E3 is much more cost effective than building a rig with similar hash. He did briefly touch on cost, but that should be the emphasis. Why would i build a rig at 3x the cost for the same hash? Then he went on to mention the new mining specific cards coming out- but again, build cost for a similar rig will be at least 2x that of the ASIC. That being said, i AM NOT buying an E3 and i do not have any GPU rigs so i have no skin in the game. I just think he should be more objective in his analysis.

    Costs less than a single 1080ti with over 5x the performance, that's going to demolish Etherium mining for GPUs. If its not forked, this may be good news for gamers (I know, miners will switch to another coin, but its going to hurt the already low profits, making it less enticing).

    You said, "I don't believe this replaces anything..." YOU SIMPLY DO NOT GET IT... Yes, it DOES replace something. WHAT? It is the actual rig being replaced by Bitmain. The E3 [180 MH/s @ 800 watts] is being replaced by the F3 [1,500 MH/s @ 800 watts]. That's what is being replaced... Do you get it now? THAT IS HOW BITMAIN WORKS. THEY ARE SELLING OLD HARDWARE AS NEW TO THE PUBLIC WHILE REPLACING THIS HARDWARE WITH NEW HARDWARE TO BENEFIT THEMSELVES. THEY DO THIS REPEATEDLY. [Wash, Rinse... Repeat].

    Bitmain bought themselves some time to develop better faster ETH ASIC. Maybe they're already using them to mine and are just dumping their gen1 slower ASIC's. Anyways the E3 did it's job and at today's ETH DEV meeting they decided this ASIC was not enough of a threat to justify an anti-asic fork at this time. Bitmain is very happy about this! I think the E3 was a deliberate old tech dump

  • @Melpheos1er

    The timing and price is clearly a way for bitmain to unload a product that will be subpar when it actualy shipped. That's another scam move from bitmain.

    It seems GPU mining has gone out of fashion finally :) Now for first time in a long while stores have GTX1080ti and similar at storage and NO ONE is bying them !!! Soon prices on GPUs will drop specially when miners start selling their rigs. ROI on GPU mining is already 2-4 years and the profit have been going down slowly and steadily for months. If you absolutely want to make money on crupto currency trading will make a lot more money much much faster...

    Stupid.. Yes! (Thank God!) Normally I hate ASIC sucks since they destroy the mining network (and they compromise decentralization). This I don't think Bitmain will have any succes with this one.
    180 Mh/s = Same as 4x RX Vega 64. These use about 150-160W each @ 44,2Mh/s when tweaked properly + CPU/mobo etc. Still less than 800W from the wall. And that is STILL not really profitable is the current ETH state (with power costs in the higher end).
    Sure.. 2400$ (600$ per card MSRP) BUT the 4 Vega cards have value to do other things (like gaming / deep learning) after the mining stops. One can build 4 awesome Gaming PC's with them next year. Vega 64 will age like fine wine regarding gaming.
    The Asic will be just a paperweight.
    I think ETH is difficult to make an ASIC for, since it is (almost only) memory optimized algo.

    ASICs will help other people to speed up and gain some coins. Compare it to experience boost for newbies in games. No one is against it there, so why not doing same thing here. After all, cryptocurrency mining is just a one big hobby/play project. Just find yourself a real job guys.

  • @kgtc
    @kgtc 6 лет назад

    The E3 isnt stupid, its the people who buy GPUs solely to mine ethereum having a retardation complex thinking that a cryptocurrency can be "resistant to ASICs"
    As of now, if you want to get into ETH, buy ETH. Im not getting into sour grapes, but this is because mining is simply not profitable unless you buy at factory prcie and have super cheap Extra High Tension electricity.
    What is an ASIC? Application specific IC. An integrated circuit can be made specifically to anything. There is nothing in Ethereum that prevents specialised hardware. A good ASIC for Eth would be one that has the GPU cores, but without the pixel shaders that we dont need, increasing performance, bandwidth per compute core, and decreasing power use.

    There is no competition this new asic is a good deal. Cheap, good mh/s, and good tdp. It's small, no hardware or software trouble shooting, and for the cost of 1 rig with 8 gpus you can buy 3-4 of them. Makes sense if you want something to mine with.
