This is absolutely brilliant stuff mate. Thanks. There's not many of these types of videos for this model. I've got a pretty bad pulley rattle and had no idea where to start. I'll start by taking the belt off and having a look at the alternator bearings.
I take it if I was to take the belt right off it would be an absolute nightmare getting it back on without stripping everything out of the way on the left first? The plan was to take the belt right off and run the engine just to see if the noise goes away. Any tips for anything else I can do to diagnose it? It's an 800 quid 150k mile car so I'd really like to fix this one myself

This video has just saved me about £60 ish. I will buy that spanner tho. Tricky with regular spanner not enough leverage.
    Good video.

I used a 14mm ring spanner, cut open ended spanner off, then bent spanner at half way point, just enough to make a swan neck. Then welded on a length of flat bar about 500mm long, hey Presto a tensioner spanner.
      Good stuff.

Not bad video, thanks. It is a shame you skipped putting the belt back on, as this is where 'I am stuck' Really annoying as I am nearly back on the road! Also some people have asked questions, where can you see the answers?

everything was working out fine for me until I tried putting the belt back into place, then my wrench slipped and I noticed that the belt tensioner bolt got stripped, cant get a grip on it anymore, any ideas how to work around that or should I just take it to an actual mechanic? :D

Taking it out ist the difficult part. Build in... took me 20 min. you could mention that you can move the metal pipe on the left to side removing rhe plastic clip.

Looks like the owner replaced a good battery which often happens without correct diagnosis and adding to expense.
