My daughter (4yo) saw me watching this video and thought I was video chatting a friend. She said "hi friend" hoping you'd respond. When you didn't I had to explain that it was just a video. She still wants to say hi, so here I am. Hello from my daughter!
I have a bunch of these on my TBR (that I haven't already read) and own quite a few ready to lock and load! As I finished Jade Legacy earlier this month (wow, what a roller coaster), this year my priority series are Bound and the Broken, Sun eater, Red Rising, Last King of Osten Ard. So excited for my reading journey
I really thought this time you were not going to mess with my TBR. Alas, I was wrong. I’m pretty much up to date with almost all the series you’ve mentioned, or at least, they are in my TBR, already… except now I think I have to add Brian Staveley to the list. Damn! 😜😜😜😂😂
Ooooh so many of my faves as well!! Really hope we get a sequel for The Empire's Ruin soon, I am desperate for more Gwenna content in my life! And I am keeping all my toes and fingers crossed that Wind and Truth and Of Empires and Dust will live up to all our (ridiculously) high expectations. Great list, Petrik 🤩
Thank you so much, Esmay! Gwenna Sharpe is one of the best characters out there. Glad you agree. So pumped for Wind and Truth and Of Empires and Dust!!
Wind and Truth or whatever Stormlight 5 will be called is my most anticipated book release ever! Also I’m so stoked about Navigators Children. This was a great video, as usual!
Yeah! The hype for Wind and Truth will be so immense. We don't have a lot of epic fantasy book release this anticipated by many again. Well, Winds of Winter and Doors of Stone if they ever come out. 🤣
This is a kick-ass list a lot of these books I'm waiting on the next books and I am messing around with The Stormlight Archive right now I have read the prologue and first chapter I'm still reading the cuckoo so I won't start connecting with it until I'm done with that keep up all these good lists and I will keep watching I'm glad to finally be a member I've been watching you for probably 2 or 3 years now and I finally join your patreon have a wonderful day
Thank you! I saw you became a patron. Super nice of you. I messaged you there, if you want to be invited to the Discord server, let me know. I'm glad to hear you've started Stormlight Archive. May it click with you!
Kaladin Stormblessed is also one of my most favourite characters along with Robyn Hobb's FitzChivalry Farseer Thanks for this Petrik, really helps me to make reading decisions. I recently read The Will of the Many after hearing you talk about it with favour, and I loved it.
Robin Hobb is adding to The Realm of the Elderlings series with a book focusing on Bee. Can’t wait for that addition!!!! Enjoyed your list! I finally picked up Red Rising series again and I’m liking it other than Darrow’s temper getting in the way!😆
Thank you! Darrow is one temperament individual for sure haha. I hope Robin Hobb will succeed at adding another book to The Realm of the Elderlings, but if not, I am super satisfied with what I have read laready! :)
Good list. I am finally going through Stormlight( I have the audiobooks) and am enjoying it a lot. I can see why folks rate it so high. For me, MistBorn will always hold a special place in my heart as my favorite Brandon Sanderson series but Stormlight shows that Brandon is more than capable of crafting a large epic fantasy and having it be focused on characters. Because one of my bigger gripes with epic fantasy is when authors don’t know when to keep it simple and focused.
Thank you, Neil! I definitely understand what you mean. Sometimes large epic fantasy series keep making themselves bigger without keeping a tighter focus on the character's journey, which is always integral to my enjoyment. Despite how much I love Stormlight, though, Mistborn will always have a special place for me as it is the series of fantasy novels that made me love reading books! :)
Im looking forward to read the Bloodsworn Saga this year !!! :D Im almost done with The Faithful and the Fallen and it has become one of my favourite series of all time ! :D Big love for Stormlight and Asoiaf too !!! :D
@@PetrikLeo You and Matt's Fantasy reviews convinced me John Gwynne is worth the time and now that im near the end of TFATF I feel really grateful and happy ! Thank you and im looking forward to continue with Of blood and bone and Bloodsworn Saga asap ! Im addicted to Gwynne now😁
I finally started Mother of Learning…. Oh my gosh. This has been EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. I’m utterly obsessed. Time travel is something the fantasy/science-fiction genre is severely lacking, and this scratches that itch big time. I’m only 30% through book 1, but at the pace I’m tearing through it I can’t imagine I won’t finish this within the next 2 weeks. Thanks for the recommendation Petrik!
Ah, that is so good to hear. I think it's a great and distinct series. Not many fantasy series use time travel as crazily as Mother of Learning did. ARC 1, 3, and 4, are all favorites. So good! :)
@@PetrikLeo welp, just finished arc 1. Didn’t maintain that incredible beginning after the 40% mark, but still a solid read. Honestly it just started to get repetitive, and the newer bits and convos weren’t particularly interesting. I’m going to read book now because that ending was very good.
I love (though i havent been able to finish it yet) Dragons of Terra. Elder Empire is still one of my favorites. Grave of Empires, Sandman Slim, Dresden, Tainted Dominion, and I'm pretty sure The Gutter Prayer and Four of Mercies will make my series list ❤ Disc World will always be on my list 🙌🏼
I have to read Discworld. It's one of the big fantasy series I haven't started yet. Not even one book finished yet. 😅 Dresden and Gutter Prayer are great, though. Dresden would be in my 16th spot!
Great list Petrik! I read "The Lies of Locke Lamora" this month just after I finished "The Silverblood Promise", and I had more fun with James Logan's work. Loved Father Chains, but I won't continue the "Gentleman Bastard" series.
Happy to see the unhewn throne on here. PS: because of your videos, I have started sun eater. I have to admit though, I’m not loving empire of silence. I have temporarily put it back down about 10 chapters in or so. It’s not bad, but it’s not great for me either. Not yet anyway.
Unhewn Throne is underrated! As for Empire of Silence, it's the most mixed received of the series. It worked for me since the beginning but plenty of readers did not love the series until they've read Howling Dark. 😄
I've read half of these and already have the other half on my TBR, with the exception of The Last King of Osten Ard. I enjoyed Memory, Sorrow and Thorn but don't have much desire to continue that world. I completely agree with you about The Empire's Ruin. That book is an easy 5-stars, and it amazes me how few people have read it.
I highly recommend for the AFFC and ADWD reread that you look into the joint-chapter reads that are out there. Reading them like they're one book was such a pleasant surprise and made the experience WIDELY different in a super enjoyable way.
Im currently reading Dark Age by Pierce Brown, but I’m looking to start Empire of silence soon thanks to you! I think all the new attention is definitely due to yourself and Daniel Greene. I’m just struggling to find an affordable copy- £12 for a paperback is insanity!
Awesome. Let's see whether you'll love Sun Eater more than Red Rising Saga or not. Dark Age was already super dark, but Kingdoms of Death (4th book in Sun Eater) was even more. Crazy, really. And yeah, the price of the series is a tricky situation. The low stock made the price of the physical books more expensive than it should be!
Great list Petrik! Regarding aSoIaF, have you read Fire and Blood? It's amazing, and I almost look more forward to the next book in the duology about the Targaryen dynasty than the continuation of the main series.
Ooh Fires of Vengence I fully forgot that I read that and we’re still waiting for the next, hope it does indeed come soon. Ember Blade series is very much high on my list. I do hope that the next one can bump up to a higher overall star rating as I agree I think that the first was the best one of those two so far. Sullivan is always on my list. Will read anything that he brings out :) I do need to get to Ryan Cahill. Everyone seems to be talking about this and I definitely need to get on this bandwagon! I certainly will be looking into the Brian Staveley series too. I’m intrigued by that one. I need to continue both Red Rising and Suneater as I loved the first trilogy for RR and the first book in Suneater. Definitely need to get back into both very soon.
It has been a while since Fires of Vengeance! I'm surprised by how long it took. But yeah, Ember Blade is amazing. The sequel is great but isn't as good, I think the third book will be superb again. I think you will love The Bound and the Broken and the rest of Sun Eater/RR. They're all so good!
Awesome list with so many overlaps with me! I’d also have the Dresden Files near the top, along with Dungeon Crawler Carl. Can’t wait to try Tad Williams and Ryan Cahill and also get into the Blood-sworn books since I love Gwynne so much. Stormlight and Sun Eater are also in my top-3!!
Thank you so much, brother! I really need to start Dungeon Crawler Carl. I heard nothing but amazing things about it. And I think you'll love Tad Williams and Ryan Cahill's books. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on them! :)
Thanks for your work. Thanks to you I have discovered a treasure trove of series I shall embark into reading or already have. Currently reading " The justice of Kings " by Richard Swan which I deem excellent.
You're welcome! The Justice of Kings is great. It's my favorite of the trilogy. Thank you so much for tuning in, too. Glad I can help you find great books to read! :)
You got a pretty solid list I think most fantasy readers could get behind. I first read Chris Gooding last year and I will have to add The Ember Blade to my TBR. I also still need to check out Rob J. Hayes, Ryan Cahill and Brian Staveley - all new Authors for me, possibly in this year or the next. My Top 10 Ongoing Series: 10. Dead Djinn Universe by P. Djeli Clark - I would like to read more books written in this world and series by this author. 09. The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher - Short, fun and easy-to-read books make these a good pallet cleanser. 08. Between Earth and Sky by Rebecca Roanhorse - The second book stumbled with middle-book syndrome, so hoping the finale is better. 07. The Age of Uprising by Richard S. Ford - This is a mid series, but I believe the author is capable and I'm rooting for it to develop into something great. 06. The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson - Lower on my list only because the series is becoming more and more sci-fi oriented, which is not my genre of choice. 05. War Arts Saga by Wesley Chu - The first two books were both solid, and I can't wait to see how this author completes the series. 04. The Band by Nicholas Eames - I loved both of the first two books. 03. The Gentlemen Bastards by Scott Lynch - Such a well-written friendship and Rogue-type characters. 02. The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne - Last year, he became a must-read author for me thanks to this series along with The Faithful and the Fallen. 01. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin - this is the series I would most enjoy seeing get finished, but also the least likely to happen.
Thank you so much! From your list, which is a superb list, I certainly have to read War Arts Saga and The Age of Uprising. The rest, I have read them all. I will read War Arts Saga this year!
I'm currently reading the Of Blood and Bone Trilogy right now... 📚🥰📖 will be picking up Book 2 of The Gentleman Bastards in a month or 2, as well as book 2 of the Bound and the Broken. I'm so looking forward to new releases from Evan Winter & Pierce Brown! 😊 personally, I am also highly anticipating Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse and Jay Kristoff's Empire of the Damned... 📚🥰📖
Nice. Gentleman Bastards is great. I am waiting for Evan Winter's and Pierce Brown's newest book, too. The same for Mirrored Heavens but I have to reread the series from the beginning! :D
Don't forget to read Brothers of the Wind by Tad Williams. It's a novella set in the Last King of Osten Ard series, and should be read after The Heart of What Was Lost.
Great video. Other than Rob Hayes, I am involved with all your other series. Isn't the Red Rising series complete? I must have approx. 150 ongoing series, yikes.
Hmm im VERY surprised at this list. So many i was not expecting so high. Im glad stormlight is good cuze im stil half way book one and i think is very good. Not sure why but i expected (even thogh i have not read it) sun eater to win. So im hype for storm light now. I looove good magical stories.😊 fantastic explanation leo. As usual. Bey
Thank you so much! Stormlight gets even better in Words of Radiance, my favorite book in the series. But all the books are amazing. Sun Eater is very close to matching it, and who knows, it might just get there after the next few books! :)
I find as I get older that I no longer want to start reading incomplete series. i've read many of the books you've listed and continually grow frustrated by the long wait between certain novels.
Hello, great video as usual) Are you aware of Dungeon crawl Carl series? I just started reading and it's great and fun so far. It's a gem for me as video games enjoyer)
I am shocked Never Die Broken Binding edition isn't sold out! Really looking forward to that one. It's also going to be fascinating to see where Hierarchy slots into this list once The Strength of the Few is out, I think it could easily be a top 5 contender, especially if Stormlight Archives is considered finished with the next book and you do this video again after that. Personally I would remove ASOIAF from this list and replace it with Arcane Ascension, I liked the first 2 books but I don't really care for the series all that much, I doubt I'll ever do a reread but I probably will read Winds of Winter if it does come out. I would also put A Pattern of Shadow and Light in place of The Osten Ard Saga, I've only read a part of The Dragonbone chair but it just didn't click and I got bored and DNF'd it but I don't know if A Pattern of Shadow and Light is eligible for this list after the tragic death of the author, I have a small hope they find someone to carry it on, I would love to see her work completed. I think I'd also have Gentlemen Bastard a bit higher up my list, I agree the 3rd book isn't as good but I think a lot of that is just a testament to how good book 1 and especially book 2 were!
I know right? Never Die The Broken Binding Press looks amazing. I can't believe it's still there. I hope it will sold out soon. I think last I heard more than 1000 copies are gone already. I cannot wait to read the second book of Hierarchy. I'm sure it will shot up my ranking if it's as good as The Will of the Many! And yeah, I am considering The Stormlight Archive finished after this for the next decade. :)
whenever you do these kinds of videos, i think to myself, man do i even read? 🤣 all these books are on my tbr and i have not yet read a single one LMAO (except the lies of locke lamora, red rising, and stormlight of course)
The Lord of Demons is currently set to release on March 21 this year, at least here in America Edit: Ignore this- it was apparently a placeholder date. Thanks Petrik Leo.
@@PetrikLeo DARNIT! My friends and I were planning to buddy read it- shoot. Thanks for letting me know though… I’ll have to find a way to take it off my calendar.
First, BookTube, can y'all start putting out videos with books I've already completely read? I've read 5 of these 15. Sincerely, my TBR pile :D Second, Petrik, what version of Name of the Wind was that? I've got the paperback and I think I need to upgrade to whatever you were showing :D
Great list, Petrik! I’m reading through Empire of Silence and find his prose to be a bit challenging at times. Have you found the style and pacing to change throughout the series? I want to stay with it, but it feels a bit slow halfway through.
Thank you so much! Hmm, suitability to prose is very subjective. But I agree the middle portion of Empire of Silence is slower than the rest of the series. 😁 Howling Dark and beyond is more varied. Style of writing is mostly the same, though.
The people talking about loving a feast for crows and dance of dragons upon rereads are blowing smoke up your ass, they are by far the worst books in the series but what do you expect when the first 3 books are 10/10 best fiction I've ever read. Crows is a dip in quality but its still solid, dragons on the other hand.... you can toss that book in the trash and forget it existed imo.
Haha, I guess I'll find out eventually whether the reread of Feast and Dance will proceed smoothly or be as disappointing as my first read. They are indeed the worst books in the series, though. :)
This mans been solely responsible for the 80% increase in my tbr list. So i'm excited!
I am so pleased to hear that. I'll increase that further this year! :)

Hi Petrik. Remember to read The Heart of What Was Lost before The Witchwood Crown, it is essential to the series .
Already did. Highly enjoyed it. 🙂
@@PetrikLeo Whoops, sorry, I should have known you would not make a rookie mistake like missing the smaller novels! Great video by the way.
I will read it, but Tad Williams himself said to read it after Empire of Grass in publication order. So that's what I'll do. 🙂
Awesome list!!
Thank you so much! 😃
Great video.
Other than Rob Hayes, I am involved with all your other series. Isn't the Red Rising series complete?
I must have approx. 150 ongoing series, yikes.
Thank you, Frank! Red Rising saga is not finished yet. Still one book left! 😁
Understandable. I am very selective with some series, too. Many amazing completed and ongoing series for us to read! :)
Afraid about to add The Lord of Demons to the Triangle too- no updates in a long time
It will be a bermuda square. 😅
The Band was such a fun read.
I totally agree! :)
Hello, great video as usual) Are you aware of Dungeon crawl Carl series? I just started reading and it's great and fun so far. It's a gem for me as video games enjoyer)
Yep! Planning to start Dungeon Crawler Carl this year. Heard so many superb things about it!
Tad williams otherland series is so good as well. Its often missed but think its better than his fantasy
I plan to read Otherland after I finished Osten Ard Saga! 😊
@@PetrikLeo look forward to those reviews
Hahaha! I know this feeling. Sometimes I see a series popping up and I think... "WHY HAVEN'T I READ THIS THIS AND THAT!?" 🤣
I enjoyed reading of darkness and light will star of war and ruin
Of War and Ruin is even better. Enjoy!
The Lord of Demons is currently set to release on March 21 this year, at least here in America
Edit: Ignore this- it was apparently a placeholder date. Thanks Petrik Leo.
That has been confirmed to be false. The one on Amazon is a placeholder date. 😔
Hahaha! That's fair. This is the recently released Kingkiller Chronicle Gollancz edition. They don't ship to the US though.
@@PetrikLeo Sacrilege!!! Thanks for the info though.
So many books to read...so little time!
So true 😅
Bermuda triangles 😂
What a lovely way to phrase it
Hahaha it's true! Once you're in, you can't escape. :D
And Michael J Sullivans writing has gotten sooooo much better since the Revelations.
Oh absolutely!
THE BAND!!
YESSSS
I’m about 60% of the way through demon in white and I can’t put it down. Using this video as a break lol
It's such an amazing book. Enjoy it while it last! 😃
Read at least one book of 9/15. I'm going to have to give Bloody Rose a second go. I loved Kings of the Wyld but couldn't get into Bloody Rose.
That's understandable. Bloody Rose is different compared to KotW. I loved them both, though! 😃
You’re a worthy champion of the Sun Eater empire haha
Haha, thank you so much! Well, you're an earlier champion than me! :D
The Wondering Inn.
I got no notification!
That's odd!
@@PetrikLeo better late than never lol
A random question for you my friends what kind of app do you guys use to track your tbr list?
I use Goodreads only. 😅
Thumb number 5 (our little ritual)
Hahaha well done.
Maybe i missed but you didn't mention Wheel of time? I thought you were still reading that series.
You didn't miss it. Book 7-9 is bringing the ranking of the series down. Hard. For me. 😅 Plus, the series is finished already despite my journey.
@@PetrikLeo Ah ok.
Aww no Whell of Time right now. So sad ahah. At least it made me more at easy in starting Empire of Silence
Haha Wheel of Time is finished even though I haven't completed it yet. This list includes only ongoing series.
@@PetrikLeo That makes sense. I tought it was your ongoing series. Ahahha dumb mistake
i guess i need to order new bookshelves 🙂i don't think my bank will approve another loan 😅😆
Oh my god. 🤣🤣🤣
No Dresden Files Petrik? Sad day…
It would've been in my 16th rank, tbh. Very close. Haha
Damn so hierarchy is disqualified since there’s only 1 so far?
Yeah. Otherwise this list would be mega long. Also, a series need to have two books out first to technically be counted as a series.
No Dandelion Dynasty?
Dandelion Dynasty is finished. This is for an ongoing seriesm
👍👍👍📚🤖🚀
😃
Dresden Files not in the top 15 makes me sad 😂
It's the number 16 spot, to be honest 😂
@@PetrikLeo 😂😂 drat
The people talking about loving a feast for crows and dance of dragons upon rereads are blowing smoke up your ass, they are by far the worst books in the series but what do you expect when the first 3 books are 10/10 best fiction I've ever read. Crows is a dip in quality but its still solid, dragons on the other hand.... you can toss that book in the trash and forget it existed imo.
Haha, I guess I'll find out eventually whether the reread of Feast and Dance will proceed smoothly or be as disappointing as my first read. They are indeed the worst books in the series, though. :)
I thought wrath was the weakest of the series . Really brought the series down
It's my favorite of the series. But to each their own! 😃
Awful list (it's not 100% like my own which is ofc the one objective true list)
Okay I believe you Objective Individual!
@@PetrikLeo very well, you're forgiven for your bad taste
Great list!
Thanks!
