Who gets a 4.5 m credit line with an illegal bookie? An interpreter? BS.
You need to cover all of Tony’s investigation into this Ohtani story 🕵🏻♂️
.
If Ohtani is found to have bet on his games, and isn't banned, Pete Rose should immediately be reinstated and placed in Cooperstown.
Exactly I mean the fact he isn’t still is just mind blowing
Even if he just paid off the gambling debts of his friend that it was a step too far. You think you could have found an intermediary to help them out. Used his own bank account was criminally stupid and could be worth a charge even if he wasn't the one betting
No bets were on baseball.. go cry for Pete rose on a diff story
Reckless Speculation
Regardless whether Ohtani gambling on baseball or not, he or one of his people should have advised that he plays in a state in which gambling is not legal.
wow they actually talked about the thing in the title of the video said
Right!!
Producer F'd up!
Ohtani clearly was gambling. There is no way a bookie would extend millions in credit to an interpreter, and there is no way an interpreter employed by the Dodgers would be able to initiate millions in wire transfers from Ohtani's bank account. That cover story is absolutely ridiculous.
Yup, he definitely was. I believe it's a one year ban for illegal non-baseball gambling. We'll see if MLB has the balls to do it to their biggest star.
So he was gambling. Who f**king cares. It's his money. As long as he's not betting on baseball. Making this story bigger than it is.

The stench of our hypocrisy is unbearable. We constantly promote gambling like it's Black Friday & Christmas and then we act 'shocked'. 😎
The fact that this is sponsored by draft kings is beyond hilarious
This sounds like the greatest 30 for 30 ever produced
Smh. The fact that some states have legal stuff and some don't, it's all dumb. "Gambling" is illegal in California, and in my state.. yet i live walking distance from a casino/horse track. There's tons of lottery tickets you can buy. But.. you can't use DraftKings. Lol it's all dumb.
Remember gambling is sanctioned but native Americans the native Indians are the only one who can facilitate and operate any type of gambling when they say gambling it’s illegal in a state it just means the specific tribe doesn’t allow any outside gambling that’s not supervised under them , gambling /casino is literally reparations for the native Americans for their genocide

Mizuhara's gambling habit rubbed off on Shohei as they spent a lot of time together. They both enjoyed gambling together, and Shohei provided the funds. There is no way Shohei was completely ignorant of his finances. Their stories keep changing because they are doing an awful job at damage control and trying to protect Shohei's career.
The Washington Post published a feature article on Mr. Bowyer's identity. Although he declined to be interviewed in person, they succeeded in eliciting valuable comments from his lawyer, Diane Bess.
Beth acknowledged that Bowyer is a bookmaker, and commented, "He has never spoken to Ohtani, never met him, never emailed him, and the only person he had in contact with was Ippei." It is said that Ohtani's name was found in the bank's remittance records, but only Mizuhara was involved in the bet, and she asserted that "there is not a single athlete among Mr. Bowyer's customers in the first place."
When asked why Bowyer let a professional interpreter with an annual income of only six figures swim to such a high level of debt, she replied, "Why? Because he's Ohtani's best friend." On the other hand, she said that he "does not know" the face value of the debt that Mr. Mizuhara has.
Beth described Mizuhara as an "addictive gambler." Speaking to federal prosecutors investigating Bowyer, she said, "I got an inquiry from ESPN in January this year, and I called them (federal prosecutors), and I told them about Ohtani's involvement, but they didn't show any interest."
It's very clear that from the very beginning, Bowyer's target was Ohtani. Ippei was simply a bait.
I hate sports gambling and the effect it's having on the entire sports world.
Great Ebert quote Adnan 🙌🏼 him Siskel and Kael did so much for evolving cinema criticism into a productive art form that helped drive the art instead of just sell or decry it. Feels like a lot of YT essay format still pulls from their spirit, always nice to hear their actual words pulled out
It was Pepe Silva!
More than anything Shohei wishes he had taken English classes after baseball practice.
His poor English speaking is the biggest tool in his bullshit Arsenal.
Yeah he’d lose his cover if he did that so..
@@1TightMinute He can't cover from a Federal Investigation by multiple agencies. The *actual* evidence clearly showed Ohtani was a victim of theft, ya'll jumped the gun big time.
@@XxXDestroyer no it doesn’t.
Massive deferred payments in Ohtani’s contract a lot more suspicious now
@@limitlesspursuit because if he has a gambling problem, he might burn through that money quickly and post playing career be broke. Deferred payment assures guaranteed income in the future, and sectioned out, so that acts as the governor on gambling, not actual self discipline to not gamble. But again all speculation at this point. But still suspicious
Hmmm🤔
Sounds like too responsible of a solution for someone with a gambling problem.
🙄 No ugh Stop lol. BUT even if guilty we'll never know, he'll face no consequences, & Ippeis family will be generationally rich.
How about all that sponsorship money. It's he could structure the contract like that.
Anyone remember PETE ROSE? He claims he never HAD his assistant bet on Baseball either….yet-he’s still banned for life.
Ohtani is clearly involved, there's just no bookie that would run that balance to a no-name bettor.
I love how people are ignoring that Ippei , like all translators, is the guy who is responsible for getting these foreign born players settled in America. Making sure to get them id cards, helping with opening bank accounts, looking over loans to interpret things with accountants etc. Therefore, he was well aware of a LOT if not pretty much all of Ohtani's personal details including account #s and passwords. @@JasonZiegler-k5b I love how people completely ignore Japanese honor culture. If he stole this money, gambled it away, and then was caught, it would be an unfathomable dishonor to him and his family. The Japanese value honor and loyalty far more than money. He would have killed himself already.
@@jmorris023 it's a good thing that Ippei, who was in born in Japan , actually grew up in LA not in Japan then, huh? Anyone who knows about betting with a bookie knows that 4.5 million in credit is something that multi millionaires/billionaires get. Not normal folks. Common sense should tell you that Ohtani HAS to be involved cause aint no interpreter getting 4.5 million in credit. Its just that simple.

We need the booky data. Bets slips 🤔
Just a matter of time, everything will be revealed 😅
Burned after settlement. But there's no doubt the ticket writer would know if there was an Angels bet from that account.
You would have to be pretty incurious and naive not to at least investigate. That money went directly from his account. His story doesn't make a lot of sense. We'll probably never know for sure but I will probably always assume the interpreter is taking the fall.
I love how people are ignoring that Ippei , like all interpreters, is the guy who is responsible for getting these foreign born players settled in America. The fact that the money when directly from otani's account kind of makes me think he wasn't the one placing bets. If you were to go as far as to use a middle man to place your bets because you know it's illegal, you wouldn't wire money directly from your account with your name on it. You would place the money in an account that isn't directly traceable to you or at the very least give the money to the middle man to place the bet.
@@GoodToBeGold08 lmao You must be a fan f one of the teas Ohtani spurned in 2018 or in this offseason.
Could it be that Ohtani was using his interpreter to, in effect, launder his bets?
Yes. That is literally what everyone is worried about.
@@roachasaurus2020 if this theory is proven true, I think Ohtani’s going to become the Pete Rose of the 21st Century.
There’s no way the most famous superstar athlete in the world, Shohei Ohtani, primed since childhood to be the chosen one in baseball, gambled by placing a bet using WIRE TRANSFER/ CHECK WITH HIS NAME, DOLLAR AMOUNT, DATE, TIME, PAYED TO BOOKIE’S NAME. To me That’s the obvious that jumps out, maybe he knew about Ippes gambling debt, and being a good friend paid off the debt, which is perfectly legal, but just a bad look.
@ghingisoverland6932 maybe is not smart
@@ghingisoverland6932, I agree with you. I really think Ippei has a gambling addiction.
Ohtani has a huge team of financial experts, assistants and support staff so it's easy for the left hand to not know what the right hand is doing. I worked in the Trust industry (managing wealthy individual's assets and employee benefit plans and corporate and government retirement funds, etc.) for 20 years and let me tell you, we were often understaffed, overworked, and each person was specialized, knowing their own particular job functions well but not knowing what other people's jobs were in detail. There was a lady officer in our company who had been embezzling money for years from one of her wealthy clients and the only way it was caught was that she went on a vacation and there just happened to be an audit while she was away and that is when the auditors found out; otherwise they would have never discovered the crime. When a lot of people are involved in an operation or organization, it is easy to not question every transaction and just assume someone else is monitoring things. It's called the "bystander effect" or "diffusion of responsbility" phenomenon. Kind of like the incident when Kitty Genovese was raped and killed in NYC and many people in the apartment building heard her cries for help as it was being committed but assumed someone was going to call the police or help her, so no one did anything.
Apparently the bets were on European soccer games and soccer is big in Japan meaning Ohtani could have been interested.
Sorry, but gambling is not worse than steroids. If he gambled on MLB games, maybe, but this affected zero other people otherwise.
Wrong, someone who gambles and plays has an incentive to throw games which directly impact the entire game.
Wrong, roach

That's baseball's fault for Being so militant about it for a century and then completely flipping on their head
How so? The integrity of the players involved in the game is paramount. If they’re throwing games, what’s the point?
lol🤣well said!
Professional athletes with the ability to impact games are way to competitive the would only bet on themselves. People act like it's 1919 still and these players are making peanuts. They're multimillionaire that live in the lap of luxury. The only players you could potentially corrupt are Minor Leaguers and maybe a bench player, they couldn't impact the game enough to be valued to "gamblers".

My question here is if in Japanese baseball gambling is allowed. Could it be that Shohei Ohtani is still operating largely within the cultural norms of Japanese baseball?

All the actual evidence points to ohtani. “The interpreter said he did it and the bookie is a bad person” is the defense. It doesn’t matter they aren’t going to dig bc they don’t want to kill their golden goose. If this was the old days then he would already be out but people in this generation want to believe lied to. ohtani was the one gambling....do you really think the other guy had control of over 5 million dollars....i know MLB wants to protect him but lets be be real....ohtani could not just bet 10 thousand on a game....gambling is about the rush when you win...but every gambler bets based on what he earns or owns
He was DEFINITELY the one gambling. Given when he’s in the US and where he’s from, it seems highly unlikely he was gambling on sports without doing it on baseball.
Ohtani is untouchable
Not to be a massive Chud in the RUclips comment section but at 13:39 it means something different over there. It means finger hearts in Korean culture not a money sign
Shohei can’t even understand English, needs his interpreter to point him to the toilet he’s gonna go online and learn the odds and place bets? Shohei by all accounts is a dedicated disciplined person. Deferring 680M for the organization to help win a championship, giving a teammate,s wife a Porsche for her husbands jersey number, giving his all star winnings to his teams support staff, helping a friend get out of a gambling debt. This makes more sense than Shohei the degenerate gambler, with no discipline, needs his interpreter to help him place bets with a shady bookie cuz he needs a rush or needs more money, tell his interpreter to make up a story then lie about it to take the fall for him and ruin his friends life? Or could it be that the interpreter was the degenerate gambler who got carried away and kept increasing his bets in order to cover the mounting losses to the point he had to ask his rich friend for help. The friend reluctantly agreed but rather than give him the money to be gambled away, decides to send the money himself from his account to the destination not knowing he was sending to a shady individual.
