MewithoutYou has almost impossibly dense lyrics sometimes. In the opening lyrics, fox is basically saying that maybe they were better off in the circus train rather than being lost in the wilderness. At least on the train they had nesseities and could pretend that life was better. It also reflects Fox's post-structuralist philosophy and their understanding of God under said philosophy. Bear's response (No, I don't know if I know Though some, with certainty insist "no certainty exists") is saying that Bear doesn't know if they are better off here or on the train. It's also very much in reference to Rene Descarte's second meditation on philosophy; "I will suppose then, that everything I see is spurious. I will believe that my memory tells me me lies, and that none of the things that it reports ever happened. I have no senses. Body, shape, extension, movement and place are chimeras. So what remains true? Perhaps just the one fact that nothing is certain." However, Bear's phrasing betrays his feelings on this, he can't fully get on board with Descartes. In 11 lines we have been told not only the philosophical frameworks these characters operate under, but also how they feel about the journey they are on.
4:40 i make ambient music and i double drown everything in reverb. seeing how cozy and intimate this sounds, i must try it. this is a stylistic evolution moment for me
My interest is piqued by these two tracks today. I was not familiar with mewithoutYou, but I like them more than I would have expected from the name. Always nice to discover new bands from the Philadelphia are that I at least somewhat like, but mostly it's been misses on that front. I feel a little bit at home in the combination of religious references (although I'm just picking up on the Christian ones, I think) and local references to Asbury Park (for instance). We were an Ocean City family, but "down the shore" in yet another NJ resort established by Methodist clergymen is close enough to feel familiar. Not that I share their apparently religious attitude toward life. I think I may be on the way to developing my own spirituality, but one which does not bring comfort! Did I hear/feel some ska at the beginning of this song? Anyway, they may be too spoken word for me to put them on, on regular rotation, but I will probably check them out further at least.
I was thinking to myself "that sounds like Hayley Williams, but it's probably just me listening to a lot of Paramore recently", so when you said it actually was her I was mindblown.
Erdve comments: 'Neigti' in Lithuanian means ''Deny''. The song and video is about denial as a collective mindset, where fundamental moral beliefs form the basis of a social identity. In this case, those beliefs cannot be challenged, otherwise the whole understanding of one's existential identity is at stake. Facing the truth would mean the loss of that identity, therefore considered a threat by itself. This poses a great challenge and lack of judgement of current geopolitical problems and is one of the reasons why, for example, an unjust war, is not being seen for what it is by the majority of society of a country who started the war.
MORE MEWITHOUTYOU! (I'm the guy that ranted about them last time you reacted to them😊. )
We're absolutely blessed 😂

this is so raw. exemplary use of energy throughout a song
You should do a whole album review for this album, its a concept album.
