    Take pictures and a monument of the calibration picnic park for camping and tourist. That was quite achievements and an enormous undertaking for our proud American students. God bless America

    I was born in 1976, and lived just 10 miles from the dam. I remember this as a kid, passing it at least once a week. It had always made me proud to see it. I thought it was mine. I was really young then. I hope the repaint it.

    I loved seeing the Prado dam when I was a kid. We called it the 76 dam long before we knew the name of it. Thanks Adam for bring back memories. I did sign the petition to save it.

    i used to drive past prado dam and park in the mid-eighties when i commuted from long beach to chino. that entire section of the 91/71 was completely rural. it's been built up so much now, it kind of makes me happy that all of the mcmansion people have to deal with a a huge decaying mural. i actually think it looks better the way it is than if it was restored!

    I live right up the freeway from there and it would be a shame to get rid of it. Thanks for featuring it and giving some notice to history that may soon be lost. Sign the petition to save it people.

    I'm a native SoCal resident and can remember driving that stretch of the 91 all the time. That was one of those landmarks I'll always remember. To hear that it may go away, that really saddens me. I say to repaint it and celebrate our centennial!!!

    Man my grandparents moved to Chino in 86 and I remember seeing that mural (was in way better shape then and the freeway was just a 2 lane road, not an actual freeway yet). I forgot about it until I stumbled across this newer adventure. Very cool and brought back some memories.

      Aubrey Williams What has age got to do with it? I'm in my mid 50's and I would be willing to repaint it had I been one of the students who worked on it. Why do people feel that when you are old you aren't able to do the things you did when you were younger? I don't think repainting the mural would be that hard a thing to do.

    I used to ride my Motorcycle around that area and rode it up the Dam several Times , Stay off the Red Paint , its Slippery . The most fun part was way at the back of the Spillway (on top) there is a Transition about Eight Foot tall and we would go crossways at 60 MPH and veer into the Transition and stick to the wall "Indianappolis 500 style" . Even though the Transition is staight and not a curve we were able to lean over to a Horizonal position for few seconds . If you crashed and went over the top , then it was 100 feet to the ground below . - I dont do stuff like that anymore . I'm an Adult now .

    • @punchline43
      @punchline43 9 лет назад

      DeeL2003 Well your intentions seem patriotic enough, but your use of the term "Murica" throws me a little since it's been used as a crude form of slang typically indicating the user of the term to be a kind of brain-dead gung-ho elitist fool. You're either unfamiliar with it's common use or you're mocking America (USA) which you are perfectly free to do, but I just see a contradiction in your initial comment. If you had genuine respect for your country you would've said "USA!" instead. Perhaps you're just another troll, I don't know but they have been thankfully rare on TDW videos.

    I remember the spillway before the mural. By 1975, the spillway had become horribly tagged. A prominent tag was "NIXON." I think it appeared before 1973, so it may have been a derogatory reference to Vietnam policy before Watergate. It was not surprising that something was done to paint over all that tagging; however, the elaborate mural was a surprise and something of a counter-reaction to the previous content. If the mural were to be restored, an update to the theme should be considered. Out of context, it reads like a tombstone, suggesting that freedom ended in 1976.

    The paint has been tested and found negative for lead content. This will accelerate the army corps of engineers' plan to strip the mural. The only govt head in corona that has even bothered to weigh in on the subject has referred to the mural as 'old' and 'irrelevant '. This does not bode well for for it's restoration
