Sorry to sound like a troll but God, that exhaust ruins the bike. Part of the joy of a Blackbird is the stealthy way it makes its power and speed. They won’t do 200mph but who honestly cares? They are sooooo well made, a joy to own.

Agreed. I had plans to get rid of the stock exhausts on my 97 carbie when I first got her, but I actually like the stock sound. Loud enough at idle, but not obnoxious at speed. I may eventually get some Delkevic slips ons, but I'm not in a hurry.

  • @Moggy471

I'm on my second BB the first was a 97 carb model which was fantastic but only ever claimed about 176 MPH or so (Only :) )
I had low 170's out of it on the clock so probably would have been around 165 but that was plenty on the roads.
I now have a 99 FI model that would do 180 back when it was new but we are both older and I'm a little wiser now.
What these bikes are best at is eating miles, 90 feels like 50 on anything else, 120 feels like 70.
If you are reasonably tall and want to ride a long way fast then this is as good a bike as has ever been made.
One caveat. It is very very easy to be going faster than you think you are. Watch the clocks or your license will be gone.

The CBR1100XX will not do 200mph stock, not without a decent amount of cash and work. They're good for give or take 180... which is close enough. The "exhaust" is just 2 of those Radiant Cycles exhaust tips in place of the stock link pipes and stock cans. I'd either put back the stock exhaust or buy new slip-ons for it.... and get rid of those horrible "carbon-look" levers. I own a 97(96 built) Bird.... fantastic bike... with proper upkeep and someone somewhat responsible, you can expect an easy 100k miles at the very least... there's been some with over 200k still cruising around the UK....one of the best bikes ever built, even without what the new bikes have. The carbed bikes are the best (96-98) and the early injected ones are right behind them (99-00), the later injected ones got slower and more restricted. Definitely a cult following with the Blackbird.

Good vid! I've just bought (in Dec 2022)my first ever blackbird a 2001 injection model with custom paintwork for a very cheap price(under £1,400 )not ridden it yet.i like the magnetic tank pad on that bike in the vid.And it probably looks better without a grab rail but you need one really

I topped my 97 super blackbird at 175 before I backed out of it, probably wouldve hit at least 185 and i wasnt even close to red lining it. Did that once and never again.. was fun but yeah no need for it.

Great video! Saving money do buy it! A quick question is there a difference between 2002 model and 2006? Should i consider it both of these bikes have the same 90.000 km on them at around 2.000 euro both of them but one of them is 2006 with double Yoshimura exhaust while the 2002 got single exhaust pipe Remus,Thank you in advance!

LOL! I own a 99 Bird. It’s hella fast! But the only way it does 205 stock is downhill with a tailwind and a fat lady riding pillion! 176mph Gen 1. Gen 2 which came with R.A.M. Air added another 2.5 for 178.5. mph.

I just bought my son a 99 carb model with 51000ks on the clock. Lovely condition. Just needed forks seals and a front wheel bearing. Great condition except for a damned cheap exhaust which we will sort soon enough. I'm in south Africa where bikers like to speed. Gotto keep a lid on my boy; he's only 22

Figured I'd asked out of excitement and curiosity.
      I thought Gen 1(Late 96/97 - 98) was carb
      Gen 2 (99 - 00 "Best Years") EFI
      Gen 3 (01 - 03 in the United States)
Not sure about the other Gens

A beautiful, elegant sports-touring bike, but anyone putting an obnoxiously loud, "Stop what you're doing and look at me", aftermarket exhaust system on any bike and drives it in public deserves to have it impounded. Jackasses with loud exhausts give a bad bame to bikers.

  • @fw1421

The Blackbird was a nice bike. Honda’s answer to the Kawasaki ZX11. They never sold that many back in the day and I haven’t seen one in a good 25 years. 205 in the original tune? He’s smoking crack! They were NEVER anywhere near that fast. Pull up some old back issues of Motorcyclist and read the truth.

They weren't built for drag or even racing, they were specifically built for top speed... hence being the fastest production bike in the world for a couple years (top speed). Fantastic bike though, more of a sports tourer or a "gentleman's sport bike".

Beautiful bike but an absolute cop magnet with that exhaust. The noise would be irritating not just for everyone around but the rider too.
I guess if I was still 25 the noise would be alright, but at my current age If I could find them, stock exhaust would be going back on as soon as possible.

off the top of my head i will say 174. some guys who tested it on cycle magazine may have got 178.
the zx11 or zx12 held the throne and this broke that. with some light mods maybe up in the 180's.
