It’s frustrating because you can see clear improvement in our team, but the teams we’re playing have also improved a lot and at faster rates. But we have to remember that we are, in fact, improving from the lowest of the low
Guy's the #1 reason Tech is behind the 8 ball is money . Places like Alabama,Georgia and Texas are spending 15 million plus. Tech only has 5 to 7 million. So if you want a national championship, send a check today
Man people needed to hear that. Johnsons said that in his interview when Collin’s came in saying we’re gonna be great again. When really maybe when Bobby Dodd was coaching we were great but we had the best stretch in the last 40 years when he was coach. So I don’t get why people have high expectations that we’re going to the natty in our second year like GA when Kirby inherited a very talented roster.
As a Syracuse fan -- unless you guys are going to pay your players $15mm+ you do not want to fire a coach getting 7ish wins per season. Only the football factories like UGA, Bama, Ohio State can realistically expect more than that. I think your defensive scheme asks your linebackers to do a little too much, especially with no pass rush, but on the whole GT is a well coached team.
Thanks for being a voice of reason 🙏 the team has certainly had some disappointing showings since Dublin, but calling for people’s jobs in a crazy thing to do at this point. Hoping the team can get right over the bye week and come back 2-0 against Duke/Unc
Regarding Christian Leary, rumor has it he wanted to Redshirt and the coaches disagreed. Second, while I continue to believe our O-Line is one of our strengths, both Syracuse and now Louisville seem to have found some keys to defeat their run blocking. That said, by the 4th quarter Buster should have recognized we weren't going to be able to smash mouth our way to a 1 yard first down, as painful as it is to admit it. And the Falcons must not have watched our game as they made the same mistake on Sunday night.
I think reality is catching up to a lot of fans expectations. Defense is still a work in progress. Offense is geared towards the run. We knew this. Other teams know this. What I’m hoping is that Tech can adjust the offense to what the opponents want to give us. We did have more offensive yards than L’ville, so we are moving the ball. Time to fine tune when opportunity presents itself. I’m not disappointed yet, since we can still make a bowl; never thought we’d be in the hunt for the ACC championship. I’m in the, let’s see what changes are developed for the next game.
I think one of the most valuable things Key has brought to this program is the staff and players consistent reaction to respond to adversity. I fully expect we will continue to see that throughout this season. Until they show otherwise, Key still has my full support (barring some ridiculous circumstances)
Wreck I agree 100%. King is the Truth and people are bugging on Key. He has made this program relevant again. Obviously it’s a work in progress and game management can always improve but he has this program steam rolling in the right direction INCLUDING a top 20 recruiting class. Trust in Key!! Finish this year 7-5 and really make some noise next year
45 years I’ve been a die hard Tech fan. My first complete sentence was THWG. I am a Tech fan til I take my last breath. My son is a die hard Jacket fan now. Generational. I live w a bunch of UGAG fans that couldn’t tell you the name of one player on the roster other than Howdy Doody. Haynes is our guy. We played a better team.
Key has done a very good job. He has turned the program around and changed the expectations of the players and fans. Does he make mistakes? Absolutely. IMHO there is no reason to compare him to past coaches. They are gone. Give him a chance and he will shine! King is a very good QB. Has he made mistakes? Yes. Remember, while he has played his position for several seasons, he is still learning. Let's give him a chance. The offense was not the problem at Louisville. Defense was not the problem. Two bad plays made the entire difference. Corrections will be made.
I agree with everything you said. I do think Faulkner needs to make adjustments in the run game though. I don't blame him for us not being able to run up the middle, but it's obvious we can't do it.
Key & his staff are moving GT in the right direction. I’ve been a Tech fan my entire life & my kids are now die hard fans too. Go jackets & get ready for Duke!
I will stand by Key as coach, would love to see things mixed up better in play calling. I truly believe we have strong talent in the secondary, but we have poor execution in defensive coverage. I hope the future games will not allow a QB to pick us apart with yardage.....leading to an easy run in score. I just hope all will start to gel more as the season progresses. Being a Tech fan for 50years has been tough.....but, I will remain a solid supporter ( with my occasional take or opinion on the games). Go Jackets !!! Play fast , play strong !!!
Looking at average wins is not a good indicator. We should be looking at "what was the trajectory of the program?" and "what was the highest moment during the coach's tenure". Trajectory-wise, O'Leary was the only one I can remember that left on a high. For the highest moments, obviously it's Ross, then O'leary, then Johnson; Ross achieved it the quickest, followed by Johnson, then O'leary. Put aside Johnson's offense, I think many people would take a couple of 11 win seasons with a pair of 9 win seasons, mixed in with the average seasons being the rest because he gave us the highs. Key needs to prove he can take this team on a positive trajectory and eventually give us an occasional high.
You are 100% correct about Haynes,,, but when I see him make stupid decisions and NOT ONE coach gets in his face. I'm not concerned about Haynes abilities... I want the coaches to coach. and right now our COACHES are NOT coaching and getting OUT coached. There you go, I slapped myself just for good measure.
We know that King will make some poor decisions, when trying to do too much. The problem is walking the line between too much and just enough gunslinging. He made one (really) bad decision, which led to a defensive score for Louisville. We still could have overcome that mistake, with just a couple of 1 yard gains, for resetting the downs. I saw, at least, one play where we had players standing around and not helping to push the runner, on a 1 yard play. The way to keep King from making a bone headed play, is to take some of the pressure off, by having the other players, step up and carry some of the workload. I would like to see us run 1 yard plays, from under center. We had another short yardage run stuffed, by a player that had time to loop around from the end of the line, to fill the gap, before the runner could get there.
It’s fine that Key was a budget hire. That only becomes a problem when not knowing how to manage second half timeouts starts costing you games. He’s doing fine. The schedule is the brutal variable this year. Should have gotten a bye before now. It is what is. The acc isn’t doing Tech any favors and don’t expect that to ever change. They’re just not legit acc contenders right now. Just another crab in the bucket.
Anyone saying that they need to be fired is on Mars. With that being said the game plan offensively in Cuse/Louisville was just bad and that’s on Key/Buster. There is no way around that it is what it is.
I agree wreck, I get pissed off sometimes but it’s not king or the staff… I think the staff needs seasoning and I think we suffer from less talent than a lot of schools we play. Let key recruit and in 4 years we’ll judge it. We do need more team speed
The offense is not the problem I mean this team on offense has been in pretty much every game so far and if it wasn't for Haynes King I don't think this team would be where they are now. But don't forget that most of the players that are on this team is the players that Geoff Collins recruited. So Key is dealing with players that Collins brought on board. Key has admitted that this team isn't where he wants it to be at the moment but wait until the players that he has recruited starts playing. I mean before Kirby Smart took over Georgia it took that program a couple of years to get to where it is today. So give Key a few more years and he will have this program right up there with the likes of Georgia
I truly believe that Key is right coach for the GT job, and I believe in him. I have extremely high (maybe impossible) expectations for HC Key. I like his OC and DC. That said, the results are not what we want or expect. Key is one hard headed, stubborn SOB. It's his way or no way. That will get you an L quicker than anything. Given enough time, I think Key can learn and adapt, but I don't know how much longer I can stand the dumb preventable Ls. Is Key trying to establish a team culture of being a hard ass tough team? Looks like it, but he doesn't have the player talent for that type of squad. Those boys are Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St.. Bama, UGA , & Clemson. At our player talent level, we have a better chance of being a Ol Miss, Oregon or Washington. I keep telling myself to have patience. This is only year 2 and Key doesn't have "his" players. Plus, I said at the end of last season, 7 wins is a successful season. Tantor has moved the goal posts on HC Key. I need to stick to 7 wins and a nice bowl trip in 2024. I need to see some progress in the process!
Haynes King was the savior in that last game. He made 1 play that resulted in a touchdown for the other team, but he was the reason we got as far as we did in that last game
I bet you we were picked to be 3-2 going into the bye week so please trust the process. Let’s go into this bye week and get some rest, heal and prepare for a victory over Duke and continue to move this thing forward!!
I don’t think Key and Buster should be on the hot seat. But if the trends continue of bringing stubborn things have to be evaluated. We will see if things change, honestly I’m happy to see to fan base expect more though instead of saying you can’t win at tech like we have in the past.
I’ll admit I was one of the guys that put Key=Collins 2.0. I was obviously trolling/mad, but in no way is he anywhere near Collins. With that said, Key and Faulkner need some work. Faulkner a play calling this past game was absolutely horrendous. Nobody can deny that. In fact, it’s been bad all year bc he’s been way too conservative. Our offense has digressed since last year with basically the exact same offense?!? How? That’s called coaching. Do I think they need be fired? No. Do I think they better step it up big time? Absolutely! The clock management, play calling, getting the right people in, calls in to king all need to be better. We look lost!! Now, everything else you said I agree with. Anyone who says king needs to be benched just doesn’t know football. Plain and simple. The Paul Johnson and triple option people are idiots too. I hope our coaches do better and get us back on track but we’ll be lucky to make a bowl. Go jackets!
Losing to Louisville as we did was not bad, they are a good team. Syracuse...not sure. If we play out like we should I see four more wins. Key is the right guy for the job. As for the offense, I think we just need a more diverse running game. And on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1.....can we get King under center and sneak. That way the D gets no penetration.
Don’t think anyone is asking for 9-10 wins a year. But so far in Keys tenure we are a 6 win team and we look worse than last year. Our schedule is brutal but getting 7.5 wins is minimum success. We aren’t a national team and I don’t expect to be that. But asking for 7-8 wins should be reasonable. And this team isn’t going to do it. Watching Key mismanage the clock, not veto calls, and frankly not getting the guys prepared is what makes me and others upset. I’ve always said next year is truly our year with the schedule we have. If we do badly or stay at 6 wins then……. yeah I’ll be negative way more loudly
It's plain and simple. Tech got out-coached in back-to-back ACC games. Both teams stacked the box, and our playcalling failed. They don't need to go they just need to coach better. Tech runs the triple option, but it is now in the pistol! JS!
You aren't telling the whole story on these coaches. Oleary and Ross inherited bad washed up programs that had to be rebuilt from scratch. They trended up to 9 to 10 win seasons then left for other jobs. Gailey inherited a good program and was captain average at best the whole time he was there. The problem with this team that people are pissed about. They aren't living up to there potential.
@wrecktalk he inherited decent talent and got more from the portal which was available to previous coaches. I don't want him fired or buster or anyone. I just think stubborn coaching lost him this game and I feel like we are a better team than Louisville and Syracuse. I fear that if he doesn't right the ship soon we will get in a long funk like what happened some years under CPJ.
I swear GT fans are so bipolar. We get a little success and go off the rails, and a bad game means everything is over and we should fire everyone. There has to be a reasonable middle
Nobody owes us for the L's we took under Collins. We go out there and earn every yard. The teams we play are getting better. The fact that we have THREE wins this season is a giant leap forward. The problems we have, we can fix. Go Jackets.
I agree with most of what you saying, however, you guys are deeming Key a Saban type coach, yes he has done a lot of great thungs for the program, but i think alot of people dont realize Collins so bad you can go win one more game than him. There are alot of things wrong in the system, we do nèed a pass rush, you bring these one and done transfer kids and your recruits never develope. The offense stalls alot and the defense is on the field, corners get most of the blame when the soft zone is the issue and the LB inability to cover and the Safeties are nowhere in support coverage. Thank you i think you do a great job.
lol Pretty sure those fans who are saying nonsense like fire Key and the staff do hard hard drugs and are probably bulldog fans (yes, they are that stupid). We are not only heading in the right direction but it feels like we have a chance to have something special in the ATL again. Once the defense is fixed, we will be super competitive. We are finally, thanks to Key and staff, getting quality players. Also, Haynes King is a God send. He is our offense right now lol Love the receiving core too. I just don’t understand why we regressed on the line and in the run game….
Get a grip... Lville is just a better team. The line was 10 points and they were at home. Give the team time to settle. If by end of season GT has a losing record then put the heat on coaches and players.
I think they need to mix in some other players , not get rid of the starters. Just see what you got also throw the ball down the middle , good teams are keying in on that play with the quarterback
Look, I get your reasoning on Faulkner, but his 3rd and 4th and short play calls were awful. Both of our losses could have been wins with better play calling from buster
I don't think you're off base, but this sounds a lot different from your rant in your car on Saturday. That sounded like what you're now calling people out for.
How long since we beat UGAG? I expect Key to break the spell and why not start a streak of his own? Here's the plan going forward, also Cdogg, note Notre Dame victory (go watch replay it will encourage you): O'Leary's 1998 team went 10-2, defeating its archrival the University of Georgia for the first time in 7 years, as well as the University of Notre Dame in the 1999 Gator Bowl. For the remainder of his tenure at Georgia Tech, the team went to a bowl game every season.
It’s frustrating because you can see clear improvement in our team, but the teams we’re playing have also improved a lot and at faster rates. But we have to remember that we are, in fact, improving from the lowest of the low

Ross and O’Leary both took over disasters so the first couple rebuild years need asterisks. O’Leary averaged 8 wins after he brought the program back.
Stop letting QB's stand there on 3rd and long and we stop more drives.
The number of bad takes out of GT fans is extremely high, and they are the most vocal/chatty.
Y’all that was on me for talking bad abt Brent key
Look, I get your reasoning on Faulkner, but his 3rd and 4th and short play calls were awful. Both of our losses could have been wins with better play calling from buster
I don't think you're off base, but this sounds a lot different from your rant in your car on Saturday. That sounded like what you're now calling people out for.
I was critical of some coaching decisions and prep I was not saying they suck or should be fired
Key had a big ego.
O'Leary beat the trembling chihuahuas three years in a row
Give Key time, he'll get it done...I expect his trajectory to mimic GOL, AND he will FIND a way to shut the mutts up, maybe this year.
How long since we beat UGAG?
I expect Key to break the spell and why not start a streak of his own?
Here's the plan going forward, also Cdogg, note Notre Dame victory (go watch replay it will encourage you):
O'Leary's 1998 team went 10-2, defeating its archrival the University of Georgia for the first time in 7 years, as well as the University of Notre Dame in the 1999 Gator Bowl. For the remainder of his tenure at Georgia Tech, the team went to a bowl game every season.
key is fine but get buster tf out
If that team shows up. They don’t beat even duke
The triple option set Tech back at least a decade
100%
back from what?
Lol
thank you. haynes king is the man imo
