1916 is nowhere near the worst Motorhead album. RAMONES, Dreamtime/ Nightmare, No voices, I'm so bad and Shut you down are all quality Motorhead songs. No way it belongs in the conversation with March.

1916 is awesome. The lyrics are worth the price alone. Their worst album is anything after Sacrifice, or March Or Die. I'm still sick over their cover of Cat Scratch Fever.
Have to agree re: March Or Die. It sounds like the band were half-heartedly throwing their dusty hat into the corporate rock ring. But 1916? To me it's one of the liveliest, most inspired Motorhead albums in the catalog. It covers every corner of the Motorhead milieu: amphetamine speed rock/punk ("I'm So Bad...", "RAMONES"), tuneful hi-decibel anthems ("No Voices..."), lurching psych-rock ("Nightmare, The Dreamtime"), straight boogie-infected r 'n' r ("Angel City") and adds a few more, like the grimy waltz-time dirge "Love Me Forever" and the absolutely unique title track, which reveals a vulnerability and sincerity from Lemmy not glimpsed before. Also have to say the lyrics are top-notch, from the poignancy of the aforementioned "1916" to the hilarious braggadocio of "I'm So Bad" (to quote, "Black-hearted to the bone, Older than The Rolling Stones, Been to heaven, been to hell, Bought the farm, and I won't sell!").
Yep, getting a lot of votes for March as worst, but some of the songs you mentioned for 1916 are the same reasons others (like Martin) don't like it! but music like beauty is in the eyes and ears of the beholder. Thanks for the comment!

And of course if you remove like 3 songs from an album thats like 25% usually, but ya we've pretty much been dragged over the coals over the 1916 comments!
In Lemmy's autobiography there were three albums that stood out as disasters behind the scenes. Another Perfect day for the drama with Brian Robertson, Orgasmatron for a producer gone rogue and this album due to label interference. The other two have enough redeeming qualities that saved them, but March or Die stands out for when things didn't work they really stand out. Lemmy's frustration shows. I will stand up for You Better Run, but only because I saw Motorhead play an impromptu version of it under strange circumstances. Sad there's no recording of this performance because it was insane how good it was.
@Jimmy Very cool you got too see that tour! They came to Portland on that tour but I didn't see it. Orgasmatron is one of my favorites too but if you haven't read Lemmy's (excellent) autobiography you should. His stories about that album are crazy. The producer had his own ideas and done a lot of stuff Lemmy didn't want in. He said he had to go in at the last minute to remix it and remove a lot of extraneous crap the producer had put in. I always noticed some unusual cuts on there so his stories explained a lot.
I can understand why people don't like March Or Die, I personally really like it. It also has my favorite Motorhead song of all time BAD RELIGION. KILLER song.
I’m a huge Motörhead fan. 1916 is one of their very best and most successful albums. It should have been even more successful. I must be hearing something different. To me the worst ones are the debut which just isn’t that good. Why wasn’t that considered? Sacrifice, I don’t like nu metal and Kiss Of Death which is a little boring. Hammered and Snakebite Love are only slightly better but something is just missing on them. So they’re my bottom 5. March Or Die isn’t as strong as 1916 but it’s underrated. Just my opinion. I think Martin actually mentioned the debut as one of his lesser liked albums in the discussion and even suggested it might be sacrilege to some Motorhead fans but he stated that he actually likes some of the more recent albums and the more recent era better than the early stuff in a lot of ways. I think this definitely was the right pick. I don't hate the album, it's just not one I revisit. I find the album sort of dull, and it reminds me of the contributions that Lemmy made to Ozzy's "No More Tears" album. It all felt in the same vein.

Lemmy's wrong with his 'ropey' comment. There's no way the Mikkey Dee era could touch the classic line-up's feeling of chaos, danger and downright fun. Lemmy replaced all that with a consistent, professional band, but they definitely became more domesticated.

Snake Bite Love is my favorite, usually slagged as the worst. Of course it was followed by (IMO) the two worst, We Are Motorhead and Hammered. March or Die has always been great to me.
The latter day albums after Wurzel left don't sound like Motörhead to me. There aren't enough cool riffs, it's too much of the chunky chords and generic metal distortion. Snake Bite Love would be my least favorite Motorhead album.
Just listened to it again, it’s surprisingly good. Sacrifice is worse I think
Snake Bite Love is my favorite, usually slagged as the worst. Of course it was followed by (IMO) the two worst, We Are Motorhead and Hammered. March or Die has always been great to me.
I think Snake Bite Love is underrated. I like the diversity of it. However, We Are Motorhead is a favorite of mine.
Rocknroll is their worst
Its weak
The latter day albums after Wurzel left don't sound like Motörhead to me. There aren't enough cool riffs, it's too much of the chunky chords and generic metal distortion. And there's no rock and roll swing. Phil and Mikkey wrote good metal records but they aren't great Motörhead records. That said, I really enjoy Motorizer and a few others.
6 out of 10?!?! 3 at the most!
(And for all those Misophonia suffers... How many times does a man need to smack his effing lips?)
Aftershock was worse i think
you might be right!
