Great point about how being vague can come across as showing inexperience. Loved the sass at the beginning of the video too!

You should hear me say bag and egg! Even weirder

I am working on this transition right now! It would be very helpful if you included a link to a mock converted CV to resume!

I can do that! I tried originally but don’t think the links work now

Thanks so much for this, Cheryl, it's incredibly useful. Also, your point about feeling like you were "winning someone else's race" as an academic in your other video resonated so much with me!

I’m so happy you found it useful - but also hope you found something that works better for you!

Im thinking in leaving academia; reasons? I love science but the academic job market does not seem very promising in several continents... However, academia is almost the only thing I have done: BSc in Biology, MSc in Behavioral ecology; a position as Research assistant in cancer immunology, a position as Research associate in a neroethology lab, a 2nd MSc in neuroethology, a position as data scientist for a NGO and PhD in Neuroethology; that is... basically several years of experience teaching (cell biology, biopsychology, and behavioral basis of human/animal behavior), data scientist (Experimental design, advanced stats, SPSS, R, Python) finding funding, applying for it, talking in public (my classes, conferences) etc... and of course writing grants, essays, scientific papers... 4-5 first author publications... is there a chance for someone with my background be considered outside academia? I would appreciate any comment.

Hello sorry I’m just seeing this now. RUclips was taken over by my job! Yes absolutely 100% your skills will be highly sought after in industry. There are lots of labs and research roles outside traditional academia. Companies have labs, they fund research, and they need highly qualified scientists. You’ll also have transferable skills and it sounds like you could do anything in data science.
