I’m Catholic and I visited a Lutheran church the other day. I was so amazed by the beauty of the mass. Then I watched this and when I saw the incense come out I cheered like watching my team win the World Series.
The Divine Service is certainly beautiful! It is not extremely common for Lutheran churches here in the United States to use incense, although a few do. Incense, if I had the option, always gets my vote! =)
Incense is always a beautiful thing when added to the Divine Service! Unfortunately, at least in the majority of the LCMS congregations I have been to, many dislike the idea of its use =(
I was blessed to grow up in the Lutheran faith. In Canada's capital, our church, Mount Calvary was in the Missouri Synod. Our pastor, Jon Keekley was a kind, caring and generous pastor who never made feel as though we were sinners... but we were God's children. I love the traditions of our church... I love the traditional serves and the feeling of family. I loved the traditional hymns. This was lovely.
Remembering our identity in Christ, where we were claimed as God's own precious children in the waters of Holy Baptism, is always a great comfort and joy to the Christian! The historic chorales of the Lutheran Church are certainly a blessing as they are not only a delight to sing but also teach the faith. Soli Deo Gloria! =)
Beautiful! We also sang the sanctus from DS 3 this morning. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify your glorious name, evermore praising you and saying…
I joined a small Lutheran church everyone was kind and welcoming even the director of the church. I made a suggestion on building a fountain they told me its a good idea and we should consider making that a project. I also got a little coffee mug i honestly felt like crying. The kindness and generosity. So in return im creating a nice painting and giving it as a token of my appreciation and gratitude. The director was very happy.
I am so glad that you have found a Lutheran church to attend and that everyone there has been so welcoming to you; God is good! =) Sometimes, it is the little things, such as the coffee mug the congregation gave you to assist in welcoming you in Christ's name, that can bring the greatest joy. I am sure you will touch the congregation's hearts when they receive your painting as a token of your appreciation and gratitude to them. Your gracious, God-given, kind-hearted nature is truly a gift to the church and to God's kingdom! Joy in Jesus! Jeff
The Richard and Fowkes organ at FLC Boston always delivers; plus, the zimbelstern on it is fantastic!! 😊 I was the organist for services today... Many videos coming 😜 haha
Loving the atmosphere in this comment section! I’d also like to gently encourage everyone to take the body of Our Lord on the tongue and receive His blood from the common cup. May God bless you! ✝️
I miss this order of service so much !! My church does the other one..if i could find a lutheran church with this order of service i would run to it !!!
Divine Service Setting III in the Lutheran Service Book, historically known as the Common Service, is a true treasure of the Church. It is my prayer that you will find a Lutheran congregation that uses this setting =) As I am sure it does for you also, it always brings me great joy when we use Setting III for Divine Service; the liturgy and musical setting is absolutely beautiful!
The liturgy of the church is such a beautiful God-honoring tradition! Here in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, it would be wonderful if all of our congregations conducted the Divine Service as First Lutheran Church of Boston =) Soli Deo Gloria!
You should certainly stop by one of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations for services one of these weeks; it is personally, for me, always a joy and delight to welcome guests into our midst on Sunday to hear of Christ crucified for them! =)
I am attending my first LCMS church service on Sunday and really hope it is traditional like this. I understand not all are? It will be the determining factor for me on whether I pursue Lutheranism or continue my inquiry into Orthodox church. which is an hour away for me and harder to attend.
I recorded this RUclips video while I was serving as organist for Divine Service at First Lutheran Church of Boston; it is definitely a congregation you should visit if you are ever in Massachusetts! I highly recommend this website my family and I use when looking for an LCMS church if we are away from home: www.lutheranliturgy.org/. I cannot recommend it highly enough; I have had phenomenal success using it to locate a liturgical LCMS congregation! Another great way to see how the Divine Service is conducted before visiting is to see if they have a Facebook or RUclips page with their live services on it. Wherever you end up attending this Sunday, let me be the first to officially welcome you to an LCMS congregation in Jesus' name! =)
The organ builders Richard and Fowkes are the best! 😊 This is the Sanctus from Divine Service setting three in the Lutheran Service Book; I do not believe there is a specific tune name assigned. I'll be sharing more over the next few days as I process the recordings from when I played for services today at First Lutheran Church of Boston 🙂
The sanctuary wasn't empty...just the front section of pews; most congregants were towards the back half of the sanctuary, which was not captured due to where I placed the camera. It certainly does appear as you describe, though, because of camera placement =)

What liturgy does traditional Lutherans use?

how was this recorded? Organ direct feed with congregational microphones or just microphones in the congregation?
I believe I used microphones in the wrap-around right extension of the choir loft 😊
