Wow she spoke very fast... you have to watch that twice over to actually get everything. China will make significant progress in AI/ML because the chinese don't mind giving up their privacy at all which means more free flowing data to feed, train and iterate on their AI/ML models.
Mary, have you thought about putting some of your graphs on semi-log plots? You often display exponential growth across linear scales, which make them harder to understand.
The rapid growth of Tencent and Alibaba is impressive, but almost all of that has come domestically; it's hard to see how they will grow past that, once they run out of Chinese citizens to add to the services.
Yeah, that's fair. I guess the answer to the question is, they'll likely just try to acquire themselves to legitimacy abroad. Similar to Lenovo buying IBM computers and Motorola.
Aliyun is now the 4th largest public cloud in the world (with many regions outside of China). Xiaomi is building stores in France, Spain, Germany, etc. As more and more Chinese unicorns list in Hong Kong and New York, they will become more and more global.
15 inch I guess, I thought only me noticed that, it's Lenovo Thinkpad product she use for presentation, well perhaps it's from committee that provided it, but yeah, it shows how Chinese product used widely in the world.
Playing devil's advocate, as disruptive as blockchain may turn out to be and cryptocurrencies have been to the financial sector, I don't see them as "Internet trends", so much as "tech trends" and "financial markets trends". That, I think, falls in line with advancements in AI, for example, which are significant but not pertinent to a report about how people use and build businesses on the Internet. Just because traditionally consumer tech-focused VC's are turning to blockchain technologies doesn't make them fall under the same category.
While I agree with some of your points, because the space is really in its infancy, I think a look at how blockchain/cryptocurrecies are taking shape to disrupt the traditional display ad businesses is worthwhile. If this disruption is possible, people will not be able to stop talking about it.
this needs more views. like >20x. she's a legend

Utterly brilliant... 33.15 mins very well spent.
What Sir Martin Sorrel was saying about Amazon is ringing more and more true. Great presentation as always. Thank you Mary and the whole team!

i get alibaba how is Tencent domestic?? they're one of the biggest gaming holding companies in the world.
Yeah, that's fair. I guess the answer to the question is, they'll likely just try to acquire themselves to legitimacy abroad. Similar to Lenovo buying IBM computers and Motorola.
Maybe they don't need overseas users after all with such a huge domestic market.

dont think any chinese company will have an easy growth story in the US with Trump in office
anyone knows the screen size of her thinkpad laptop?

Ahmad Arib Alfarisy I was wondering why she chose a 4:3 display for her presentation since her laptop screen was perhaps 16:9
Reading along with it now!
The exclusion of blockchain technologies and the current state of the crypto-currency markets from the report makes little sense to me.
