I am an audio engineering student. First of all, it is very obvious that sufficient pitch correction was used on this recording. Second of all, while pitch correcting software didn't exist during the anolog days, producers had other methods of covering up vocal mistakes like double vocals, a shit ton of reverb, raising the levels of the rhythm section so the vocals stood out less, and over compressing so not as many dynamics were noticeable.
