I learnt Horse riding when I was 7 ….on a Haflinger farm in Germany … it was a small Breeder offering Holiday weeks for children …my Favorite was one of the Breeding Stallions, very dark 16 years old…but my Teacher was a mare named Stella, 7 Years old also …when visited this place again in 2008…it was was turned into a boarding stable…one of the last remaining Haflingers there was…Stella, 35 Years old and still in a god shape…and her daughter, at my time there here filly by foot…enjoyed retirement…I really stood in front of that stall and cried…I spent some of the best Summer weeks at that place as a child…I will always love Haflingers❤
I grew up in Germany and I have always loved Haflingers. Now that I am “old” I finally have my own Haflinger (Gelding Yearling) 🥰 and yes he is a character 😆 and very intelligent.
I think everyone who’s ridden horses in Germany for a substantial amount of time has come across a Haflinger. They are super sweet most of the time and good fun.
Will somebody tell South Tyrol that not EVERY SINGLE view HAS to be majestic and awe inspiring? Like, give our poor little hearts some time to recover now and then 😂😂❤
I had a Haflinger too, for 17 years. He was of the old type, quite heavy and very gentle. I miss him so much and I've never had such a bond with any other horse.
My app was getting on in age and had arthritis, I was older, but not ready to quit riding. My farrier told me of a haflinger for sale - a perfect horse for you he said. What a little beauty. She is about the smaller type, but can outwalk a tennessee walking horse on the trails. Trot silky smooth, She is a wonderful horse, we are both retired now, I am 84 rode her until my hip gave way at age 82. She is now 29. She is a real buddy, hence her name is Buddy AKA Miz Buddy the Diva. She is intelligent and friendly, I love her and we had many fun years together. Rocky, hilly terrain is nothing to her. Water crossing just fine. She is a wonderful example of the breed.
Haflingers were one of the first two breeds I knew as a child, simply because not even 100 meters from my house there was a private pasture with a Haflinger and a Grey gelding of some sort on it. Both very kind and curious horses for any visitors to the area and they certainly gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling whenever I saw them. Thanks for showing off these pretty horses and where they live!
I loooooveee Haflingers !!!! They are stubborns ! Sweet ! Funny ! They look for contact with humans, they can be fast, they can be slow, they adapt a lot and they are muscle beasts.
I've ridden a lot of Haflingers when I was a child and... they are something !!!😆Sweet as it can be but damn, they have their personalities. You just can never forget them 💗
My heart just burst! A Haflinger was the first and only horse I ever owned. And I will never forget him. Haflingers have a special personality. If you get them on your side they will do anything for you, absolutely anything. As long as they get food 😂 I just love them and also rode them in the Austrian mountains. Absolutely special, this beautiful video was like traveling back in time. Thank you so much for that! And the gelding for sure is stunning. I am sure he was snagged up already by a new owner 😅 That flying golden mane 🥹 And Northern Italy is just so beautiful!
Thank you for featuring the Haflinger. It brought back some good and bad memories of my Haflinger Yogie. He had shorter and thicker legs then the ones you showed. He also was much darker copper color with flaxen mane and tail. He was 13 hands high with huge feet. He had no white on him and he had a more of a pony head with dark muzzle. He also over stride with his hind legs which caused him to hit his back feet with the front ones. We sold him and little star to some people who did not take care of them. I went over to check on them and when I got there Yogie Bloated and the owner left me without giving me a knife which I could have relieved the pressure. Yogie died a horrible death which I was helpless to do anything. I never got over it and I hope you or anyone else ever have to experience that. I wish you could see what this horse could pull for a load and this is what he really loved to do; he was good at pulling your leg also!
Haflinger horses are a very common breed on riding schools in the Netherlands! I currently take care of a 15-year old haflinger mare. Haflingers are really funny horses, they have a great sense of humour and they're just so friendly and intelligent! In my life, the haflingers I came across all knew how to open doors, it's as if it's a breed specific trick of somesorts. Funny but a bit frustrating at times haha
I truly enjoyed your experience with this breed. It looked like so much fun. The inn, the people, the food, the little dog, your horse, the ride through the beautiful countryside and all the horses. It was such an immersive, joyful experience that I felt like I was there with you. I love Haflingers but never had the opportunity to ride one when I was actively riding. Thefe was a Haflinger cross at one of the stables where I took lessons. He was a sturdy little golden guy beloved by everyone.
What a beautiful experience. Haflingers are a fantastic breed. I used to live in Derbyshire, UK, about 10 miles from Chatsworth Estate, where the then Duchess of Devonshire, breed Haflingers.
over here we have a saying regarding haflingers that goes "a prince from the front, a farmer's behind" because of their elegant faces and strong hind quarters. they are very beloved, and so versatile! a local breeder even uses them for their milk!
I was familiar with the term haflinger, but didn’t know very much about them. What a versatile, handsome breed. Thank you for this lovely vlog. I have enjoyed each and every one of them.
What a wonderful place to ride. I did a beach ride on one, he was a cheeky chappie. I let him trot out, the others were cantering he kept up with a super fast extended trot, very impressive, and smooth. Happy memories.
Very nice! Glad to see you do this ride! My horse is a Haflinger, from Austria. Her name? Mona-Lise! I couldn't ask for a better riding companion than Mona. For those who have not yet experienced this breed, I would certainly encourage you to look into them!
This was by far my favorite of yours! I have a haflinger so they hold a close place in my heart ♥️ I love how everywhere you guys rode there was haflingers! Or how the restaurant had them near! Looks like an awesome experience
I grew up with many a Haflinger, in Germany. You didn't mention that the Austrian Army has a Haflinger unit! My sister is a freelance journalist who often writes for the Bundesheer. They are used as pack horses and to access areas where no one can easily go. Great video about this old and trusted breed.
I've been waiting for you to ride the Haflinger! I'm part-boarding a senior mare, with TONS of personality. Lol! She's short and thick, unlike the one you were riding. She's like a naughty little pony, and I adore her. Very clever breed as well. Beautiful scenery! Looked like a wonderful ride! ✌️
Absolutely stunning countryside and yes, love the breed! Had one in our therapy program. He was a great escape artist and I swear he would look at me and laugh!
At age 6 I purchased my first Haflinger gelding age 15. I've owned him for 4 yrs. now. Mostly we do ground work and tricks as I am not up to riding, but take great joy in interacting with him each day.
I think I heard of Haflingers on Yvonne's channel Friesian Horses although it could have been another horsie channel. The scenery in this video is awesome. I've seen the mountains north of Turino but the Dolomites area looks wonderful. I love your travel with horses and especially liked the Icelandic ponies which I'd love to see. Thank you.
What a thoroughly brilliant experience! I think you should consider giving that young gelding a home at your place. You look great and he looks happy. 💜
What I love most is their temperament and willingness to please. They love having fun, but need to have a job to do. If they get bored, they often find something to do that gets them into trouble. They are truly a all around mount. Sadly, I’m down to my last girl, she’s 24 years young. Another good thing about this breed is they tend to have long lives. I’m hoping my girl is one of the lucky ones to see 45 years.
I'm a volunteer at a horse rescue in Minnesota, U.S.A. We have many horses and a Haflinger. He's blind, but very sweet. His age is 31 years old!! Thank you for sharing the video of the Haflinger and the gorgeous countryside!
I love how they are big but short They remind me of a Belgium but miniature which is pretty funny :) My uncle had Belgiums so I'm drawn to how big they are but very sweet
You are so close to where I live. i live right behind those Dolomites in East-Tyrol Austria. We have 2 local breeds, The Haflinger and the Noriker. The Norikers are also extremely sweet and impressive. Wondering where you are off next. So many great breeds in the region. Some very old and rare breeds too.
I loved riding through the ears and tagging along on your gorgeous sunny day in the mountains. And, what fun to ride into a restaurant, hitch the horses and have a delicious lunch! Beats riding through McDonald's drive through, haha! [Joking]. They really are all around the world... often see them at shows in BC. Thanks so much for this most enjoyable outing aboard the Haflinger horses! x
My first horse was a haflinger. I’ve had Marco for 25 years, till he passend away 6 years ago. Not easy personality but save horse. He loved to eat, his last night I gave him a lot of strawberries, miss him
I raised a Haflinger orphan foal. Gentled him in the old ways my father taught he was from France and a WWII veteran. If I ever have the chance of a horse companion again it will be a Haflinger. Gorgeous, smart, gentle breed. Hardy stout ride drive they can do it all.
I cried from watching this, as this made miss my first horse who was a Haflinger. Despite him stepping on my foot and it turned out bruised and blue, I already knew he was my horse, and viewing this ride made me think of him
My halflinger is definitely showing its a horse wirh a big personality and expressive character. Love him and this breed. Thank you for showing. My dream travel destination there!! 😍
I’m so glad your channel popped up on my home page! My favorite breed of horse! Although I do not ride, my daughter’s entire life has been around animals, especially horses and dogs. She is also an artist and painted a Haflinger named Amadeus for me many years ago. We also visited a Haflinger ranch in Florida. I lived in the mountains of NC and our neighbor in the valley had Haflingers…..So, I have many lovely memories of this breed. This video cheered my heart. Thank you! And if I recall correctly, there is a Haflinger in the background in one of the scenes from “The Sound of Music” ❤
My husband and I first saw a team of Haflingers up close at the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They were pulling a chariot around the parking lot which was so fun to watch! Thank you for such a lovely video with gorgeous scenery and wonderful horses. We really enjoyed watching 💜
Thank you for a really well-made video! I have actually been at the Unterwirt stables in Jenesien about six years ago during a holiday. They were staging the yearly presentation of foals and youngsters to the judges that day. My - local - friends and I really enjoyed that morning! So many incredibly beautiful horses to see! And the incredible Rosengarten crags in the background! This breed IS stunning and yes, very recognisable anywhere. They bred some Arab blood into the heavier farm horses decades ago, but then had to stop, as strength and the Arab's nerves are not a good combination, especially in the mountains! But it gave them gorgeous heads!... Unfortunately we couldn't stay all day, because my friends had booked a table for lunch almost an hour's drive away along that windy road along the Plateau. The South Tyrolean cuisine is usually very high quality! As one could also see in your hotel with the breakfast menu... After lunch, my friends drove me on still to the Hafling, where this breed originates, and we saw all the riding horses of a big stable there, the Sulfner, also with hotel, already out on a pasture. So, more of them to see for us! What a day that was!...
❤❤ loved this! I fell in love with Haflingers while on holiday in northern Italy over 10 years ago and last year got my very own Haflinger gelding 🥰🥰 he is so intelligent, and stubborn, and mischievous but also so loving and trusting. Found my heart horse in a Haffy ❤
Die Haflinger sind wunderbare Tiere. Sie sind kraftvoll, temperamentvoll und sehen so toll aus. Als Jugendliche habe ich einige Ausritte mit ihnen gehabt. ❤
I just discovered your channel:what a happy find ! As a former equestrian and lover of Haflingers and South Tirol I thoroughly enjoyed your video. One suggestion, though. It would be nice to know more about the origin of the breed - the way I know it is that it is a cross between Arabian stallions and local farmhouse mares, which also explains the beautiful golden colour. My own Arabian was the exact same shade. Greetings from Italy!
My first own horse was a Haflinger mare born and grown up in South Tyrole. I rode her through the Appenine Mountains in Italy. She was intelligent, strong and kind hearted. I had been riding as a child but no experience for many years. She was my teacher and carried me and later also my children safely everywhere.
I went to a riding camp two summers when I was around 12-13 years old, and they had a lot of haflingers! I had a really sweet and gentle haflinger mare my first year, and the second year I had another mare who were a little smaller but sturdier and a bit more forward thinking. They were both great for me at the time! I've also met a few others later in life. One was a riding school pony, he was a decent jumper but he was really nasty in the stable and took every chance he got to escape 😅 Another, privately owned, was also a runner. I had my own horses at the same stable, and many were the times where I helped catch the little golden pony! Finally, I know of a few haflingers that's been competing at quite high levels in dressage, showjumping and eventing! They're really versatile!
That was a ride into my teens, 45 years ago on holiday in Germany, Dillenburg, riding haflingers in the hills, that were bred by the owner of the campingsite. Lovely.
This is a breed that I absolutely love. I've met a few individuals, but sadly I have never ridden one. It is a goal though to be able to go out hacking on a haflinger one day.
Love this breed. Besides being beautiful they have wonderful dispositions and are very athletic. I see them more and more at our dressage shows and they do very well. When they show up they always draw a crowd. I would love to own one of these guys. Thanks for featuring them. Your videos are great and we get to learn a little bit more about each breed.
What a breathtaking video!!! Between the gorgeous horses and scenery, and the little doggie who tried so hard, I was completely captivated by this stunning video!!!
Alyssa you are inspiring! Your love and enjoyment of horses and riding is a constant and with no fear. You really show how it should be done - riding at its best! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us ❤
Yes, local Amish here in PA, USA, have used a few Haflingers to pull their buggies/ carriages. Also a few have been used at a nearby therapeutic riding center ❤.
The four things Haflingers can't do; Be dumb Be dull Metabolize sugar well Stay thin. They CAN figure out how to open gates, escape stalls, break into feed rooms, convince you they're psychic, travel long distances efficiently, carry heavier riders very comfortably, and do all the disciplines mentioned. Mine has lovely gaits and I think he will grow up to do well with dressage (if he doesn't get bored), jumping, trail riding and driving. At less than a year old he really wants a JOB and loves learning and having something to do. I am completely relearning how to train baby horses because he is so incredibly smart and hates being disciplined. Love this video!! But I do wish it mentioned the 7 stallions in the US and the different lines here. I realize your videos probably have a very worldly audience, but I did miss hearing about that. Looking forward to your next video!
The Haflinger breed was recommended to us because it is such a versatile breed. Our boy, whose name is Avelignese (or Avel for short), rides English and Western, drives, and jumps. He's not a fan of western games though! He's a love, and while he can be stubborn, we would not trade him for anything!
Of course i know those blondies 😅 but i did'nt knew they come from Tirol. In west europe there are many of them, but i think they are mosly wider than those you were riding. They're loved by many people because they're sweet and calm. But i prefer sporthorses, although they're beautiful. In the netherlands are also haflinger breeding stables witch i could see on RUclips, even one in friesland with also premium horses for their beauty. I thought you forgot to visit them, but finaly they're here. But you can visit many more diferent breeds, because there are about 300 diferent breeds😅

First time hearing about or seeing Haflinger horses. Very nice looking! Said this one for sale. How much are they asking??
@@JuliaFloyd-t5c Haflinger can be as cheap as 1.500, all depends on the level of training and bloodline. Most i've seen cost 5 - 7k.
I grew up in Germany and I have always loved Haflingers. Now that I am “old” I finally have my own Haflinger (Gelding Yearling) 🥰 and yes he is a character 😆 and very intelligent.

🤣
I was thinking the same thing!
Exactly LOL!!!😂🥰😂😍😂🤩
I've had a haflinger for 25 years. He passed away at the age of 28. Wonderfull and very sweet horse. Still miss him
I had a Haflinger too, for 17 years.
The filming is perfect to me, The scenery and horses are breath taking 😮
The Haflingers are beautiful. That ride looked so awesome, the scenery was beautiful
The Sud Tyrol is so picturesque and with Haflingers and the little pup a real joy. Great video. 😊🐎
I loooooveee Haflingers !!!! They are stubborns ! Sweet ! Funny ! They look for contact with humans, they can be fast, they can be slow, they adapt a lot and they are muscle beasts.
Those blondies are true characters ❤
I've ridden a lot of Haflingers when I was a child and... they are something !!!😆Sweet as it can be but damn, they have their personalities. You just can never forget them 💗

I ride this breed at my current therapeutic horseback riding stable and absolutely love them! I love their personalities.
probably your prettiest video ever! thank you!
What I love most about them is their intelligence and honest character. They have a strong will but are always willing to work with you :)

Wow!! Look at those flowing manes!! 😫 This looks like an incredible experience.
We have several in our therapeutic riding center. They are full of personality yet rock solid for riders and carriage drivers. ❤
Love Haflingers! Looks like that little dog followed you all the way on the trail ride. So cute
Me too! :) He's such a great little pup and I was impressed with his stamina!
What a lovely setting and horses. They know they belong there.

Beautiful horses!
Thanks for watching! :)
It' another "WOW"from me on your adventure , the horses are beautiful and the scenery " Magical". Best wishes from the U/K.
The one I've ridden for 9 years has the smoothest trot, like glass. I call him "my Cadillac."
Wonderful! This was like a mini vacation! I love the Haflinger breed. This was a special treat. Thank you for sharing!
I had my very first riding lessons on a haflinger called Bummy. She was the sweetest horse ever.

The barn where I ride have several halflingers they are a ton of fun to ride. We do dressage.
Absolutely stunning countryside and yes, love the breed! Had one in our therapy program. He was a great escape artist and I swear he would look at me and laugh!
I visited South Tyrol for a music festival. This brings back memories, and I had no idea this breed came from there!
Ahh, never been to the Alps before but this makes me really really want to go ❤
halflingers are beautiful. maybe one day you'll make it to the far away province of quebec and the underappreciated cheval canadien.
At age 6 I purchased my first Haflinger gelding age 15. I've owned him for 4 yrs. now. Mostly we do ground work and tricks as I am not up to riding, but take great joy in interacting with him each day.

what a nice breed...strong/calm.

Die Haflinger sind wunderbare Tiere. Sie sind kraftvoll, temperamentvoll und sehen so toll aus. Als Jugendliche habe ich einige Ausritte mit ihnen gehabt. ❤
They are so beautiful. You should come to south Africa next for the boerperd, besoeto pony and SA warmblood
Thanks for watching! I am really looking forward to filming in South Africa!
Oh Wow, they are my favourite, what a beautiful day out and lunch spot, just so magickal. Thankyou.
Thanks for watching! :)
what a lovely ride - lucky you Alissa.
Beautiful, placid breed so pretty & what a gorgeous location.
One of my favourite horse breeds ever❤❤❤
That was a ride into my teens, 45 years ago on holiday in Germany, Dillenburg, riding haflingers in the hills, that were bred by the owner of the campingsite. Lovely.
Watching this brings back memories of my Haflinger. Thanks for this. Beautiful scenery.
Just love your videos!! Thank you!
This is a breed that I absolutely love. I've met a few individuals, but sadly I have never ridden one. It is a goal though to be able to go out hacking on a haflinger one day.
This has got to be the BEST job EVER!!!!!!
Another great and interesting vid and teaching me yet again !!!!
❤️🐴❤️
What a beautiful ride. And stunning horses. ❤
That looks like paradise
Love this breed. Besides being beautiful they have wonderful dispositions and are very athletic. I see them more and more at our dressage shows and they do very well. When they show up they always draw a crowd. I would love to own one of these guys. Thanks for featuring them. Your videos are great and we get to learn a little bit more about each breed.
What a breathtaking video!!! Between the gorgeous horses and scenery, and the little doggie who tried so hard, I was completely captivated by this stunning video!!!
I visited the Italian alps, very nice place and those horses look so heavenly..
Alyssa you are inspiring! Your love and enjoyment of horses and riding is a constant and with no fear. You really show how it should be done - riding at its best! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us ❤
Beautiful hirses and location! I used to dream of such a horse !
I love this breed so much! Such a special breed once you get a bond with them! My girl will always be my heart horse❤
Yes, local Amish here in PA, USA, have used a few Haflingers to pull their buggies/ carriages. Also a few have been used at a nearby therapeutic riding center ❤.
The four things Haflingers can't do;
Be dumb
Be dull
Metabolize sugar well
Stay thin.
I have been waiting for this one ! What a delightful film, I would give a lot to follow in your footsteps to the Tyrol .
I first heard of Haflingers from Marguerite Henry's book White Stallion of Lipizza.
They are so beautiful!
My husband and I traveled from Maine to Italy for vacation and are now in south Tyrol planning to ride Haflingers this weekend
Awesome! Have a great time!
