- This video explains every Female Titan in the Attack on Titan anime and manga. The Female Titan is one of 9 titan shifters in AOT and there have been several iterations of it throughout the AOT timeline. In the AOT manga we have currently seen more Female titans than in the anime, which has only had 1 Female Titan so far (Annie Leonhart). The manga displays Female Titans of the past, some of which have interesting designs. This video will explain the backstory of all Female Titans (that we know of) and also commentate on the designs of the ancient titans.

In this video I’m gonna explain every Female Titan in the history of attack on titan, ranging from nearly 2000 years ago all the way up till the present day of the series. The Female is the most versatile of all nine titan shifters.
In chapter 133, it was confirmed that certain shifters can manifest the abilities of others. Perhaps the most notable example was when the jaw titan gained both the characteristics and memories of the beast titan, after consuming just a single drop of Zeke’s spinal fluid. According to Annie it’s especially easy for the female to do the same thing, which is why Marley made her eat titan body parts before the mission on Paradis. Possibly as a result of their experiments, the current female titan has powers similar to other shifters, such as her titan crystalisation. Eren stated that Annie’s titan crystal was identical to that of the Warhammer crystal.
Another power of the female titan is it’s scream and this version has benefits and drawbacks when compared to Zeke. The benefit is that Annie’s scream literally works on any pure titan and allows her to control them to an extent, whereas Zeke’s scream only works on eldians that have consumed his spinal fluid.
Extra talents of the female titan include it’s endurance, which is probably the best of the nine shifters besides the cart titan. She was able to jog from this location all the way up to wall Maria that was a job meant for two shifters but she did it by herself after Marcel was killed. Her sprinting speed is also phenomenal, not to mention her precise renegeration, agility and hardening all being on full display during season 1.
Annie’s place of birth is not confirmed, but based on context we can assume it was somewhere on the Marleyean continent. By contrast to most eldians she was not born inside a segregated zone, as her mother was just a regular person that lived outside the walls of Liberio. Annie was the result of an affair between her mother and an eldian man, so once a blood test confirmed she was a subject of Ymir, she was sent to Liberio where she was adopted by Mr Leonhart. Being a young child she obviously had no recollection of her biologal parents, so her adoptive father really was the only family she ever had. Mr Leonhart had a similar story to Annie, in that he was from another country but was sent to the internment zone in Marley once his eldian blood was exposed. His goal in adopting her was to turn her into a warrior, which would grant him the status of honorary marlyean and as we know that brings a lot of benefits. On the morning of the Paradis island operation, Mr Leonhart finally apologised, given there was a good chance Annie would never return. He made her promise to one day return to Marley and this actually had really interesting ramifications for the rest of the series.
Early on in the mission, after marcel was eating by Ymir, Annie was the one advocating that they immediately return back to Marley. Although Reiner managed to convince them to continue, it was Annie that was then the most active in trying to complete the mission and go home. They would not be allowed to return home with nothing to show for it, so by acquiring the missing attack titan, it was at least something they could use to say the mission wasn’t a complete failure. If they had brought him back, Annie would’ve been able to return to her father and possibly live out the remaining years she had left.
The first female titan was also seen in chapter 122 and also chapter 136.

I had something in mind like that she couldnt just summon near titans with her scream but also control them to some extend, if she had royal blood. Maybe its still the same powers but its just activating the full potential, like it was with erens memories when he touches someone with royal blood.

I just wanna point out that ALL of the ancient shifters had "hollow eyes", it basically represented the fact that they were just puppets, or "slaves" being used by the founder. Another reason for the lack of visible eyes could symbolise the quote from king fritz, "slaves have no need for two eyes"

My theory is that if a male Eldian were to inherit the Female Titan his Titan form would still have a feminine body. After all, if Ymir, Pieck and Lara have masculine Titans, why not the opposite for a male user of the Female Titan?

I posted it elsewhere but I always assumed the “female Titan” was simply the female equivalent to Eren’s Titan, The Attack Titan. Their physical prowess, their ability to call titans, hardening, I always assume they were similar just opposing genders

I think the female is more an adaptative titan since it could manifest the powers of other titans easily. Also because Annie was female, it adapted its appearance to look feminine. (Like the Founder.)

The Attack Titan's power is that it can see the future shifter's memories, rather than just the past shifter's (like when Grisha inherited the Titan, Kruger mentions Mikasa and Armin). This is why I feel like "The Charge Titan," is more fitting of a name, as some mistranslations give it, because it can see the future, so it's "always charging forward, chasing freedom"
Annie likely only had Titan hardening because of the vial Eren drank. However, the Female Titan has the scream to call other Titans. The Attack Titan does not. In terms of abilities, those are their differences. The scream, and seeing the future.

Not really. It's one of the most liked in the series, especially because they changed the ending so that Eren goes berserk and beats Annie. The manga ending seemed incomplete and wasn't as satisfying.

The armoured and beast are straight forward but for the rest idk how they got those right. Eren's and Armin' memories maybe? Unless others named them. Eren knew about the warhammer likely from his inherited memories

Funny, Annie doesn't seem to really have any real difference between the past female Titans, making me think Isayama had plans to do something wierd with Annie, but never went through with it
She was probably going to play a similar role to Historia had the story ended much sooner, but all her interactions with Eren basically got retconned later on for Aruani. In fact, I even used to theorise that Annie had royal blood since she was adopted and had the same scream as Zeke.

Eh, the Screan may very well be the same thing for all Female Titans, and even if she had Royal blood, that wouldn't explain how she can call titans anyways. Zeke can only control the Titans that come from his Spinal fluid, and Annie has called the likes of many Pure Titans that certainly don't have her Spinal fluid. Marley never saw her as Special outside of her combat abilities, so I don't think she ever would've been revealed as a Royal blood Warrior.

@@thalmoragent9344 Well, Isayama has retconned a few things here and there, like Pieck's entire character and probably changed the ending multiple times. I just think it was unnecessary for Annie to be adopted, if she didn't have royal blood. Who are her real parents? why was she ditched? It definitely feels like all this was originally going to be a major factor but got retconned later. Maybe Isayama felt he wasn't giving Krista enough importance and decided to give HER royal blood instead? Because Krista's entire origin story makes little to no sense, like the part where she stated she'd been doing all the housework for as long as she could remember(Meaning she was a self-sufficent adult by the age of 5) without any help from her mother, and lived just fine after she left. Her backstory is ridiculous. Isayama couldn't have thought of this in season 1. I also don't think Annie was crystallised only to be unfrozen near the literal end of the manga. I've heard this argument somewhere on r/titanfolk, but maybe it needs to be expanded upon.
Not exactly Historia, maybe some of Zeke's role too. Perhaps as a royal blooded titan, she'd be another means of starting the rumbling besides Zeke. Isayama definitely had an original ending in mind, because 139 has too many inconsistencies to serve as the 'original' ending. It'd just be interesting to see how Annie would factor in had the story ended much sooner if aot didn't have an anime adaptation.

@@tnb4509 I too thought that Annie could have been a descendant of royal blood. It always seemed extrange that her origins were kept so ambiguous and it really stood out for me that during the fight with Eren in the capital he was able to use the founder's powers. I think it's fair to assume that Isayama kept her crystallised as a backup plan for some other storyline.
I also had the wild theory for a while that she could've been Kenny's daughter with Historia's mother, just because during her 'secret mission' when she encountered Kenny she mentioned something about her looking for his father in a tavern or whatever. Because she looked a lot like Historia I thought that Kenny working/being close with Rod Reiss could've led him to having an affair with Historia's mother. That would've made her an Ackerman too, which in retrospective, there could've been something to it because there was always a rivalry between her and Mikasa. That would explain too why she had such fighting capabilities besides having been trained frome early age. But ofc, knowing that humanity existed outside the walls and that she came from Marley made that theory highly unlikely.

Annie’s Titan can manifest or shape shift different types of powers like the crystallization power like the warhammer, the explosion power after she shape shifts like the colossal and the screaming to attract other Titans like the founder. She’s basically a power shifter

Would be interesting - I feel it’s not her style, though. She prefers mobility and hand-to-hand combat than the Warhammer’s extremely limited movement and weapon specialization.
I feel the best candidate for Warhammer would be someone tactical/methodical, able to place themselves in the right spot to setup as a siege or anti-siege with ‘missile’ weaponry, maybe a shield? Anti-infantry, make titans immobile with ground spikes, and must be able to fend off at least one Titan holder.
Damn. I wish Isayama can give us more attack on titan - doesn’t have to be an Eren/Ymir story tho

I feel like the Female and Attack Titans are the feminine and masculine counterparts to each other. Neither has really unique powers like the Jaw or Armored Titans, but they’re quick and good at melee combat.
Attack titan can see and communicate with past and future holders of the attack titan.
But one of them has plot armour
@@blazednlovinitsome fans theorize this might be an ability of Eren in particular, who has both the Attack and the Founder Titans. If you think about it, the only future memory we know Kruger had was about Eren. Also, the royal family didn't know the Attack Titan had this supposed power. So this might have been a power unique to Eren with all the Titans he's fused.

I can't say it's wrong but the show does communicate that the attack titan has this ability to transcend time, and it's purpose was to stand up to the royal family and nobility IIRC. So that the royal family don't know it's potential would also fit with that.

I think it’ll depend on the male user really. It’ll more likely to be feminine but always a small chance for a masculine body like Ymir’s female founding titan.
Wouldn't really say they took on male forms either. They're "androgynous" (halfway between the two, or a human with no sex-defining characteristics)

i feel like the female titan and attack titan don't have distinguished enough looks and abilities, they just look like big cool titans but everyone else looks sick, not saying they dont look cool or anything but they look less special imo.
@@monke980 Eren is usually given special treatment so it doesn't really matter. The studio always puts a high budget on his appearance making sure his muscles are as defined as possible, and with the glowing eyes too. His still panels are also extremely well drawn. If anything, the Jaw and Warhammer titans haven't been done justice with the CGI.
@@tnb4509 i mean but my point is that the rest of them have cool definining traits, the jaw titan has the cool mane and like face made out of bone or something, the warhammer has the armor stuff, and so on and so on, but the attack and female titan are just blank, especially the female titan, the attack has some cool features in the face.
Does anyone else think that the experiments done on Annie gave her all imperfect versions of other titans powers? She can call titans but the try to eat her, she can harden, but I've always wondered if she was able to protect herself by making the crystal, but is unable to get out of it on her own. She stays in it until Erin destroys all the titan hardening for the rumbling. Why else would she stay in the crystal for years with no attempt to escape, knowing she only has 13 years to live?

Annie is for sure more talented than Mikasa, she had to endure training that traumatized her and Mikasa just had to be born with Ackerman blood. Both are talented but Annie for sure is more skilled. Mikasa would win in a fight due to Ackerman blood probobly tho.

It actually is a pretty great for different strategies, it's also a great way of hiding the identity of the Female Titan shifter, as well as a pretty good disguise for a surprise attack.

I think a male shifter of the Female Titan would still have a feminine body. It's not just the people of Paradis who refer to Annie's titan as the Female Titan, Marley does as well. This titan presenting female when this is a RARE occurrence amongst titans (even amongst female titan shifters) is definitely it's defining feature and that is why this titan is named for it.

I'm pretty sure Marley named it the "Female Titan" and not the War-Type Titan (due to its all-rounder, battle-ready stats) or something like that because they already tried giving it to male warriors, only to show feminine-characteristics after transformation. It's actually plausible, since Marley is very informed about the titans in their disposal. Surely they must've done loaaaads of experiments, with constant results of a female-type titan regardless of the user's gender.
Or maybe they did give it to a male shifter, but the Titan came out totally messed up and not functional at all, so they just gave it to female shifters all along. Man, imagine turning into a Titan only to get eaten in like a day.

I think that Female’s ability to scream wasn’t taken from Zeke, because abilities are different. Annie can summon any pure titans, and Zeke need his spinal flyid to transform and then control them. I think this ability is common for Female remembering how Ymir’s daughters ate her. This could be kinda of representation of that.
The Female Titan:
1. Has a portion of the Jaw Titan's speed and biting power, as well as a unique looking mouth (at least when opened)
2. Has a portion of the Cart Titan's stamina (she was able to reach the walls starting near the ocean all by herself because Marcel died)
3. Is skinless like the Colossal Titan (the first and last time Bertholdt/Berutoruto/Boruto has been inside her)
4. Has a portion of the Founding TItan's power taken from the Beast Titan (that's why it's even weaker then Zeke's because she didn't get it from the Founder)
5. Has Titan crystallization like the Warhammer Titan
6. Can easily and accurately harden parts of her body taken from the Armored Titan (she can harden just her fingers like Reiner did when each of them try to climb the wall, Zeke can't do this and Eren can only do it because of the Armor vial that he drank)
She didn't get to eat a part of the Founding nor the Attack Titan because those wasn't in Marley's possession. And maybe even the crystallization was taken from the Armored TItan because the Warhammer Titan was the Tybur's own and not Marley's; and maybe that is also why she can't crystallize first from a hidden location then make a titan, she first had to fuse with Eren's titan just to make that crystal. Or maybe she got the crystallization power from the combined armor of the Armored Titan and the face plate and claws of the Jaw Titan.

I think a man who inherited the female titan would still have a feminine titan, if a female inherits a titan or transforms into a pure titan, they possess a generally male body, so I think it would just be the same vice versa
Any reason to think that or just what you want to be true?
My theory is that it's only called the "female titan" because it's the only one (at the time) with such a feminine body. If it had been a male in the shifter, maybe it wouldn't look so feminine and they'd have maybe called it the skinless titan or something,
@@blazednlovinit If your statement is true, then the name for it would have been changed hundreds of years ago, but since it's still called "Female Titan" in the present means that no matter what gender of the user is, their Titan form still has the body of a woman. I mean Eldians dominated the world for atleast 2 thousand years, they seek to raise their power no matter what it takes so pretty sure they made a bunch of Titan experiments (Ackermans for example), including trying to give a man the Female Titan power.

@@blazednlovinit Tricky Question, No, but we do have other famale users, piloting a Titan power with a specific gender and their Titan forms seems to exhibit Male features instead of female ones, so the most logical reasoning is if a male inherits the power then of course the form would still be the same, the Founding Titan is an exemption because its takes the form of it's current holder no matter what gender.
As for the question if I know that the Female Titan has been called that specific name for thousands of years, that shouldn't even be a question, because that's how you Identify the Titan Power from the rest, but my answer is Yes.

Colossus Titan Could'veve been the Explosion Titan, or even Steam Titan, but they chose to call it that because it is bigger than the others.
Another example is the Cart, They could've named it The Endurance Titan, but no, they chose the name because it's mostly used to transport objects. Others are pretty self explanatory.
Based from Ymir's flashback on 122, the female Titan is the only one of the other 8 to be shown to have Female features, hence the name, because that's how anyone would easily identify it, you also have a number of Female Titans on the background in the final battle, which implies that there were many throughout their history, Which is also why I questioned you earlier, if your theory is true, then How come the name wasn't changed? Your "Skinless Titan" name is plausible it can be called that name, but there's one flaw, The Titan power is still called Female Titan on the present day, which automatically implies that it has always been with Female Features, you don't think not atleast once the noble family holding it tried to give it to a male family member? Because pretty sure it's a great way to hide the identity of the titan shifter, the "Female Titan" power in a Male user.

After watching all of your AOT History Explained video, I am convinced that while the TItans all represent the aspects of Ymir their different abilities and appearance can be linked to the 3 daugthers (Maria, Rose and Sina). Like the Cart Titan, Beast Titan and Jaw Titan are one group, the Colossal, Attack and Female Titans are another, and the Armor and Warhammer are the other. 1 Tree (Ymir/Founding Titan), 3 Big Branches (Maria, Rose, Sina) and 7 small branches (the 8 titans)

They wanted to capture Eren because when they found out he was the Attack Titan, it was the closest thing they'd got to a lead in their 5 years there. They didn't know for certain he was the "coordinate", but they were willing to accept anything that could give them an idea. That's why they also wanted to take Ymir and Historia back.
Also, its still one of the two Titan shifters they didn't have and I think by S2 they just wanted to go home but knew they needed something to show for it. If they had returned back to Marley without Ymir or Eren they probably would have been replaced as warriors.
I’m also sure that even if they didn’t get the Founder, Marley would’ve been happy to get the Attack Titan out of the picture.
