Right. At current penalty system, if two cars collides, then each cars will trigger their own penalty which is not fair. Turn10 need to make the penalty system be able to differentiate between the victim and the assailant.

So you get a 2.25 sec penalty for nothing at 6:48, and the guy on the last corner fucks everything up with a crazy divebomb at 16:55 costing 4 places and gets 0 penalty, and finishes ahead of the guy he cleaned out. This games not ready.

Hopefully they tweak the penalty system but besides that this looks really fun. The races look a lot more intense than horizon as the cars speed are fairly similar
You're never going to get a perfect penalty system that doesn't have any human input. What matters is whether it more often than not reads situations correctly, which it has in my experience thus far - which is pretty impressive for a system that hasn't had any tweaks or updates yet.

Will say online racing is really fun. Just got the achievement for 20 races while having a s rated license. Haven't seen much dirty driving but alot of the comments say other wise haha.

Horizon don't have a rating system so everyone is mixed in the same lobby. Motorsport have one, just give some time to separate those crash a lot and those don't.
Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but no penalty @ 3:41 & 5:41 (track limits) but a penalty while getting shunt? (not your fault) Trying manual for the first time (before it was on/off) in SP with controller. The game is a lot of fun imo. Love controller play a lot more than GT7 in chase cam view (feels weird on GT7) I miss something like Scapes or something unique besides racing in FM8. The radar in GT7 is better to see dive bombers. The dynamic day/night cycle combined with weather is impressive in FM8
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one this happened two. I backed out of a two wide entry into a tight corner (1st corner on Leguna short) and got rear ended AND the game gave me. 4 sec penalty. My theory WAS that the game assigns fault to car on the inside in attempt to stop people from diving up the inside and using another car as a brake. In my case I was already in position on the inside and had someone dive down to the apex from the behind and outside and crash into me. ..and the game thought maybe I was diving down the inside??? But in your case you were on the outside and gave room . The guy went wide and crashed into you. That makes no sense to me how the AI could have thought that was your fault.
Here’s a tip for those who are new to the game and want to improve your lap time turn off all the assist and start with normal to simulation steering with abs on

The racing in this game looks awesome, try doing half the side by side action in FM7 and everyone would be in the shadow realm. Intense and fun racing, wish they could figure out a way so people could spectate without taking up slots
I don't think it was fully intentional @ 6:48. Black golf cut the turn and bumped the white one, causing him to lose a bit of control over the situation and dude didn't use the brakes to recover. Seeing how these cars twitch and how HARD white golf bumped you without losing any speed at initial contact, looks similar to desyncs in previous iterations of forza games... Not much has changed in the netcode, I guess. White golf did brake after you recovered too to let you get back into the race, I think. I may be wrong, but we don't know what their real intentions were and the game is giving hard times to precisely tell what and why something had happend. Sucks for the penalty though :(

I think where the penalty system goofed was where on the car he was hit and the angle. To me, it looked like the pentalty was given as if ISAD chopped down at another car aiming for the apex, even though he was driven into. Needs tweaking, but I can also see why it goofed. Hoping T10 makes tweaks with big updates the game gets over time.
I did a 6 hour race around spa yesterday and I have to say the penalty system needs tweaking. I would barely dip a tire out amd I would get a half second penalty then I would go flying off the track and get no penalty

I heard the whole point why iRacing penalized both colliding racers instead of picking whose at fault since they said automated penalty system will always be busted and exploitable no matter what. I wonder if it's applied to this
They aren't wrong. Ultimately it's just game code trying to determine fault, so it won't be perfect and it'll also probably have exploitable tendencies in how it 'sees' situations. Computer code doesn't look at these things like a human set of eyes and brain does. If you penalize both then at least you know you're penalizing (and hopefully deterring) the person responsible 100% of the time. It's also more deterministic, so at least you're not at the mercy of an algorithm. Penalty systems are basically a never-ending struggle for the devs involved - trying to make it smarter, while trying not to accidentally introduce regressions to the system's ability to 'understand' situations in the process. As good and bad drivers separate themselves via their ratings, hopefully there will be less ramming attempts against people like ISAD in the first place.
Penalty system looks mostly okay aside from struggling with side-on collisions. It also looks like they might have the races a bit too short for how large the grid is on 'spec' series. The idea of having everyone in similar specs is kinda ruined when you can be forced into a no-win state because of it being impossible to climb past 14 other drivers unless they all manage to REALLY mess up.
The GT3 series are twice as long being about 16 minutes long. I have not tried it yet atm. Also I forgot to qualify in these races, hence starting last.

I've accidentally made contact with other Players when I'm slowing down taking sharp turns though I've never caused anyone to spin out or nearly spin out. it's just the way the game goes sometimes. I've actually gone back to Forza Motorsport 7 while they fix this however long it takes. I also bought Gran Turismo 7 as well.
You seem lucky to not deal with the textures disappearing during your races. I can’t play because randomly part of the track and or the world around the track just disappear. Hella distracting and ruins the race. Maybe after an update I can actually enjoy the game.
