I never got around to pulling up my tubers last year, so assuming they all died, I ordered 17 new varieties this year. I just did a walk-around in my garden, and last years dahlias are putting up foliage right now! I live in 6B coastal RI. Good luck to you!

This is the only reason I don't buy dahlias and calla lilies. Although I now have 2 calla lilies that winterize for a long time. Started out as 1 now 2. I think it's calla lily but the foliage looks like elephant ears 🤷. I don't have storage space to store them every year. Oh I live in zone 7/8??🤦‍♀️🤷🤦‍♀️ I'm not good with this kinda of things. I live in Canada but 30minutes drive to Bellingham Washington. I get a ton of rain year round. 🤦‍♀️🤣😂

I live about 40 minutes from Swan Island Dahlia Farm and went there four times last year. It is just heaven. I also took a bouquet arranging class which was amazing. The fields are open August through September. I would wait for September because you are going to find the dahlias in full bloom then. I ordered 23 dahlia tubers for there for this spring. 🌸🌸🌸

Hi Erin, love your videos for real-life gardeners without acres of space!
I grew about 20 dahlia individuals the first time last year. In a row, tilled an fertilized, only dahlias.
One of it was waltzing mathilda. She was so beautiful, glaring in the sun. In oktober I unearthed, that she grew many big and healthy tubers with many eyes! So, more in years to come. So exciting :)
I'd love to send you one, but shipping to USA is very expensive😕
This year I'll till a new area that was abandoned the last few years and kick my dahlias up to 70 individuals. Seeds make it possible.
    Dahlias sucked me in!
Blooming greetings from germany, zone 7

So many pretty dahlias. I can't wait to see your gardens. I have also ordered from Longfield and have had great luck growing their dahlias. I ordered another 4 yesterday from a new farm. It's so addictive. I dug my dahlias last fall and they produced 200 tubers. I'm adding 55 more this year! I hope they as showy as the picture. :)

Love what you said at the beginning for folks who aren’t in to buying different varieties but still want to grow Dahlias and the fact that they can get tubers at box stores or local garden centers. I do love to order mine from Longfield and I like that on some of the varieties, you can order a single tuber. I treat my Dahlias as annuals so this makes me feel better about doing that. Also love growing them from seed and the surprise you get!
Your Dahlia addiction is real ☺️ but all so beautiful and we enjoy seeing them in your gardens 💚

Erin, I am so glad I discovered you and your channel...if for no other reason it's the new-to-me discovery of dahlias! We all learn from those who have gone before us and for my Mom and her Mom, we were more rose, tulips, lilies, hydrangeas, caladiums, and fern growers. Not much in the way of dahlias. Am guessing it has something to do with the S.E. soil and climate. Anyway, am enjoying learning about them and have tried a few...this year is my second try at it. Nothing amazing yet, just getting to know that flower. Thanks for the enthusiasm and inspiration you bring for us. Cheers! ❤👍🏻🌺

Great video Erin, as always, love these varieties and now I have to have that apple blossom collarette. I want you to know, I grew Islander last year and I had two. They were 7' tall! in a partly shaded area, so prepare yourself for the height, it towered over all my other dahlias in the same bed. Thank goodness I put it in the middle and not toward the front. GORGEOUS blooms, and yes it's very much going to be that one statement flower in a bouquet, it's also very prolific, which was surprising yet so wonderful! Hello Erin, from Central Wisconsin! Thanks for sharing all your dahlia knowledge, you gave me the courage to try growing them for the first time a couple of years ago. I placed an order from a company that shall remain nameless, not any that I got were what I ordered. They were still beautiful but I wanted what I ordered, they made good on it and I re-ordered the following year and again, was sadly disappointed. So I went to Longfield last year and was extremely happy with the tubers and they performed amazing! Melody Swing was one of them, it was the first to bloom and went strong all season. I just placed another order a couple days ago and have plans to double the size of the bed I put in last spring. I picked up some Penhill Watermelon at Walmart after seeing yours and they blew me away, easily 7 feet tall or more and were very prolific, tons of blooms all season. Needless to say, I'm addicted.. Thank you!!! :)

You may have solved a mystery for me. I garden in SE South Dakota, USDA Zone 4b/5a. A flower that was supposed to be Penhill Watermelon, wasn't. I was having the hardest time finding out what it was. I think it might be Milena Fleur. Only thing is, mine is iridescent, it sparkles, if that makes any sense. It's gorgeous. Can remember if I got any tubers from it, but we'll find out once everything is planted and blooms. Wish me luck!

Waltzing Matilda is a stunner and very prolific. It’s not hard to get a hold of in Europe (Sweden). Here other varieties are hard or even impossible to get, even when you’re starting to order almost a year beforehand. Last year a cutting of Appleblossom cost about 100 dollars at an auctionsite here. I would send you Waltzing Matilda but it cost to much and is hard with all the rules for export and import to and from USA to Europe with plants. /Erica (writing from my cats RUclips account 😂🙈😊)

We have a similar taste. I ordered so many like yours. I left Appleblosom for next year, and few others.

Omg, the Thomas edison.....so good!! I was my best performer last year!! Definitely a staple dahlia from now on with me lol. New one I'm trying this year is "lilac time'. Its a sport of Thomas edison.

I ordered Peaches N Cream for the same reason. 😂 It’s also hard to find, from what I’ve seen, so when I happened to hop on a sale and see it still available, I snagged it. It does look gorgeous!

I ordered several last yr, my first time growing the tall variety. I ordered 8 from Swan Island, 6 were not what I ordered. I also ordered some from American Meadows, they replaced some that came looking shriveled up and they came within a couple days. I'd also like to tell any newbies to the tall Dahlia, PLEASE take stacking seriously, so wish I had.

Not sure if you have ever ordered from White Flower Farm in Litchfield CT. I have gotten bulbs and plants from them and have been very happy with everything I received. bulbs are very big and healthy. Plants are very good sized and adapt readily. They have the dahlia that you were looking for.....Dahlia Waltzing Mathilda.

Can you do a video on how you stake your Dahlias? When you do Garden Tours, I never see any staking. Staking is an area that I need more information about. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

I tried growing one dahlia last year, but didn't get much in return. I thought I'd try to keep the tubers, but let them freeze in my garage so into the trash they went.
If I do try again, I'll likely try a ball-type variety. Then I can cut them for bouquets.

There are 2 different " Peaches and Cream. " There is the spelling above and then there is Peaches N Cream. Which is the one I like better. You may want to look at them individually. Also Peaches and Dreams. :) Beautiful collection. I'm getting a few of these this year as well.

I have dahlia fever this year because I finally own my own home and can plant all the things lol. I probably ordered way too many but I'm so excited about it!! I pre-ordered from Edenbrothers and from longfield gardens.

Love the video and all your information. I grew some tubers from a big box store last year and they were beautiful. This year I ordered a few and will attempt to dig up and store over the winter but that is what stopped me from growing in the past. I'm so worried they will dry out and die over the winter or I'll water log them and kill them. Storage is what intimidates me. Thank you for another great and informative video.

My peaches and cream did not grow that tall. It was under 3 foot. I grew two of them in my cut flower garden. I’m so jealous you got appleblossom!
