It's frustrating that pads are seen as repressive or smth, though. They're easy and reliable, and some of us can't insert anything without a lot of pain. What's important is that there's a choice available.
That's not the point, the point is how much people look down on tampons and menstrual cups because it's as though womens purity is defined by what she uses AND a women is defined by something as stupid as her "virginity "

I don’t like pads but they are the easiest to use so I use them ..but many people prefer not to use them and in many different cultures that choice is shamed upon and I didn’t even realize how lucky I am to be living in a more accepting environment about this stuff ..
Yes it is. With pads you don't run the risk of tearing your hymen and in some Asian cultures, keeping your hymen intact for marriage is something to be expected. Shoving something up your vagina that can cause your hymen to stretch or tear is a big no-no to them even though it won't cause a girl to lose her virginity.

I don't trust pads haha, it's so messy and "restricting" since I hate to feel that I'm on my period. I don't feel it with a tampon and it literally feels (with painkillers though) like any other day. But each to their own 😊
I think I would be afraid to forget that I am on my peroid :/ because maybe than I would forget to pull out the tampon or something like this ... I don't use tampons because they hurt me and I am totaly okay with pads and even if they leek sometimes for me it is the best way to see how strong my period is 😊
Where I live, the United States, us girls aren't really conservative about having our periods. Everyone I know uses tampons, including me. If we need to change during class, we also hide it too. However, when we ask our friends it's not embarrassing at all. We'll say it outloud with other girls around. Sometimes, we ask random girls in school if none of our friends have a tampon. It's a normal thing and we girls talk about it so casually over here. Guys sometimes are curious and we freely talk about it to them so they can learn.
I don't like the idea of people speaking casually about their period in the open. It's nothing to be ashamed about, but it seems like a very personal sort of thing that you don't just talk about. It is probably the fact that I'm a very reserved person.

There are times I forget I am using a tampon until my cramps kick in and I'm like "Oh, sh** I should change." Hahaha tampons are good with pantyliners if you'll be wearing light-colored pants.
I used to always use pads but for a dance competition I had to use a tampon and honestly at first it hurt but then I started to really like using them because of the convienence and now its all I use
Depending on the tampons you get [because there are light, regular, heavy, and super] you would change a tampon usually every 3 to 5 hours. I use pads at home and tampons when I am out and about or at school. I prefer tampons overall because I feel cleaner since the blood doesn't leave the body. I personally like the kotex click ones, they are easy to use and the plastic applicator is WAY more comfortable than the cardboard ones. If you are worried about leaking, just wear a pantyliner as well.

It all depends on how heavy you flow. I flow really heavy, to the point I can't sleep with a pad. I risk soiling all of my sheets and destroying my underwear.
i used tampons for such a long time and literally never got TSS... i think your one chance of getting it is if you have your tampon in for a REALLY REALLY long time. but if you're diligent about taking your tampon out when you're supposed to, and more often if you have a heavy flow, you should be fine. but if you feel more comfortable using something else, then go for it.

When you're young they can be especially uncomfortable, or just uncomfortable in general. What works for some doesn't always work for others. Plus the risk of experiencing pain with is a big no for me personally

간간히 월경을 표현 할때 '그거..' 혹은 '마법' 이라고 대신 지칭하는 경우가 많은데 , 생리는 창피한 일이 아니고 자연스러운 일이니 그냥 '월경(생리)' 이라고 자연스럽게 불러주셨음 좋겠어요! 저도 그냥 당당히 남자들 앞에서나 사람들 앞에서 생리 , 생리대 라고 칭하다보니 주변 시선도 조금씩 바뀌는 것 같아요. 사소한 변화가 큰 변화를 이루어 낼 수 있도록 같이 노력해요! ^^7

Personally, I prefer tampons bc I hate the feeling of blood gushing out of me and with tampons you can’t feel it coming out. I use pads as backup along with the tampon.

If it hurts to pull tampons out, you're using the wrong kind of tampon. Tampon absorbency is based on flow..if it hurts to pull it out then use one for a lighter flow.
Exactly! I'm 25yo with quite a strong flow and I only use "normal" for the start and "mini" for the end. Once I bought the "super" for heavy flow and boy oh boy did it hurt.
Stephanie1119 not always, some women have diseases such as endometriosis which makes tampons and mensural cups hurt like hell. Not every woman is the same and people have different circumstances and issues.

I had such a heavy flow at a young age that my mother suggested a tampon. It hurt the first time, so I didn't use it anymore. When I became an adult, I decided to use a tampon because I couldn't get any sleep at night and I had to be up early for work. At the time, I was mentally and physically prepared to use it. And now, even the Ultra tampons don't work. I'm now working on using the cup, which is going to start as another painful experience, but possibly get easier with time. But I have fibroids, so it makes me bleed heavier than normal.
At least it was just 11 days. When I first started, my period lasted for about a month. I was scared something was wrong with me since my family said the periods are only for a few days.
I've had my period for 2 months straight before, it was because of the stupid bar :/ Edit: to say it messed up my iron levels a lot to the point where I need to take iron tablets daily

I just recently switched to cups. It's sooooo much better. I've never used a tampon before because it's also a stigma in my country. I didn't like pads because they irritate my skin on the groin area and the cotton would sometimes cling to my hair down under, it hurts. Not to mention, the smell of blood. You might as well be wearing a diaper. Cups are reusable so you save the environment, and indeed, you learn about you body more. Your blood flow, the amount you have per day on your period, your own anatomy. I hope it's no longer a taboo in society. The concept of "virginity" is a social construct. It's ridiculous. Why is a woman's value based on whether she already had sex or not? Why are men the opposite? The more they had sex, the "manlier" they are? Ridiculous.
C.C. virginity is when you haven't had sex before. Lack of virginity means you have had sex. Its hardly a social construct. When you say that a girl or a guy is a virgin, they simply haven't had sex before.Its a describing word, not an idea. And the reason why women are sensitive about hygenic products is beyond me, use what you feel is right. I prefer pads because I tried tampons and they weren't right for me. Being a very reserved person, when it comes to my bodily functions, I don't like talking about my periods to other people, including my family. It isn't because I'm embarrassed, I just don't want to make people feel akward around me or treat me in a different way because of that, as well as I don't want to draw attention to myself. I do find it slightly galling when other girls describe their periods in great detail, Like a few days ago I was forced to listen to a conversation like that when waiting outside my math class near these girls...there is a time and a place for everything...
when you take out the cup full of blood does the blood get all over your hand ? I mean when you are not carefull ... and what happens when the cup is too small for your period ... does it leek ? My period does not come regulary so I don't know if it is strong or not this time ... how do you know which cup size I should use ? And what happens when you are not at home instead you are at a public toilet or something :-D do you change the cup and wash it in the public sink ?! (I don't know if I would like this... tbh)
My country is very religious. So it's bad for both women and men to have sex before marriage. It's not just due to "virginity", being virgin means you can endure it.
yeees!! i think exactly the same. cups are better for health and environment, they don't bother at all and you can do a lot of things. tampons can dry the vagina and start infections, pads irritate skin and also can infect this area, also the smell.... people are afraid of using it because they don't know their body and society has a lot of prejudice against it. i hope kids get teached better about periods and their body so they can take decisions for themselves
I was suprised that they have the same stigma regarding mensturation in Korean as they do in Turkey (even the black bag thing) my mum still hates it when she sees my tampons and still tells me not to use them. It’s weird to me that adult women with children say they shouldn’t use tampons because they especially should know how much it’s not like anything sexual... tampons are generally quite small and once inserted fully you can’t really even feel it. And putting it in...definitely isn’t pleasurable

Fiona Idk The key is inserting in the correct position. Your first time you will find some resistence but if you practice finding the entry it will be much easier afterwards to push up the tampon. Personally, when I first tried it the picture on the box didn't help me at all so it really comes down to practice and being relaxed. That said, I also prefer pads as a first choice.
Plastic applicators tend to be better than the cardboard too. As Paulina mentioned, the correct insertion position is key, but I would also add using the correct type of tampon for your menstrual flow (light/regular//sport/extra/super extra). Using a super extra on day 1 will of course be painful. They're also super easy to remove when you're in the shower.
You gotta start with the smallest ones. Personally, I've never used an applicator and I don't understand what they're needed for... I use o.b. tampons and you just wash your hands clean and use one of your fingers to push in. It's great because that way you have better control and you can feel what you're doing, so you'll be less likely to hurt yourself. You have to reach a place where you can't really feel it anymore, like 2 inches deep. Sorry for tmi
개인적인 생각이지만 처녀막에 대한 논란에 있어서 뭐가 사실인지는 전혀 중요하지 않다고 생각합니다. 애초에 그게 논란이 된다는 것 자체가 편견과 선입견 속에서 피어난 거기 때문이죠. 처녀가 아닌 여자 혹은 성관계를 일삼는 여자는 문란한 여자다. 여자는 순결을 지켜야만 한다. 여성이 본인의 신체임에도 불구하고 자신의 몸처럼 대해지지 않는 인식과 분위기. 그게 만약 없었더라면 처녀막 따위 중요했을까요? 처녀막이 여성의 순결을 인증해주는 수단으로서 인식되는 것, 물론 너무 기분 나쁜 일임은 분명하지만 그것보다도 애초에 그걸 따지게 된 사회 인식이 바뀌어야 한다고 봅니다.
I feel bad for the girl who's mom wouldn't let her use a tampon. They're very reliable, especially for situations like going swimming. Though pads are also fine if that's what you prefer.
Maybe her mom is a conservative type of mom.. She doesn't want her daughter to be deverginize by a tampon, the girl stated that her mom's friend said that don't use tampon until you are married. Korea is still a conservstive country when it comes to this kind of topic.
This really helped shed some light on our cultural differences.....Nowadays no one claims the "tampons will take your virginity" pledge, We should know by now that's not how female biology works. I hope everyone finds what is most comfortable for them instead of following what they're told about themselves.
Even from a religious point of view, reducing virginity to the hymen is wrong. It would means that someone who did anal and oral but no vaginal penetration is a virgin, wtf ? God knows that you had sex even if you made these things to keep your hymen intact. Caring more about proving your virinity to people with your hymen, than actually refraining from sexual activity is a big sin. God knows who use tampons and who has illicit sex.
I relate to what that girl said about learning more about her body by using menstrual cups. I felt the same way when I start using tampons that the vagina is curved not straight and that you have 2 different holes and the first hole being your "pee" hole and vagina is farther back. It's sad but alot of women even western women know so little about their own genitalia.

For those uncomfortable with putting something in yourself or having a lot of waste with pads. U can go for washable pads. Im using it now. It's comfortable and also saves the environment.

I always hated the way disposable pads made me feel, they're so sweaty and itchy... I recently switched to reusable cloth pads and I'm never looking back. It feels like you're sitting on a pillow and they're so breathable and really absorbent. And I love the cute patterns that they can be made with! Another thing I love is that they don't emit any odors, so used pads can be stored for a couple days or in your bag without any concerns.
Sanitary cups are difficult the first time you try it, and can hurt because you don't know how to do it, but after a few tries it doesn't hurt at all, and you only have to empty it once in the morning and once in the evening. They're so amazing, you never have to buy new stuff and you can do anything you want - you don't even feel like you're on your period. I really love my cup, it has brought me quality of life during those days every month, instead of having to walk around and feel miserable all the time. Just remember to research first on how to fold it to put it in properly, and which one to buy for your body; some are wider/narrower/longer/shorter/firmer/softer, find the one right for you before buying:) it's so worth it.
You can always carry a water bottle with you and rinse it over the toilet, or just use a little bit of toilet paper. But since you don't need to change it that often, chances are you can just wait until you're home.
At my high school if you went to the front office and asked for a pad/tampon you'd get a cute lil bag filled with one of each pads and normal tampons. After I left they did place a free pad(I believe tampon too) dispenser in the bathroom.
Wow. At my school (highschool) the pad/tampon dispensers are like always empty and if you go to the nurse they'll tell you that you need to bring your own, or give you the biggest pad you've ever seen.

It's frustrating that pads are seen as repressive or smth, though. They're easy and reliable, and some of us can't insert anything without a lot of pain. What's important is that there's a choice available.

Yes it is. With pads you don't run the risk of tearing your hymen and in some Asian cultures, keeping your hymen intact for marriage is something to be expected. Shoving something up your vagina that can cause your hymen to stretch or tear is a big no-no to them even though it won't cause a girl to lose her virginity.

I don't trust pads haha, it's so messy and "restricting" since I hate to feel that I'm on my period. I don't feel it with a tampon and it literally feels (with painkillers though) like any other day. But each to their own 😊

Where I live, the United States, us girls aren't really conservative about having our periods. Everyone I know uses tampons, including me. If we need to change during class, we also hide it too. However, when we ask our friends it's not embarrassing at all. We'll say it outloud with other girls around. Sometimes, we ask random girls in school if none of our friends have a tampon. It's a normal thing and we girls talk about it so casually over here. Guys sometimes are curious and we freely talk about it to them so they can learn.

I'm 19 and I've never touched a tampon or a menstrual cup in my life...I'm comfortable with pads because I like to change them every 3 hours or so..and I'm not sure how the others work but I should give it a try someday
Me, a rat. BTS, the Pied Piper It's a little uncomfortable the first time you use one, but a period in general is uncomfortable lol So in a way, you won't notice it. There are times I forget I am using a tampon until my cramps kick in and I'm like "Oh, sh** I should change." Hahaha tampons are good with pantyliners if you'll be wearing light-colored pants.
I used to always use pads but for a dance competition I had to use a tampon and honestly at first it hurt but then I started to really like using them because of the convienence and now its all I use
Depending on the tampons you get [because there are light, regular, heavy, and super] you would change a tampon usually every 3 to 5 hours.
I use pads at home and tampons when I am out and about or at school. I prefer tampons overall because I feel cleaner since the blood doesn't leave the body. I personally like the kotex click ones, they are easy to use and the plastic applicator is WAY more comfortable than the cardboard ones. If you are worried about leaking, just wear a pantyliner as well.

Me, a rat. BTS, the Pied Piper the only bad thing about tampon is if you have a heavy flow theyre kinda useless, I have a super heavy flow so even super tampons only last me 45 minutes to an hour. I mostly just use them for swimming.

i used tampons for such a long time and literally never got TSS... i think your one chance of getting it is if you have your tampon in for a REALLY REALLY long time. but if you're diligent about taking your tampon out when you're supposed to, and more often if you have a heavy flow, you should be fine. but if you feel more comfortable using something else, then go for it.

When you're young they can be especially uncomfortable, or just uncomfortable in general. What works for some doesn't always work for others. Plus the risk of experiencing pain with is a big no for me personally

세균은 피부에도 상재균이 엄청 많습니다.
세균 걱정하는 남자들은 생리컵만큼 남성기도 삽입 전에 소독했으면 합니다. 대부분 중탕 소독 하시던데 소시지 다 익겠다.
Personally, I prefer tampons bc I hate the feeling of blood gushing out of me and with tampons you can’t feel it coming out. I use pads as backup along with the tampon.

If it hurts to pull tampons out, you're using the wrong kind of tampon. Tampon absorbency is based on flow..if it hurts to pull it out then use one for a lighter flow.
Exactly! I'm 25yo with quite a strong flow and I only use "normal" for the start and "mini" for the end. Once I bought the "super" for heavy flow and boy oh boy did it hurt.
I use light for a brand with the smallest tampon for that size and it still hurts after a day.

Stephanie1119 not always, some women have diseases such as endometriosis which makes tampons and mensural cups hurt like hell. Not every woman is the same and people have different circumstances and issues.
Sometimes the pain comes from not inserting it right, or far enough up.
I've never touched a tampon or a cup.. I think it's hard to put and I am afraid of using it so I'll just stay with the comfortable one PADS

I had such a heavy flow at a young age that my mother suggested a tampon. It hurt the first time, so I didn't use it anymore. When I became an adult, I decided to use a tampon because I couldn't get any sleep at night and I had to be up early for work. At the time, I was mentally and physically prepared to use it. And now, even the Ultra tampons don't work. I'm now working on using the cup, which is going to start as another painful experience, but possibly get easier with time. But I have fibroids, so it makes me bleed heavier than normal.

At least it was just 11 days. When I first started, my period lasted for about a month. I was scared something was wrong with me since my family said the periods are only for a few days.

I just recently switched to cups. It's sooooo much better. I've never used a tampon before because it's also a stigma in my country. I didn't like pads because they irritate my skin on the groin area and the cotton would sometimes cling to my hair down under, it hurts. Not to mention, the smell of blood. You might as well be wearing a diaper.
Cups are reusable so you save the environment, and indeed, you learn about you body more. Your blood flow, the amount you have per day on your period, your own anatomy. I hope it's no longer a taboo in society. The concept of "virginity" is a social construct. It's ridiculous. Why is a woman's value based on whether she already had sex or not? Why are men the opposite? The more they had sex, the "manlier" they are? Ridiculous.

When you say that a girl or a guy is a virgin, they simply haven't had sex before.Its a describing word, not an idea. And the reason why women are sensitive about hygenic products is beyond me, use what you feel is right. I prefer pads because I tried tampons and they weren't right for me. Being a very reserved person, when it comes to my bodily functions, I don't like talking about my periods to other people, including my family. It isn't because I'm embarrassed, I just don't want to make people feel akward around me or treat me in a different way because of that, as well as I don't want to draw attention to myself. yeees!! i think exactly the same. cups are better for health and environment, they don't bother at all and you can do a lot of things. tampons can dry the vagina and start infections, pads irritate skin and also can infect this area, also the smell.... people are afraid of using it because they don't know their body and society has a lot of prejudice against it. i hope kids get teached better about periods and their body so they can take decisions for themselves

I was suprised that they have the same stigma regarding mensturation in Korean as they do in Turkey (even the black bag thing) my mum still hates it when she sees my tampons and still tells me not to use them. Fiona Idk The key is inserting in the correct position. Your first time you will find some resistence but if you practice finding the entry it will be much easier afterwards to push up the tampon. Personally, when I first tried it the picture on the box didn't help me at all so it really comes down to practice and being relaxed. That said, I also prefer pads as a first choice.

Plastic applicators tend to be better than the cardboard too. As Paulina mentioned, the correct insertion position is key, but I would also add using the correct type of tampon for your menstrual flow (light/regular//sport/extra/super extra). Using a super extra on day 1 will of course be painful. They're also super easy to remove when you're in the shower.
I cried too. It took me three tries to realize why it hurt so bad. I learned the hard way that I had a curve I never knew about. Gross XP Oh, well.
You gotta start with the smallest ones. Personally, I've never used an applicator and I don't understand what they're needed for... I use o.b. tampons and you just wash your hands clean and use one of your fingers to push in. It's great because that way you have better control and you can feel what you're doing, so you'll be less likely to hurt yourself. You have to reach a place where you can't really feel it anymore, like 2 inches deep.

This really helped shed some light on our cultural differences.....Nowadays no one claims the "tampons will take your virginity" pledge, We should know by now that's not how female biology works. I hope everyone finds what is most comfortable for them instead of following what they're told about themselves.
Even from a religious point of view, reducing virginity to the hymen is wrong. It would means that someone who did anal and oral but no vaginal penetration is a virgin, wtf ? God knows that you had sex even if you made these things to keep your hymen intact. Caring more about proving your virinity to people with your hymen, than actually refraining from sexual activity is a big sin.

I relate to what that girl said about learning more about her body by using menstrual cups. I felt the same way when I start using tampons that the vagina is curved not straight and that you have 2 different holes and the first hole being your "pee" hole and vagina is farther back. It's sad but alot of women even western women know so little about their own genitalia.

I always hated the way disposable pads made me feel, they're so sweaty and itchy... I recently switched to reusable cloth pads and I'm never looking back. It feels like you're sitting on a pillow and they're so breathable and really absorbent. And I love the cute patterns that they can be made with! Another thing I love is that they don't emit any odors, so used pads can be stored for a couple days or in your bag without any concerns.

Sanitary cups are difficult the first time you try it, and can hurt because you don't know how to do it, but after a few tries it doesn't hurt at all, and you only have to empty it once in the morning and once in the evening. They're so amazing, you never have to buy new stuff and you can do anything you want - you don't even feel like you're on your period.
I really love my cup, it has brought me quality of life during those days every month, instead of having to walk around and feel miserable all the time.
Just remember to research first on how to fold it to put it in properly, and which one to buy for your body; some are wider/narrower/longer/shorter/firmer/softer, find the one right for you before buying:) it's so worth it.

You can always carry a water bottle with you and rinse it over the toilet, or just use a little bit of toilet paper. But since you don't need to change it that often, chances are you can just wait until you're home.
At my high school if you went to the front office and asked for a pad/tampon you'd get a cute lil bag filled with one of each pads and normal tampons.
After I left they did place a free pad(I believe tampon too) dispenser in the bathroom.
Wow. At my school (highschool) the pad/tampon dispensers are like always empty and if you go to the nurse they'll tell you that you need to bring your own, or give you the biggest pad you've ever seen.
전 중학생인데 탐폰 애용합니다 !
작년 여름에 물놀이를 갈 예정이였습니다만.. 하루전날에 생리가 터져서 어쩔수없이 탐폰을 껴봤어요 처음에는 너무 걱정해서 그런가 제대로 안들어가서 좀 아팠었는데 그 다음으로 낄때는 긴장풀고 잘들어간 덕분에 천국을 경험했네요... 안그래도 생리통이 심해서 생리하는 우울감이랄까요 ? 인생살기싫다...하는 기분이 많이 들었는데 탐폰을 껴보니 생리하는거같지도 않고 저한테 잘맞은 바람에 그 이후로 계속 탐폰을 쓰고 있답니다 ~ 저는 제 친구들한테 "나처럼 잘맞을 수도 있으니까 한번 경험만 해봐"라는 식으로 자주 권유를 하는 편이예요 저는 오히려 제가 탐폰을 사용하는게 자부심이 들고 내가 잘맞는거 내가 잘쓰고 있다는 당당함이 스스로 느껴져서 좋습니다 ^^^/ 탐폰이나 생리컵을 사용하시는 분들께서는 저처럼 자부심을 느끼면서 기쁘게 사용하시길 바랍니다ㅎㅎ 우리는 시대를 앞서가는 신녀성! 이니까요 ~~
