An ocarina is a closed-type whistle-blowing instrument related to the clay whistle, a kind of bowl-shaped flute. In this video you will be able to follow the process of making the instrument - shaping, tuning and decorating. Making and decorating the ocarina - Inga Maijere. Ocarina tuning, playing, video and music - Aleksandrs Maiers. Thanks to everyone who watches, share, comment and like our videos! We created those with the support of the Latvian Cultural Capital Fund, with the aim of popularizing the making of musical instruments in Latvia. That's why all movies have Latvian subtitles. We are currently working on new videos🎥 and it doesn't look like we will have time to translate the old ones. And I wouldn't want to do it in ''aliexpress style'', our English is not that good, it's quite confusing.'-) However, I will add answers to frequently asked questions, maybe this can help: 1. You can slightly increase the basic tone of the ocarina by increasing the hole of the whistle 2. The holes are adjusted one by one, in turn. The bigger the hole, the higher the tone 3. The ocarina can be tuned from any other note as long as it's body is smaller or larger than the one we made. 4. When ocarina becomes dry, it shrinks, and tuning goes up (aprox 1 semitone for this size, G# maj becomes A maj) 5. You cannot simply copy the dimensions of the holes, their size depends on the volume of the ocarina and also the thickness of the walls. Good luck!♥AM
Thanks a lot for a very well done video ...I wish you had subtitles in english ...even though I understood how you were proceeding for the tuning of the ocarina. Are the diameters of the four holes always the same or do I have to change the values if (Like I tried today with a slightly bigger Ocarina with a ground tune in E ) the size of the Ocarina is varying? YOU made a very nice one, SO thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us. Michel

@@aleksandrsmaijers Thanks a lot for your answer Aleksandrs, I really appreciate it. I used to make (For a very long time ago what they call in swedish "Lergök" ...A cuckoo clay, by then I just put four holes in them, they were pendant ocarinas just nice to look at but not much of an instrument 😎😎They were done with stoneware clay and I used Ash glazes on them. Now on my old days, I wanted to pick up what i ENJOYED to do for many years ago and d discovered the four holes tuning ...I m really glad that I saw your video, it s gonna be fun to make real sounding "Lergökar" now. I ll tell you about my progress. Thanks a lot again for all this precious information CHEERS 😎😎Michel
At first it happens intuitively, trying to guess. If you have more experience, you can try using a kitchen scale. It is important that the thickness of the walls is uniform. The shape can be different, but it is easier to work with a round or oval shape. Good luck!
¡Gracias! Para esta ocarina utilizamos arcilla roja común y corriente, que podemos comprar en nuestra tienda de cerámica letona o encargarla. Temperatura de cocción ~900"C-1000''C. ¡Buena suerte!
Puiku! Išbandyta.
Simply perfect and natural magic, thank you!)🎉
Super Video.Thank you for the Tutorial
Unglaublich schön ❤❤❤
Liebes danke!

Thank you so much .. for your generous tutorial and wonderful petite Ocarina demonstration .. This was very meditative to watch ...
I am very glad that you liked our video! Thanks for watching and commenting too
Super sir amazing sound
Thank You
How do you calculate base pitch? And How the shape of inside of ocarina affects the sound?

@@aleksandrsmaijers thanks Aleks! I’ll do my best 😊
Так их в конце настройки обжигают???
Так, для твердости
Hola ,por favor que arcilla usas ? Es perfecta , se deja manejar

Can you do this with air dry clay?
You mean polymer clay? We never try it, but theoretically it must be possible.'-)
