That lucky bamboo forest was sick btw- the creativity using makeup organizers is immaculate QOTW: I am not a soup person in the slightest, but if the "cereal is soup" debate is to be believed, that would be my favorite.
I've figured it out!!! There's actually a tank with fish in - in front of the tank with the hamster in. So the hamster is in a tank with no water, but all the rocks and gravel, and in front of that there's a clear tank with just water and fish. You can actually see a reflection of a goldfish or two that seems to be emanating from the front of the tank the hamster is in. Very clever illusion. The key is to not think about the thing you don't expect to be there (the hamster) - but what you do expect to be there (in this case, the fish). edit. oh. I should have waited.
love the video as always! one thing I'll say: maybebrons terrestrial plant is philodendron brazil, not pothos. Very similar though! and a good tip. Another is to let the stem callous before adding it to the water so It doesnt rot.
Love that foraged scape! I'm planning on getting into terrarium/palladarium making this spring with foraged materials, so tanks like that are so inspiring to see. QotW: potato leek soup, hands down

A healthy, happy, and prosperous 2024 to you and all your loved ones! QOTW: my own veggie soup with a scoop of rice in it. SOOOOO easy and fast to make in the pressure cooker, filling, tasty AND healthy, too?! win win win.
QOTW: Not a huge soop fan, but if I had to pick one I'd say egg drop soup is my favorite. It's so good. For real QOTW: Water is def not wet. Something only becomes wet if it has touched water. Also, when you described the rummy nose as a goat...was that a reference, or just a weirdly specific description?
I... think I wanna build a hamster tank now :O Fish on the outside, cute mini-mammal in the middle. Probably something other than a Hamster though, they're biteys.
I wish that I could trust the stuff I find on the ground outside enough to put it in a tank. Unfortunately I live near the Tennessee River and who knows what pollutants are in the rocks and sticks that come out of it. Also, my favorite soup is Tomato, plus grilled cheese sandwich.
A very happy FTR everyone!! Wishing all a supremely awesome week!! Don't worry about touching grass if you have a planted tank, trim those instead🤣! ✌️ Chris! It was the valley of the end, where Naruto and Sasuke always got in the big bad fights. So disappointed you didn't remember. 😮💨🤣✌️ QotW; fav restaurant soup = ramen fav of my homemade soups = broccoli cheddar or fresh corn chowder in summer.
My rummynose tetras were very unhappy with a betta roommate. Had 3 rummynose in a 6 gallon. Added a betta. Checked on them that evening and I had 3 rummynose with a total of 4 eyes. Betta moved out. Tetras lived fine for several years. The one that still had both eyes was the king of the tank.
With the dead fish in the tank, same. I worked in pets at home (UK chain like petsmart) and every hour I had to go around the tanks to look for and remove dead fish, almost every hour there would be at least 3-4 dead ones
My favourite soup is one made at a local donut shop. The local Country Fresh Donuts is family owned and well known for their wonton soup! Yup. You read right. A donut shop known for it's wonton soup! This soup is so good that people drive an hour to get it. In 2013 a car drove through the restaurant and it was closed for many months. The tv station from a city an hour away came here after a few months and did a news story on how much locals were missing this soup! The day the restaurant reopened my daughter and her husband got off work at 3 am and decided it would be a good time to get the soup they had been missing since the accident and figured no one would be there at 3 am (it is a 24 hour donut shop). When they got there they were shocked to see that the line was out the door! THAT is my favourite soup
I get that most countries are behind on animal care. But in Finland you can't keep a male beta fish in less than 40liters (10,5 gallons) In the pet store I work at we aren't even allowed to sell a beta fish to less than 60liters (15,8 gallons) All our pet and fish stores are checked by officials combatting animal abuse and if we were caught selling to small tanks we wouldn't be allowed to call ourselves an ethical pet store (you get an ethical score from every checkup) and if you don't pass the store won't be allowed to sell fish/animals anymore. I know people can still lie, but we as employees are literally taught to fight with people trying to buy fish into too-small aquariums (which happens sadly weekly still) and we are not allowed to stray by even a gallon less than the needed amount. We are also very careful with what species of fish we allow the customers to buy and cohabitate including different sexes of fish. I really find this refreshing and while I do think there are things we can improve on, I really hope other countries take up this habit too.
something about watching these videos makes me oddly self concious of my aquascaping as if my 2 tanks arent a 20 long i just ripped apart to catch kuhli loaches from (also needs more sand bc in the process i dug up every stone used to hold down plants and its a cory/oto tank) so it looks. well ripped apart. and a 75 i literallly finished setting up yesterday that isnt even done being planted yet
I like making borscht with beets, red cabbage, red onions, purple carrots, blue potatoes...basically as much natural pigment as I can put into it. It tastes like...borscht, LOL... but the vivid purple color puts it over the top.
I saw the craziest fish tank at a pet store the other day, it was horrid. There were around 7 full grown, 5-6in fancy goldfish in what seemed to be a 20-25 gal tank. There was a goldfish that had no eyes, he literally had no eyes, not a single one. There was one goldfish who was stuck at the top of the tank, it’s a certain conduction with goldfish that I forgot the name of, but basically, it leaves the goldfish stuck at the top of the tank. That’s same goldfish also barely moved and would sometime just drift across the tank, bumping into the walls and drifting somewhere else on its side. There was another goldfish that had a good chunk of its wen missing. And there was another one that had a pebble stuck in its mouth. The rest seemed to be fine but they were all kept in the same 20-25 gal tank. With some other small tetras for some reason.
Favorite soup is called squash and sausage. Make it every fall. Ingredients change based on what’s in the house. Different squashes, potatoes, veggies, sausage, bacon chicken… you get the idea!
Favorite soup gotta be caldo verde. It's originally Portuguese but very popular here in Brasil too. It´s finely sliced collard greens and chunks of smoked pork sausage in a creamy potato and onion soup base, very nice for the colder months.

Fav soup: My Mom's ham and dumpling soup. You use the left over ham bits of a roast and make some nice, starchy, square dumplings. Mix that with potatoes, northern beans (or green beans), simmer in chicken stock, and voila. I great, thick, savory soup with tons of stuff in it, perfect for a cold day.
I just found out that you can open the display tank yourself and just yoink the fish if you really wanted to or the workers are just too lazy to lock them

Just upgraded my first tank (10 gal) to a 29 gal! Right now I have 2 platys and a swordtail (males). Stock ideas guys? I’m thinking more livebearers, chili rasboras and corys. And yes I have real plants 😊
Get yourself some cardinal tetras (they are similar to neons but hardier) don’t get any female livebearers they will make hybrids Get some purple harlequin rasbora they are amazing Get either a school of otocinclus or 2 or 3 hill stream loaches If you wanna get a dwarf gourami as a centrepiece get one they are beautiful and have big personalities And get probably around 30-40 cherry shrimp and about 5 amano shrimp Don’t have to these are just suggestions
Doesn’t that mean the layer for the aquatic part of the tank is extremely thin? Seeing as the distance of the end of the tank and the part where the hamster is sitting appears to only be a few inches wide 😩
Speaking of soup, I just made some that I was enjoying while watching. Clam chowder with sourdough bread. 4/5 score. Not my best, but definitely good stuff
I went and got my water wet before I typed this comment. I don't have a favorite soup, generally I don't like soup because it's such a damn hassle to eat.
That hamster video made me very, very confused. I think you're right that it's green screen shenanigans. QOTW: I'm at SOUP? - I'm not really a soup person. Sometimes my family makes a like... cream of corn/potato chowder-type thing with a bunch of veggies and bacon in it. That counts?
Chris in (whatever grade you guys learn to read in): GIVE ME MY COFFEE Also starting my 180l (47 gallon) tank, have the hardscape just gotta wait for the substrate and the plants and than the waiting game starts all over again to get fish T_T
I was wondering about that hamster but another thing I couldn't help but notice is the fact the tank has *goldfish* with a betta and some tetras... not a good combo (at least the tetras have nice-sized shoals tho) Masterful trick tho Beautiful pair of oscars, one in a million shot (at the very least!), but hope the tank is big enough for them both
Goldfish with tropicals is like...my pet peeve . Sure it can be done but the heat is bad for them. Speeds up their metabolism, shortens lifespan. Same with plecos in cold water tanks . Can be done but really not ideal in the long run.
7:45 They are commonly called "Snail"fish, (but they don't have a shell, used a shell, or commonly eat snails), it's due to them being slimy, gelatinous. if you Google " why are they called Snailfish?" basicly comes back with, due to there superficial resemblance to snails (with out a shell)? So they are Sluggish, a Snail with out a shell, is basically a Slug, they are Slugfish, rather than "Snail"fish.
Splash tetras are great! They look almost prehistoric with their large scales and big fins, very cute. I have bred them before. Or rather, they manage to do that just fine on their own as long as you keep males and females :P You need cover for them though. They jump. A lot. Like, you know those types of fish where they always have the written warning about them in articles and care pages about fish that they need a cover because they jump? This fish is worse. They literally breed by jumping, and will find every single way to kill themselves that way. I had to use duct tape in every single little place that they could find and escape through, and still they managed, somehow, to jump to their death. An absolutely amazing fish for any pauludarium that is not open concept, though :D

Happy Monday everyone so exited for the ftr
