A part of me understands casual people going from game to game: very few games are good enough to hook you.
To give you an example, I have over 320 hours in Doom 2016. I spent more time playing a fast paced arena twitch shooter than I played Skyrim, and I love Skyrim. From the day of release until I think late, late 2018 I never stopped playing the single player campaign. It was the good kind of addiction where I couldn't stop playing but I also had fun.
So when I picked up games I missed during the literal years that I stuck my head in Doom, I discovered that very few of them were as good. That's a thing with gaming nowadays that people don't see: there are far more games out there than there ever were, and the quality varies wildly. In the past, great games came out regularly simply because they had more space and time to breathe.
Like, people complain about Crash 4 being padded, and sure, that may be true, but if the core of the game is as good as everyone says, I'll play the shit out of that when it comes to PC. It's a true singleplayer game without crafting, with great graphics, with an amazing presentation, made by people who like video games.
Because really, what do we have to look forward to?

And sbmm is super prominent in games nowadays. I miss the days when it was genuinely random. Sometimes I'd get absolutely stomped. Sometimes I would kick ass. Now every game I get into im ALWASY middle of the score bored with lets say 12 kills and 11 deaths cause every game im playing against sweaty players I can't play casually anymore. In response I've noticed myself playing more single player games.

That's also an apt description of how the players treat each other since all they have to do is que up and the game finds other players for them. Bringing that concept into WoW is absolutely what killed it for many players. RDF slaughtered player interaction.

Finding people through chat and guilds required time and effort, making party members far less disposable and guilds important, leading people to actually socialize with each other. It was only before 3.3 that I'd met online friends in the game that I ended up exchanging Xmas gifts with in the mail, a foreign concept the later players. @@BornRemaining dude? Lol first off I’ve played the game since the beginning, Nov 2004, and I can tell you that WoW hype was at its peak when RDF came out. It offered the best of every world, you could be as hardcore or as casual as you wanted to be.
All RDF did was form the group for you, it didn’t do the dungeon. And one of the main vanilla developers said he wanted RDF in the game from the beginning, they just couldn’t get it in until 3.3

The death of couch co-op is driving my husband and I up a wall. We like playing RE5 together, but it gets old fast when we can't bounce between 2-4 games while avoiding the ones we don't like.
I've recently realized that the current problems in the gaming industry can basically all be traced back to FPS online multiplayers, sport simulators and moba/FaceBook "games". Every modern game I can think of and know anything about has suffered from trends created by those three genres. It's really fitting, though. They all already have the most cancer right on their surfaces to begin with.
FPS players aren't there for actual gaming; they're there to screech over the tactical shooty-bangs they can't do IRL. FPS players pioneered the notion that all players are expendable because of automatic queing and that there's no need to have decent interaction.
Sport-sim players also aren't even there because they're gamers; they want to play sports and feel like they're good at it without having to get off the couch. They treat their own games as disposable with the continuous new versions every year.
There's nothing more casual and vapid than moba, and they gave us normalized microtransactions.

I've played re5 many times, one thing you could do to extend its life is play thru the game on pro and don't use the shop between chapters and don't store items away. So you can only carry what you can carry thru the whole game. Sometimes you need to discard guns. It's a good challenge.

A big red flag is companies not listening to the communities i.e ignoring their fan-base for a specific franchise/genre. Because they know if they listen and make a game that people WANT, that WANT to be hooked on for hours on and end, a game that can go the distance of time will not make them the money as apposed to making a game, riding on it for a year or so then dumping it to make another. It's profit over longevity of a good solid game.

It's also extremely minimal and inflexible with mods, and even the few mods that do exist add little to nothing to the experience in comparison to the god-like shit you can play with in TTT.

I was wondering why I just stopped playing MP games a few years ago all of a sudden. Just completely dropped them one day, then I realized. MP games aren't fun anymore. Now games are just for the try-hards and the e-sports pros.
I was really shocked when I saw Infinity Ward going back to MW2 and nurfing stuff. The guys are such party poopers that they nurfed Model 1887 years after the game was relevant while ACR, Intervention and UMP were untouched (these 3 are completely broken in a good hands, especially on PC). Thus making the game less fun for people that liked running around instead of camping a corner. Essentially a decision to appease the vocal try-hards.

    • @F.M671

I remember times where there were bullshit op strats that outshone every other playstyle. People complained about it but at the end of the day ,nobody cared since everybody would employ them and "do a little trolling" now and then. Is it balanced? Fuck no, but is balance fun? Mediocrity? Stability? Those are not fun and yet all I can hear while talking about LoL or R6 is this word. Companies trying to balance their games is what's killing the MP games. To keep going you need to win now and then ,if you don't you ll simply burn out. We need to bring the good old tough luck mentality to replace the kiddo communities crying for nerfs.

Gaming isn't dying, multiplayer game player counts higher than ever before.
It's the fact that the attention span of casual players has become so short. If they don't like something they will move on really quick. There's also something to do with streamers, if their favourite streamer isn't playing a game, the casual will stop playing because they think that the game is a "dead game".
The fad of streamers playing the shit out of a game for couple weeks and then completely forgetting about them(they are riding the profitability of the game and then move on to the next profitable game) has only made attention spans even smaller. My first online game was Halo 3 it was simple enough to play but there’s was a huge skill gap between good and bad players which I loved. Recently I’ve grown tired of overwatch and COD, they’re not bad games but they all rely on cosmetics instead of content like making more maps and game modes. My go to games are now fighting games since I atleast know I won’t get defeated by a casual noob and they take lots of skill.

I have 0 suggestions for multiplayer or otherwise man. I havent had a game even excite me (you know that ever evasive feeling of "cant wait to get home to play this fucking game!") in six years or so. Its pathetic. Of course I dont have a perfect answer either as Ive been gaming since I was six years old back in '85' What the hell can be made that I havent played the hell out of or experienced in some way to death already? Then I think that is a shit thing to think because games only limitations is ones imagination which is limitless so how can there not be a game or games made that bring someone like me back in? I dont know man. It has just felt like "its over" for over half a fucking decade and my most beloved hobby outside of weight training is gone never to really come back in any meaningful way to me.
I have went as long as 18 months without touching a game this last gen (ps4) and never has that ever happened up until that point so I also dont want to hear "nostalgia chaser" or "you just got older" Fuck that! If it had been an age thing it most definitely would have happened long before I turned 35 six years ago for damn sure. Hell I didnt even buy a ps4 until halfway into 2015 because I saw the fucking writing on the wall and where gaming was heading towards the tail end of the 7th generation. Roughly 2012 or 2013 when it really hit that this was going in a direction that was utter shit and wasnt for me anymore even though Im part of the generation who supported gaming from its fucking infancy having the Atari 2600 as my first.
Another great vid. Lets you and I and others like minded get a time machine, go back and gatekeep THE MOTHER FUCK out of this hobby. Same with movies, music and comics LOL.

And now a lot of the community who actually engages with the rest of the community are pushing for the removal of skill based matchmaking... I feel like these people watch their favourite cracked streamer say "SBMM sucks, you guys! It's bad because something!", and then they all fall for it even though they will be on the receiving end. SBMM is literally the only way to TRY and chill today. But most games are absolutely littered with smurf accounts. I've been playing apex legends ranked with my friends for a few months and the majority of the time we get killed by a lvl 300+ team. Meaning each of them are at least lvl 300. And we are barely collectively 300 with our levels... You might ask yourself what lvl 300 people are doing in a rookie division lobby. Well, money. These people wouldn't be playing the game if they couldn't stomp lvl 5 noobs. These people pay for a power fantasy. And I just don't have the time or effort to play 12 hours of the exact same game every day. Which puts me in the basket of deplorables in all battle royales.
And people are generally just way more toxic and sweaty. If you aren't as good as them, they shit on you in team chat. Your enemies will use every single little advantage they can take, such as exploits or weapons that need nerfs. Not just sometimes, but EVERY TIME. Honour is dead.

Casual multiplayer is dead, and not only in just Halo. It's because there is a solid 35-45% of pc gamers using 3rd party software or hardware to gain an advantage so you have to sweat your literal fekn blood vessels off to play against literal cyborg players. It gets old and feels exhausting after a while. But if you point it out you're a part of the problem more so than those that are actually part of the problem. Even if you've grinded your a$$ off like I did in Hunt: Showdown and gained 7000 hours of actual skill. Because I am skilled enough to see and call out bullsh!t I am cursed to be hated. People are cheating nowadays just to be average, sadly. This is my truth I bare the burden of knowing, and I'll stand by it until the day I die.

And you're spot on with battle royale games. They're way to random yet for some stupid reason they're trying to make them competitive. Makes absolutely no sense. Fighting games could be worth taking a look into as I've played quite a few of them especially Tekken which I've put 1000s of hours into. The problem with fighting games those is that they tend to have really bad netcodes and getting into as a first timer can be a nightmare unless you play Smash Bros. and maybe Mortal Kombat. Really helps to have someone who already has some experience with them to help you learn them; they can be really rewarding if you do.

The problem is also the fact that a lot of the GOOD multiplayer games that are known have their servers shut down since a lot of people focus on latest & newest consoles instead. For example I had fun playing Killzone 2 Multiplayer on PS3 when the servers were still online. But once they were shut down, I became sad, because it was one of the few console online games I personally enjoyed playing. It's just a shame that a lot of people, especially game companies care less about their old/retro player base & only care about how much they can shove in the newest & modern thing down on people's throats. Unfortunately I got my PS3 during the PS4's launch, so I unfortunately missed out on the online experience that was more varied when 7th Gen consoles were still popular. Halo 3 online looked so much fun & because of that I wanted an XBOX 360, but the issue came with the fact that the online for XBOX 360 was pretty much that you had to pay for it just to play online. While PS3's online was & still is free which made me disappointed that Sony along with Nintendo years later decided to make the online play more money based, instead of it being free. Like a person already pays for the game & also pays bills which includes Wi-Fi, so why the hell they charge extra money just to play online now? It's sad how greed & fame has truly corrupted people in a negative way & it seems like it won't go away anytime soon.

Your brother has a point. As someone with over 3k hours in TF2 (nothing compared to some people, I know), that game is the answer to all your critisisms of modern games. I haven't laughed harder at random social interactions in any game than TF2, there are servers that run mods that completely overhaul gamemodes and maps, and it has one of the most creative, memey fanbases of any game, thanks to GMod/SFM animators.
TF2 also has an unexplainable tendency to have players of all different skill levels in most lobbies - you'll have the 35 killstreak Sniper God who's been playing since day one, and across the map you'll have some engineer who just installed the game setting up on the last point. It's honestly impressive how the game seems to always have a variety of skill levels.

Used to play Socom and did so for years. Never been an online shooter since. I miss those days.

    This video is still relevant.
Plenty of people in the comments lack the ability to see 3 feet in front of them.
    Wokeness is still ruining games.
Halo is sweaty af, especially when compared to the Reach days.
The new Battlefail 2042 game was heavily marketed to show off their rainbow character no one asked for.
It's gonna get worse because of many of you clapping seals digesting anything these AAA companies vomit up for you.
Thanks for supporting bad practices. These companies would struggle without you shills.
Casual gaming is dead (until further notice).

Hey, Synthetic sir would you like split screen in new games? I ask because I feel the same about it, miss it and I feel that it has more relevance today since the pandemic forces siblings to share.

It saved my life and kept me from suicide many times. And now it makes me sick how bad it is and my hearts breaks more everyday and the depression is coming back...

Rising storm 2 Vietnam for a good FPS that can be played casual or hardcore, might be dying and old but has a solid player base.

Fam, what you want is to pivot to good single player and co-op focused Games. The golden area of casual-competitive multiplier (Halo 3 - MW2 - BO2/Reach Era) is gone for now, frankly. While Publishers and Developers are experimenting with payment models etc. the situation is gonna be in flux. Also it comes down to getting older, dunno if we're around the same age, but for me, being 24 now and not having a concentrated friend group limits how you can engage with these multiplayers Games. Honestly it sounds like you got fractions of what you were looking for with Siege and a bit of COD. And personally, the closest I've had to the old days, specifically in the FPS genre, is getting a couple friends together to run funny in CS:GO experimenting with Guns and not trying so hard.
    but ultimately...
Minecraft, Valheim and a bunch of ARPG's (Torchlight 2, Diablo, POE, Borderlands etc.) fill the void of the casual-yet engaging experience. For now, we just gotta dip out and wait for FPS multiplayer to sort itself out and accept that the vibe has drifted elsewhere and thank fuck for the Indie Game scene which is picking up the copious amounts of slack from AAA. But also when a Game DOES come along that does all these things SUPPORT IT. Titanfall 2 should have been a bonified classic but the audience wasn't there. We let it down and now, Respawn has pivoted to BR with Apex. So it's equal blame on Player's and Developer's IMO. But overall I encourage you to find something you're looking for within different genres that scratch that itch, even if they're not quite FPS.
Btw, as an aside, I was enjoying the rant up until the cringey SJW/Black trans comments that make you come off as a typical sour Gamer boy. 'more diverse than it should have been' - what does that even mean, bruh?? Just saying, comments like these make you look dumb, which I know ain't your intention, so probably button up that sorta stuff. But that's just my reaction and I mean no hate meant. Others might chastise you for such comments though. Feels very '2014' and dated. young-Boomer esc-vibes.

On Xbox, split-screen actually isn't dead--it's the only form of multiplayer offered by 99% of games. Vast majority of Xbox titles these days have local co-op only. And yet, Microsoft doesn't have the technology to make a tool that allows us to play local co-op online? Nintendo did this years ago with their older NES and SNES titles, and it works flawlessly with no lag. I'm just saying, split-screen is great, but if that's all developers are gonna do, we need a way to play split-screen online.

Face it. The industry is in the trash. I say it all the time, if you are a certain age and you remember what used to be, these companies view us not apart of their key demographics. If you play, cool, if not, they will gain another customer to replace you. We know how to change the landscape, but most people are afraid to not only speak out on the crap, but they adhere to the fuckery. They roll over and settle for less. I hear "dont like it dont play it" but heaven forbid if you have an opinion against something a mass amount of people like. Its crazy. You hit home with the destiny gun nerf. I was a suros fan, they nerfed it, I left the game. That was the only gun I felt comfortable with. 🤷
