She kept herself restrained and respectful when that beehive image came up but you could tell that she was really struggling with having it shown to her. That's a genuine phobia right there. I tip my hat off to her for her composure; most people would have lost their shit upon having their phobia put in front of them.

I understand that people have strange phobias. I myself am afraid of animatronics. Especially dinosaurs types but foil and holes I just can't wrap my head around it.

I agree but it can still be funny. I have snake phobia I can't even see a picture of a snake but if I'm watching a movie and a snake appears, in the moment i will scream and jump and cry and turn my back to the screen all at the same time, and then i will laugh my ass of at my reaction. I mean it's not like PTSD triggers, simple phobias are scary on the moment but then you can laugh at yourself. This being said...not great indeed that they showed her that big picture without a warning. But not utterly scandalous either

I personally found it to be kind of jerky of Ellen to show Sarah Paulson the things that she has phobias of. Especially since they had been talking about her phobias--setting someone off like that for a joke is never funny.
The best part of this was the sound she made when she saw the beehive, that's the #1 sound I make/hear others make when their trypophobia is triggered.

Well... i guess if they showed her looking at the coral they just filmed her. The coral wasn't needed in the shot so it wasn't actually there anymore.

You have no idea how sorry I am for the people facing all those catastrophes, it's truly horrifying! I watched a lot of videos/pictures with tears in my eyes and I salute to all the people who fought for their lives and to the ones who helped others in need. But I'm not commenting on a video from Mexico saying "Poor them, but do you know who got it worse? Sarah Paulson on ahs, cause she is facing all her real life phobias, that's horrifying!" I've had trypophobia for years and for me it's when you can't see through to the other side...lattice or something like that I have no problem, but something with holes, sometimes even just one, that seem endless...I actually start to panic, it's quite miserable.
Good on her for responding so well to be showing that hive. I would have left. The effects of seeing those images are very unpleasant. This is a true phobia and I’ve had it for as long as I can remember.

Thanks to this show, I'm slowly realizing my trypophobia... some of the shots in the show makes me gag a little bit, and that one shot Ellen showed freaked me out too.

Trypophobia is not a trend. It is real and I suspect quite common. I've had it all my life and to have found a word for it was liberating. Not all holes affect me but irregularities and textures do. At least i am aware of it and *try* to avoid seeing such things but sometimes Nature cannot help itself. eg; I always sat on the left side of one of my friends because he had a cluster of huge blackheads (pore strips stood no chance) on the right side of his jawline and it grossed me out. Nauseated me. Other things - woodworm, definitely lotuses, large pores and acne scarring, which i have and have been working on it with dermapen treatments which ironically, plant 1000s of holes into your skin in an effort to induce collagen production and thus healing.
Oh, and the sight of tripe in a butcher's window sends me to a back alley to throw my guts up and it is not because it is tripe.

I have that same fear! When the bee hive popped up, I put my hand over the screen! Lol it disgusts me so much and it's even worse when there's holes on skin, or even anything irregular on the skin freaks me out. Ugh.

Kelsey Cooke I saw an animal with eggs on its back in a video game, instantly broke down in tears and had my son slap the hell out of my back until the sensation and anxiety went away. He was only 6. Slap the hell out of my back though...thankfully lol. Was red for days!

Trypophobia IS a real condition. Most people who have it including myself, never really understood it until recently. People with Trypophobia experience it differently. In my experience with it my skin feels tingly, I get nausea, and a very strong uncomfortable feeling. Like my skin is crawling. I begin to itch, and have strong feelings of fear and anxiety. I've always felt it whenever I have come across certain images or items with holes. My worst was a bowl of decorative balls in a bowl at my bff' s house. The bowl has a bunch of small medium and large wooden like balls made to be a center piece for a large dining room table. I went to move it off to the side, and immediately felt very uncomfortable and filled with anxiety and fear. There are a lot of people who don't believe this is an actual condition. Unless you have experienced it you have no idea the terror it and anxiety we go through. Just image how your fear right in front of you!

I remember being a little kid and getting anxious and nauseous looking at the clusters of holes in my bedroom's drywall (like, from the air bubbles). Obviously at 6 years old I didn't pick up this phobia on social media lol. People just dismiss what they don't understand

For me is she one of the funniest women on the Planet but i saw all 7 Seasons of American Horror Storie and she was the best actress in this Series! Some scientists think it's just a remnant of the evolutionary process. It's just horrible though and yes I know, totally irrational that's what makes it a phobia! 😳

Oddly, how they styled her hair in the show reminded me of Coraline's mom's hairstyle in the movie. Which gave that additional eerie look for the show and I loved it.

When I see photos of holes, I get a shiver through my body and I stop breathing for a second and feel so uncomfortable. So I hate when people say doctors don't consider it a phobia.
It seems like no one knew that trypophobia was a thing until the internet made it so a couple of years ago and now every second person reckons they're scared of it. It's like how everyone conditioned themselves to be repulsed by the word 'moist' - because the people around them suggested they should be.

I too suffer from trypophobia, although it's not as severe as Sarah Paulson's seems to be. But I have a hard time looking closely at beehives and such because of the repetitive pattern or clustering of small holes. I don't run away from these images. I just try not to look at them at all. It's very real.
