I’ve spent most my life absolutely enamored by folks such as yourself. my idols growing up were sergeant first class Randy Shughart and Master sergeant Gary Gordan . I never had the honor of serving this country and my heart goes out to all of those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom . I’m so grateful for you and your peers who’ve decided to break that barrier and teach us citizens valuable life skills on and off the range. Same philosophy on knife and light here, but even if unloading a pistol (or two) before placing it on that shelf will (somewhat) diminish the danger of it being used against you by a home invader, it’s still an inviting candidate for smash and grab theft by placing it next to a windowed door leading to outside. Maybe a wall mounted thumbprint safe right there is the way to go.
    Me, every gun but one hidden one is locked up if it isn’t on my belt for home carry or staged nearby (AR-15) or unless I’m dry firing and drilling its functions throughout the day as I work on my computer.

      @@ifyahadone Scenario: It is nighttime, you are approached by a suspicious individual in a parking lot. It is very disorienting to suddenly and unexpectedly be flashed with a bright light at night. This allows you to gain control over the situation and figure out what they want without using any force against the other person, in case they meant you no harm. If the person was trying to hurt you, the sudden flash can briefly blind the person and give you precious seconds to quickly strike them and then boogie on out of there, hopefully without having to draw your weapon. Always enjoy learning others EDC choices! While I carry a gun every day, I also carry an IFAK. I wear slim fit pants and can’t do the ankle holsters. I’ve found that KUHL pants work perfectly, they have what they call a “stealth cell phone pocket” on the side of the pants. It’s an open top pocket that is very minimalistic and you can hardly see it. I carry a pair of micro chest seals in one, and the other one a CAT tourniquet, Celox rapid hemostatic gauze, decompression needle, and 2 pairs of nitrile gloves, all held together by ranger band. You can’t see them, they don’t make the pants bulk out like cargo pants, and I forget they’re even there. Nice to have in case something happens, because hey life happens. Chances are small that it will be from an attacker or self defense situation, far more likely to need IFAK gear than a gun in every day life: car accidents, outdoor activities, power tools, etc. Needing first aid trauma gear is far more likely than needing a gun. I carry both and am trained with both. Just my $0.02 on what works for me!

    That system makes sense. How many times can you remove a round from the chamber and then re-chamber that same round before the bullet is seated too deep causing pressure issues?
    Also, neo-mag carriers (a good idea) and automatic/mechanical/metal watches don't mix. The exception are watches designed for use in strong magnetic fields. Omega and Sinn (especially Sinn) exhibit some really impressive specs. When standing in a relaxed posture, (unless your knuckles drag on the ground) your watch will rest right about where these exceptionally strong magnets are. You'll need to de-gauss the watch after a while, not a big deal. A magnetized watch won't keep accurate time. I pity the fool who tries to break into your place, Pat.

      I have seen some bullet setback with just 2 chamberings and I have seen some go as much as 20 without any at all. I "Usually" will only chamber a round no more than 6 to 7 times then I will shoot it at my next practice day.
      I do a bit different than Mr. Pat, I keep my Pistol loaded until I clean it up once a week or go out for practice.
      I know some will have a different way and honestly not just one way is right, so I hope this helps a little. Have a good day 🤘🏼

    The shelf is a good ideal, except, I wouldn't keep my blaster there. What happens when an intruder busts in that door, or slowly opens it, and bam, they're introduced to a firearm immediately on a shelf. I'd also recommend keeping one in the chamber, even at home (or, especially).

  • @NinjaSushi2
    @NinjaSushi2 2 года назад

    I think people forget about how useful a light is in a tactical situation. If you don't have access to a firearm or you don't want to escalate a situation to that level a really bright flashlight is one hell of a deterrent. You can just blind the hell out of somebody and get the hell out of there before you catch lead or charges.

    Sargeant Major, question, doesn't leaving firearms at the door, especially a glass insert door make it easier for home invaders, others who go bump in the night? Also, as the head of your own security detail, haven't you just given those of low morals a headsup as to what is where in your lair? Or do you as a humanitarian gesture want to give them a fighting chance?

      @@CoenradJMorgan If you're passing a don't know who the dude is, then you're unlikely to go in scared. He may have just put the guns there for the video and could keep them elsewhere normally. I don't necessarily agree with his philosophy generally, and he may not be the best person to take advice from in this regard. I am confident in my ability to fight (grappling since I was a kid (BJJ, wrestling, etc.), several years of boxing and Muay Thai), but I still carry a fixed blade knife that I can incorporate if I absolutely need to, usually in the Shivworks methodology. There's always someone out there who is a bigger fish and there's always circumstances in which you can be put at a disadvantage; a force multiplier can negate the advantage. Anyway, I agree with your assessment.

    My EDC is eerily similar! For both my G19 and G43, I like the Q series minimalist holster. One caveat to those is that when you come back from the range, they are very warm when you put the gun back in next to your body. Other than that, it would increase safety because you can clear the weapon without it coming out of the holster. I am going to get some O rings just after seeing that nifty trick. I carry a Amazon cheapo WowTac flashlight that is super tiny, but kicks out a LOT of Lumens and has a magnetic backend so I can stick it to my hood when I am working on my car. I was thinking about moving to a fixed blade vs lockblade, I have to weigh the pros and cons. I like the window breaker/seatbelt cutter I have now. Very cool! thanks for sharing!

    Maybe I’m misunderstanding this, but do you unload your weapon and leave it on the shelf when you come home? The reason I ask is, say you’re in the bathroom or the bedroom and someone breaks that glass on your door and unlocks your deadbolt, they have a weapon that’s loaded right there on the shelf. They can break in with a knife but you just gave them a gun with a 15 round magazine. What am I missing?

    So what do you do for home protection if you unload your gun at night and why do you do that? The round you take out of the chamber each day and then put back into the top of the mag gets forced into the chamber on a daily basis which eventually forced the bullets into the case which will cause higher pressure or a malfunction.
