    I love it, but you lost me at few points and it frustrates me. At certain moments, you say bring main view out and I can hear keypresses, but dont know what you pressed. Also, when you are doing the work with qualifier you somehow switch the view so that you dont see the grey area, even though in the node view you can see it, you again press some key combination, but I have no idea what you did:( Maybe just add a small text on the screen of what shortcuts you are pushing, so even the big noobs can follow you. Other than that its perfect, no talking around and really informative - even though I didnt manage to even remotely get the result you got:D

    Anyone else not like the look of color grades, and just like it when the image is color balanced naturally?

    • @MattFaris
      @MattFaris 4 года назад

      I know what you mean. Really depends on what you are trying to achieve I guess. Just think that something like this teal look gives you another dimension to your storytelling. Just enables you to add that different context to the world you are creating through film. Sometimes though, something that is just balanced does the job.

    • @krystiankoson2218
      @krystiankoson2218 3 месяца назад

      After 5 years probably You know that, but for others i will complete what Matt said. Storytelling. In "The Matrix" colors tells us about where we are: Matrix or the Real World. Ones shots were green, ones were blue. It cinematographic (do not confuse with "just" videographic) it is not important to show truth and reproduce the real colors. Color grading is another way to tell something more, to put You in the mood of character, to separate You from the rest of the story or to rejoin with. It is not the wedding photography. Or it is? ;-)

    Because of your videos I just downloaded davinci resolve :D
    Where did you learn this stuff? :P

    • @averypeck
      @averypeck  6 лет назад +22

      Malte Thanks man! I'm self taught; started learning film about 7-8 years ago. Most of the learning process was slowly gaining knowledge online and trying to replicate other artists to learn their strategies. Personally, I think it's one of the fastest ways to learn, since it forces you to problem solve. Most of learning Resolve is developing your visual and creative skills; the technical stuff will come naturally along the way!

    • @malte5982
      @malte5982 6 лет назад

      Thanks! Ok, I am learning online for one year now :-) Do you have any tips? From which artists do I learn the most?

    • @averypeck
      @averypeck  6 лет назад +21

      Pick any artist you like really; each artist offers their own style, and along with that comes a workflow to create that style. Fincher is one of my favorites personally. The ultimate goal is to take what's in your head, and know how to put that on the screen. So if there's someone already out there creating imagery that speaks to you, do everything you can to figure out how they create it. Behind the scenes footage, interviews, stills from their films (you can head over to filmgrab . com), etc. You'll start to uncover new techniques, and soon you'll have a "database" of workflows that match up with a database of images in your head. I'd encourage you to pick a single still frame that you like, and recreate as closely as possible. Notice the direction and quality of the lighting, the color grading, the wardrobe and set design, the position and angle of the camera, framing, lens choices, etc. Because eventually, when a writer or client hands you a script and asks "What are you thinking of for this?", now you'll be prepared. Hope that helps!

    • @malte5982
      @malte5982 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks a lot mate! Till now I am not that much into movies but more into event- or musicvideos. One of my favorite artists is Sam Kolder, I love his style. I already tried to lern his techniques and tried to create my own style. Maybe tomorrow I will try to recreate one of his shots in detail :-)

      @averypeck  4 года назад

    • @iSportZone
      @iSportZone 4 года назад

But you're teaching me what I'm doing wrong and the correct way to do it. Not only that, but you're teaching me how to think like a colorist as well. When you start learning the art of coloring footage it becomes quit a beautiful process. Before it was something I used to dread. You've entirely changed the way I view color grading for the better. No more creative luts for me. I'm going to control the image to my creative liking now. Thank you so much man. • @filippopantaleoni8503
      @filippopantaleoni8503 4 года назад +2

      The Lum Mix is a control that allows Resolve to balance the luminance around the changes you're doing over the simple channels which are colors. By turning it down he's sure to touch just the colour without affecting the Luma, since, at least in this tutorial, he doesn't care about Balancing the Y Channel (Which is Luminance)

    My name is Jonathan Trauner. I will be 30 this May 15th 2024 in Jerusalem. I work at Mobileye in Jerusalem. I have Autism. I am a poet artist and performing artist and I love Gal Gadot and Taylor Swift. On June 18th 2023, I got hit by a huge tour bus and I only broke my left collarbone and did not die. I finished recovering end of August 2023 and my bone returned back to normal and to a completely unbroken unified state beginning of December 2023. My greatest dream come true is to become the first openly autistic poet performing artist and artist with Autism to win my Emmy Grammy Oscar and Tony film and acting awards in Los Angeles California in 2025, or in 2028 at the 100th Academy Awards. #NEVERGIVEUP

    So, I’m new to this whole grading thing so my question Calls that out. Does the layer follow the moving figure? When I see grading done, I’ve only seen it happen on static shots. In my newbie mind, I keep thinking that I’ll have to do a key frame to have the grade follow the subject and that would be stupid. I know. Thanks for this great video!
