yeah i didnt like this flick. wasnt scary or really that interesting to me, which is a shame cause I really wanted to like it. I guess im really desensitized to horror now, it takes a lot to even creep me out anymore lol
+Soopa Fly So I haven't seen this movie yet. But I guess it's not going for straight forward horror. I don't like horror (I actually don't even think it's scary) but I've been watching Del Toro's spanish movies and Let the Right one in and I kinda loved those. This one is next on the list.
Director JA Bayona delivers A masterfully crafted, scary, stylish & realistic gothic horror film that is one of the best films made. (100%) (5/5 stars) (positive)
regarding the remake, I read that Del Toro is going to try to make it "closer to his original concept" for the story, so it actually might be a valid exercise.
I loved this it was so creepy. It was a long time since i was really creeped out by a film and this one really did the job. its a shame they didnt do it in english
thanks "badhead"
Always a good place to come for Kermode reviews...
Cant believe he spoiled Ring again during an apology for spoiling Ring!

Watching this tonight! Been looking for a solid horror movie for a while now, i hope this is it 😃

The poem is by Yeats.
I've been studying it for my As and As retakes for the last 2 years, it was actually the poem in the exam paper for the retake
3:10 "In Cannes, nobody's anybody - other than Harvey"...did he mean Weinstein?
Yes, he did.... this was 13 years ago, or so.
I only know that poem because of Torchwood
I love Pingu
Is there a discussion comparing this with Saint Ange (House of Voices) - a French movie that is also set in an orphanage?
I thought the Orphanage was okay. Wasn't blown over by it really, it was alright.
Un dos tres toca la pared,
Mankind081 Still sends chills down my spine.

Luddite = Philistine? :)
Easy mistake to make.
I found The Orphanage quite dull. A bit like The Others but no where near as good.
