Honestly. The old gen games have something the newer ones don't have. It's what makes me come back to them rather than the 5th gen. It can't be nostalgia either because I'm -shamefully- also rather new to the series. It's more fun. More challenge. More content, just all of those things combined for me. Frontier's my absolute favorite in the whole entire franchise.
@@theazureeyedaassassin885 not so very scary when you're used to it, but definitely more exciting than the newer gens in terms of difficulty yeah :) The AI is way more punishing
@@MogreciousMalone the QOL is amazing in 5th gen, but Frontier is where they got these from. Matter of fact, frontier has some QoL stuff that's still not in mainline right now which I absolutely adore (for example shortcut buttons when accessing the town itemchest to quick-select between 4 itemsets with rb/lb 1/2)
The approach is different, the older games are much slower and are more methodical making every hit count and have an emphasis on preparation due to its more complex armour system limited use items(whetstones, pickaxes and bug nets being limited and taking item space)and no tents or restocking lean more into the RPG side, World and especially Sunbreak lean more into faster paced action which makes sense, the games are still action RPGs just the focus shifted.
After filling the valor gauge, the beginning of the dual sword dash has a guard point that triggers an attack, you can see this by the visual effect used at the beginning of the dash, every guard point in MHGU uses that visual effect ;)
I started with Monster Hunter Freedom Unite back in the psp day, so I got to see the QoL slowly come on into the games. It’s nice to see gameplay and hear your thoughts coming from MH World back into the previous MH games.
I started with world as well, so getting used to the older games did take a hot minute. Now that I have though? I absolutely love the lot of them. GU was my first Non world mh title and it was an absolute blast.
As a player since 3U, I love it when newbie World players go back to check out the older titles especially GU. MHGU is just so fucking fun and it brings me such joy when someone discovers it for the first time. Have fun in G-Rank!
Obviously you gotta play up to G rank. GU is peak Monster Hunter, its worth the journey. There's something special about the old gen games that makes you feel like you somehow belong in that world. Idk, maybe its nostalgia. Simply put, playing through XX with my best friend at he time was and still is my favorite video game memory.
Aye welcome brother, shoot ive recently restarted to rekindled my love also when I get tired of sunbreak I play some GU, i plan to climb to G rank this time around with a single weapon. Glad to see new player's trying the older. I started in 4U.
I picked up multiple Monster Hunter games around the same time, but I mostly started out playing Rise. There's a lot that I love about Rise, but after playing it for several hours I wanted to switch over to the other games I had bought to give them some attention, and I'm not gonna lie, 4 Ultimate is my favorite game in the series so far. It's challenging, the monster roster is great, the combat may be simpler than Rise but it's still super fun, even some of the things that make it feel "old" I like. I like the segmented maps, I like having to stand still to take items (the trade off is you take items faster than in World and Rise), I like using paintballs, I like having to plan my loadout before a hunt and not having camp to fall back on, I like the challenge. World and Rise aren't bad, they're excellent games in their own right, but there's just something I love about 4 Ultimate.
Cat creation can have some good depth in GU, spoken as I've spent days making some people specific cats on my main save Cat builds are just as variable as hunter builds, and the fun part is Prowler mode - definitely fun and worth checking out in LR/HR
Mhgu fighting is more similar to world fighting than any other mh. Imo as a charge blade user. It starts to change drastically with mh freedome and mh3.
If your valor gauge are full red, press both X and A perform a Blade Dance, it does give you demon mode just a few seconds. Also, 6 styles has their own advantages and they can be fun as heck. If ya wanted to find out more, go check the controller and it for every weapons along with 6 styles tutorial, instead of training quest. So yeah, dual blade does has demon mode but few of them are remove, in strike, it give you demon mode but no demon gauge.
Another tip for valor style, if you want do something faster gain red gauge of valor, you press y when in long sheated animation and press X or A or R or X+A (some of them has) immediately to fill valor gauge faster. Some Weapons Faster Valor Gauge that is Great Sword, Hammer and HH (Maybe), Charge Blade, and HBG. A quick tip, you still use Charge Attack of GS in Long Sheated before press and hold X, Once it's filled into Red Gauge, you can move anywhere and holding X which lead you to quick charge level 2. If you don't move around and holding X its give you blue charge level, a powerful one.
Got a new mic so hopefully the audio balancing will be easier the next time. There were times when i'd lean back away from the mic or lean too close to it and blow it up lol.
Heres a helpful tip for how armour skills work, you need 10 points in a skill minimum for it to be active. Full sets are the way to go until you get into mixed sets. I advise looking up how to make mixed sets :)
Tbh I appreciate the older games but world just has an unrivaled sense of detail that can only come with modern hardware. I am still a sucker for the older games content tho.
as newb: read hunter note > weapon tutorial in the menu. if you don't want to see any youtube tutorial. still don't understand why people who's new to the game(any game) never tried to explore the menu first.
The Valor Dual Blades are incredible for their parry at the beginning of the sprint when powered up. So just go into Valor mode and press r1 right before being hit and you'll take no damage and even damage the monster, bonkers weapons
Ngl the first-time using Valor I'm so confuse since I'm missing a few crucial combos at first, took me a while to get used to it and learning from guide video and all.
well, if you new to GU. everything is much easier with Prowler mode (reduces so much grind), especially bomber cats because they have adept dodge. it's also the esiest to fill up the support gauge among all types. by just throwing bombs. Block Cats if you prefers adept block. Fighting cats if you prefers mounting. Collect/Support/Healer cats if you prefers ranged attack, the hard parts is searching the cats with the right skills and moves
