  • The Historical ten-foot skiffs of the Australian Historical Sailing Skiff Association hold an annual Australian Championship, and have done since the early 1990's, alternately in New South Wales and Queensland. This year it was Queensland's turn and 3 boats from NSW and 5 from Queenslan=d fronted for racing on the Brisbane River at Bulimba from 29 April to 3 May. Ian Smith the founder of this Channel also happens to be the President of the AHSSA, and flew up from Sydney for the day to join in the festivities and film the 4th and final heat. Held in a difficult Westerly breeze and a big ebb tide, the race provided a few surprises.

Fun yes, but very tricky sailing with fluctuating breeze and strong tidal flow. That’s the Brisbane River for you!
