Our police dept has a public location where you can meet people for buyers to meet sellers.

I can add two tipps: 1. Offer multiple items at one time (still one post for each). It's easier to manage and there is a chance that some people are interested in multiple things especially if the things belong to the same room (e.g. several kitchen items). 2. Look at the wording of the interested persons. If they write something like "Is IT still available?" instead of asking for the actual thing, chances are that they are (semi-)professional resellers who are in my experience more aggressive in haggling. As Mia Danielle said: "Stay your ground." :-)

I hate to do it but I write first come first serve bc people say they’re interested, but can’t pick it up til the weekend or whatever, then don’t come or respond on the weekend. It puts people without more free time and a car at a disadvantage but if you want something you have to come get it. I’ve went in order of who asked first even though others were willing to pick it up earlier.
A problem I have is things sell for ridiculously low to near free. I don’t know how other people get anything sold without waiting long periods of time, but I’m better off donating it bc no one comes even if I price say a gently used pizza maker or ice cream machine for $5

I have had good luck selling several years in a row now. I've been able to gather about $8000 each year these last few years. And that's just a rough estimate. I have collected mainly smaller items and antique furnitures (stuff) for years and years so it's nice to sell the items that I no longer want or need and give them new homes. I sell items each week and I am so so grateful! Some days are more difficult than others. Some people are rude, not on time or don't show up at all or don't hold their end of the deal. Selling the items is a lot of work, it's tiresome and it steels alot of time and energy. Getting well payed is really a great feeling, but sometimes getting rid of the item itself can be its own reward. Even though you sell it at a lower price. I've been lucky many times selling items for maybe ten times what I payed for it myself (more often from my antique collection). Other times I've been payed in trippel what others have sold their identical items for in the same market place. Some times I have been payed less than I wanted to, but sold it just to free up some space. I consider myself lucky mostly, but some things like furnitures are a real hassle.. From my own experience I would agree to that taking good pictures are important. Give all the information you can about the item, both good and bad. Make sure your information is correct so you're not responsible for any wrong information so that they (buyers) will not be able to complain on anything after receiving the item. Some people (mostly people are nice and honest) will take their opportunity to complaint and ask for a refund. This can prove to become a real stressful situation otherwise if your are not careful. Take money in front if its being shipped and remember to take charged for the shipping (+ taxes/fees and handling/any additional costs like wrapping, bus etc). Make sure you have the money in your account before packing the item(s) and before the actual shipping of the items(s). Be careful to wrap it carefully and make sure you have everything well wrapped in suitable wrapping like bubblewrap, paper, polystyrene and a sturdy box. Depending on the item that's being shipped of course. I myself often make money from wrapping and the handling. Included in the freight price can be that I take more for the items when the buyers can't collect the items themselves but would rather have me shipping it to them. Mostly I find that the buyers are willing to pay more for this service. Shipping itself can be time consuming and more difficult than its worth, but mostly it's necessary since I otherwise would not be able to sell as much since the buyer most often live further away from me. Sometimes I don't take anything for the handling/wrapping (free collected wrapping) just because the buyer is not willing to pay as much. Again, sometimes it's better to just sell for less money and work extra for less money than it is to not sell at all. I have had items for sale for years and years at a time before finally being able to get a buyer for the item. Some items can prove to be more difficult to sell, even with a give away price. Sometimes driving the price up can help, which in my case I've experienced more than once. Finding the "right" buyer can also be a thing, no matter the price. My prices are usually really high so that I can see just how much of a interest there is for that item and so that there is room if someone feels like they want to haggle the price. Sometimes I've been payed way more than what I myself feel the item is actually worth, just because the person don't like to haggle or don't care that it's kinda pricey. Mostly I find people haggle though. It can be hard to find the right price if one can't find a similar item out there to compare it to, so pricing it up can be the best solution. Putting up the possibility for a bidding round is not something I have lucky with. Either Noone bids or someone gives you a giveaway/super low offer.

Wow, that's awesome! The only time I sold in the thousands was during a move- the rest of the time I just don't have that much to sell. Great tips 👍

      @@MiaDanielle Thank you 😇
I've just been collecting, never thought about the consequences of holding on to things really. Then something changed within me, I felt I had to change my interior to something more simplistic and modern. I dismantled and threw away a large broken antique cabinet and from then on it just took off.
I have to mention that I have also taken in stuff from about five of my neighbors and my mother and her husband whenever they where getting rid of something. Stuff given to me to do whatever I wanted to do with it, that I've both sold and given away. I still have several items left from them, that's up for sale.
Of course, I have many many items left from my own collections and wrong doing (things I bought but didn't actually want, need or even like). These smaller items I have stored in air tight boxes until they are sold. I have my own storage rooms in my basement so they're not so much in the way. But I do long for the feeling of freedom when they are all sold or in some cases given away to new homes. It's good to know, even though it can be a burden, that the items give me a side hustle and money on the side. It's weird, after several years of selling, I get anxious whenever I don't sell something. But I've been able to get several sales every week for about three years or so in a row now. Ever since I started my minimalism journey. Except from holidays when people are on vacations and so forth. Then it gets Slow. I can only hope to sell as much as possible in the year(s) to come. I feel a certain freedom every time I sell something, but more so when it's something big. I have about a 1000 ads out there, but I think I have about 10 000 items left for sale, if not more.

Hi Mia, Your video was good but also disheartening for me because I have so much stuff to sell - literally maybe $2,000 worth between my apartment and my storage and all of it is in excellent condition from pet products brand new, never opened to saxophones that were never used, etc!
A Beautiful Christmas tree, exercise equipment, dishes, tons of stuff and I haven't had a bite.
Practically everything I have is brand new, never opened, or used once!
A few people saying they wanted something and like you said, haggling and or ghosting, and now I just don't even know what to do. I even paid for extra exposure and nothing!
So I'm feeling really down and don't know what to do and wonder if I should just give all of this great, awesome stuff to the salvation army?

I’ve had mixed results but do try to price a few bucks lower if there are very similar items. I want the things gone, so my philosophy is price it so there’s an incentive for someone to come and get it soon. Sometimes I have had 4 who want to buy and hoping the first one no shows. That said, no shows are real and such a time waster. Thanks for your tips Mia. I’ve never tried selling clothes but might try Poshmark.

I get people messaging me saying "I'm going to send you a Google code to make sure you're real". I've read this is scammers trying to piggy back off your phone number. I'm not a scammer so I'm not sure why they are doing this. It happens on every platform. All of this makes selling more trouble than it's worth now. I've just decided to donate everything. I already wasted the money, time to move on. And now I'm not buying more stuff to replace the stuff. Lesson learned.

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 года назад +2

yeah, I've never heard of the Google code thing but I definitely wouldn't do that. Sorry you've had such rough luck with selling things. I do agree that donating is the easiest (and usually preferred) way to go!

I'm too introverted or cautious to risk having strangers call or come to my home, so I first ask friends and/or neighbors if they know of anyone who would like to have whatever it is that I am letting go of. Every piece of furniture that I no longer needed has gone to someone who wanted it but probably could not afford to buy it. If I can't find anyone that way, I do take things such as dishes or pots and pans etc. to my local Salvation Army. I have also set things out on trash day, and it's rare that it is still there by the time the trash is picked up. I loved your explanations of how aspects of the sale can be done more or less safely. It was really good information for people who don't mind going through the necessary steps to sell their stuff.

@@ksk881 I’m single and live alone, so I understand your concern. I sell a few things on marketplace but I put them in my garage near the overhead door and when the people arrive, I open the door and go out there. Some people do “porch pickup” where they leave cash in envelope under door mat. If I lived in apartment, I would only use consignment shops. P.s. in my area, police depts encourage you to meet in their parking lot where security cameras are plentiful

Don’t sell on eBay. Someone said if a customer complains… YOU LOSE!!! You lose the money and the item cuz they don’t have to send it back.
