Hi Fred, love the cb related vids, I was an old school breaker back in the 80s, got myself a 6900, at the moment setting up a base station, keep up the good work buddy
I would suggest having a look at facebook radio groups like Charlie tango and see if there are people around you area. SSB is right across Europe in the summer.
fredintheshed1 I looked through the list earlier. Obviously fair few of the lower numbers I remember from years ago. Don't seem many in Southampton or Hampshire. I don't live in the same area now. Used to live in one of the highest points in Southampton. Used to speak to a net from Gloucester every morning and further. Maybe down the line get one in the car. I used hit the hills evert Sunday morning. I'll keep watching ;-) :-)
Hi Fred thanks for the advice now the letters make sense I’ll check it tomorrow. I’ve been checking the swr regularly all seemed ok but thanks I’ll look at it. 73s.
I prefer my 6900 to my 9900 I just like the old skool look and controls, has a much better receive and is proving to be a better rig so far, can’t fault the 6900 great value and a beast of a rig for the money
Fred in the shed, I have a n ss6900v, with a K40, on the car, having trouble with swr not below 1.5:1,, would you recommend a automatic antenna tuner ??? Many thanks Andy
Have you idea how can i see the modulation % in am/ fm without going in ssb? I have an idea. Is it possible to program by computer this radio to let it show the modulation by the huge led display in Front of the radio? Could be a great idea ( but Impossible i m afraid)
Hi. I understand what your asking. I would call it swing on the meter. I dont think it can show that as AM and FM transmit a carrier wave along with the audio which the receiving radio locks on to. Its the strength on the carrier which is displayed. SSB has no carrier hence you see the swing in modulation.
Can someone please clarify a point for a beginner: is it ok (legal) to use a radio, intended for the 10 metre band, to TX on the 11 metre CB band, even if output power is reduced to 4 watts?
No even if you reduce power to a legal 4 watts AM and FM and 12 watts SSB the radio is still not type approved by Ofcom in the UK and therefore is not legal.
Ofcom no longer has the resources to monitor CB freq let alone prosecute. (although the law remains) There simply is not enough activity on the band anymore. In fact there is a real risk that the 11m band may be sold off. Also things like tvi are not longer an issue with TV being digital and sat etc.
@@CB-RADIO-UK and yet there is a continuous stream of new radios on the market, with sellers all over eBay and Amazon, which suggests a growth market... So is CB experiencing a revival, do you think?
2865 sounds a bit scratchy to me fred perhaps he should turn down the mike gain never had a 6900 did have a mass dx 5000 though of course it could be your extension speaker but the others were good 26sd204 ron in oxford like your vtds fred keep it up mate
I'm saving up one these CRT 6900N radios i think it would do better then Ranger 2970 i bet i can do better skip SUPERSTAR CRT SS 6900 here in the united states over in utah i have one those older cobra 139 from 1970 40ch mod i talk truckers on ch19 like 35miles away.
Hello Fred, may I ask for your opinion on the 9900 & 6900n, which model do you & your group members prefer to use?. I'm very keen to know more about the likes & dislikes. I personally think the 6900n looks the better of the two. I would be very grateful for any advice on these rigs. Enjoy your video's Fred 😉👍 Best 73 😎 ✌️
Its a tough one as people are divided. I think overall more people use the 6900 but change the mic. The 9900 can burn out its finals as it runs super hot esp on FM. Receive wise there is nothing between them. The 9900 is far more powerful but the 6900 is easier to use.
@@CB-RADIO-UK many thanks Fred, I really appreciate your answer as I had a feeling they were on equal par. I totally agree with you on the 9900's p, a, & poor heat dissapation via the light heat sink. Thanks Fred, hope to hear you and the 305 group via the skip. 👍😁73
This radio Fred or the 450d or the ss9900??? Coming back on air in 2 weeks and narrowed it down to these 3 radios.what ones best all rounder in your view please?? Cheers 👍👍26ey036
I would start with the 6900n and see how you get on. Change the mic for a £10 improvement. The 9900 is a fine radio but is harder to learn. 450 D is big bucks if you decide not to stick with the hobbie.
Fred I’m having trouble with this 6900n. On any channel when I key the mike I get a terrible howling noise from my radio & the display says S H 1 any ideas what’s happening. I am receiving ok can you advise me what to do please.
S hI = High SWR. This is the radios protection cutting in. TSr in the menu. It normally gives you a loud bleep not a howl ? Now the 6900n is known for being sensitive on high SWR warnings. Mine can cut in as low as 1.8. You can turn it off in the TSr menu option but NOT BEFORE you have checked the SWR on a seperate meter as the warning could be there for a genuine reason. The howling could be the mic gain if your using the power 532 mic.
Hi Fred great. Channel plenty of good advices I have Antron 99 but my swr is 1.6 I can’t get it lower I metered out the coax for shorts but all good but when I screw it into the Ariel it showed a short is that rite thanks keep up the good work
I would count the threads to where the rings are set so you can adjust them back. Then try lowering then right to the bottom. That might help. I had this issue. Also check the connections of the antenna sections. Maybe consider replacing the spring washers as i dont think they help much. Best of luck.
Hi Fred ok so today I heard a big net on 27.515 usb but when I tried to join it and keyed my mic then the rig displayed the message "BUSY" , how can I bypass this please ? 73s
Hi Fred, I have the Maas DX version of this radio, very happy with it apart from the channel changer, very flimsy and feels like it would come of in your hand!!! Anyway.... Just my thoughts.. Good video
Hi Fred, thanks for all the great cb radio videos. This information is very useful. Even here in Australia. I am in Brisbane Queensland. Are you on Facebook? Can I private message you?
What nights do you get on 305, I have listened out four you on their a couple of times, might hear you on one day when conditions are right Fred. Great video, CT2558
I'm thinking about getting one of these using portable on batteries, as a replacement for my Midland Alan 42 that recently blew out it's audio circuit and is totaled inside.

The 9900's main fault is it running way too hot. I always said they should have used the 6900 case with the 9900.
Thanks for a great video

Only as a last resort as it will rob power. An SWR of 1.5 is totally fine.

Look at the Sirio range. 4000 / 5000 etc.
great vid again fred

Fred in the Shed thanks fo getting back to me
Any help with the echo. I tried factory resetting the radio and the echo is still on?
Is the pot switch working ok ?
Not sure what you mean by pot switch. And when I tried to transmit on Am /FM Dc/ lo appears.
Hi Fred wat power surply would you use with this radio regards barry
Around a 12- 16 amp supply would be ideal. The radio pulls less than that but its always best to have a good safety margin.
@@CB-RADIO-UK thank you kind sir

Did you sort it. The busy notice is normally there when the radio is receiving a signal. Not seen that come up when you key up ?
fredintheshed1 Hi mate....Yes I sorted it thanks I had to go to channel 8 then press the 10 kc shift button
I had reset the radio to get around the Busy problem. I totally ignored what was the problem
love my 6900, need to find someone who can do a gate of me so i can hear what it sounds like with the stock mic

Hi. Yes the channel knob is a bit weak compared to other radios.
fredintheshed1 if they had fitted a good old superstar 3900 changer the radio would be superb
Same for me about the more used selectors, not only for the channels...

Hello
I'm thinking about getting one of these using portable on batteries, as a replacement for my Midland Alan 42 that recently blew out it's audio circuit and is totaled inside.
You cant go far wrong with a good 6900N. Once you change the standard mic they are a good all round radio.
Fancy this 6900n can you help me what I need as well please...
Neil just look back on all the CB videos on the channel. its well been covered. Cheers.
Fred I am passing St Helens this yr to go to Weymouth so I’ll message u on the day I set off maybe could give me a shout
