BLACKSWAN releasing music in Korean without any Korean members is so commendable! They could easily release music in English and really try to break into the global scene that way, but they choose to release music in Korean and promote in Korea. Being successful in Korea is their goal, global popularity will come along with it. BLACKSWAN fighting!
I think Blackswan is trying to do what Korean bands were trying to achieve in American market in the past which is recognition for their talent. The only problem is small size of fandom both domestic and international for Blackswan which makes it difficult to get them noticed by general public. Plus missing Korean members, the group is not viewed in positive light or taken seriously to the point that some toxic fans are attacking them with racial slurs which they may not use for other groups.
@@느림보라이더 I am not making any leaping statement. I used the word 'some toxic fans'. Viewing them positively is one thing but it is also true that Blackswan members are often get belittled or abused on same issues which K-Pop community in general opposes in public. When social media helped propelled K-Pop far and wide, then certainly the conversations be it good or bad within online K-Pop community will be taken into account. I am not saying it's all bad but the point I am trying to make is also true. More than anything, I want the current Blackswan members to become the pioneers of what future K-Pop will look like with diversity of talented individuals from all over the world competing against each other for good music. After all K-Pop is now a global phenomenon.
@surabhikashyap241 From what I've seen it's international kpop fans that are acting nasty to BlackSwan. Koreans are ,from what I've seen, embracing them. It's funny to me ,whenever I see a non Korean standing up on their soapbox about how kpop is supposed to be Korean only ,only to see actual Koreans genuinely happy to see foreigners participating in said "Korean only" thing. I won't get into how that argument doesn't make since because realistically "Kpop" is pretty much American Pop with a Korean flair. But yeah I've mainly seen non Koreans perpetuate this "No Koreans; No Kpop" barrier as if it's their place to make such rules. If the Korean based company is satisfied with their choices, and have no issuse with a full Non Korean group. Then they are a kpop group. And if Korean kpop fans are happy to have them and consider them a kpop group then thats what they are. Who are those people, as non Koreans, to complain and dictate what is and what isnt kpop, or who should and who shouldn't be in kpop.
@jayc3603 FYI XG is trained under Korean training system, with all Japenese members, with song releases in English, mini releases in English, Korean and Japanese and promotes in Korea. XG's CEO also claims that XG is not a Kpop group. Please
The leader, Fatou (the charismatic rapper of the group) clarifies that they also consider themselves a Kpop group. Korean Luminas and even regular Korean Netizens also consider them a Kpop group and actually defend them from hate communities that say they shouldn't be Kpop. I feel like, unlike XG who are trying to carve themselves into the international pop market by appealing to different fanbases and singing primarily in English - with Blackswan, they went the normal Kpop route with training, being under a Korean company, and singing in Korean. Their primary market, although they do perform in and appeal to international markets, is Korea. When they say they are a global group, it not only refers to the lineup being composed of all non-Korean members, but also is used more in the traditional Kpop sense in that they have global appeal. Not that they're trying to do Western-style pop. They have expressed that they want to do songs in other languages that the members speak like Hindi, French, and Portuguese, but at the end of the day they're primarily singing in Korean. I've been following Blackswan since before the re-brand when they were BP Rania with Alex Reid. Although the company has a lot of issues, the management and team behind this current lineup seem to be doing very well! The MV was filmed in Odisha (member Sriya's hometown), and I love how her culture was showcased here. ZANY Bros worked with them for the MV, and it shows in the production value this time around. Most of western kpop fans' biggest mistake is that they don't know how much their world is different to the eastern world. For them, everything looks like a matter of race skin color things but for eastern people, culture is everything. An example - Daniel Dae Kim can never be a part of Korean culture even though he is a full Korean and eat Korean food every day because of his poor Korean skill but Koreans call Jonathan Yiombi a 100% Korean brother even though he is a full black African born in Congo and eats Congonese food every day because his Korean skill is perfect. Some people from her home state were commenting that they never see themselves represented in Bollywood productions and now they are suddenly in a K-pop video. So I think the reason it's not full Bollywood is because they chose to stick closer to Sriya's actual roots. They did mention wanting to use more of the other member's heritage too.
