    Donnie Shell #31 of the Pittsburgh Steelers
    Career Accomplishments
    Undrafted free agent in 1974
    Pittsburgh Steelers (1974-87)
    5x Pro Bowl selection
    4x All-Pro selection
    4x Super Bowl Champion
    His 51 interceptions were the most ever for a strong safety when he retired.
    19 fumble recoveries
    Pro Football Hall of Fame selection
    Nicknamed "The Torpedo" due to his superior closing speed and eagerness to launch himself.
    Tony Dungy stated in his autobiography "Quiet Strength" that Shell was one of his closest friends on the team and a mentor on and off the field.
    While his stats match up with other great defensive backs in his or any era, numbers shouldn't define what made Shell unique. It was that fearlessness and effort that he played with on every snap. It was his peerless athleticism that enabled him to chase down the fastest of players. It was the leadership he displayed to his younger teammates, teaching them the Steeler Way of doing things.

    Calvin Hill (35) turned out to be a valuable pick up for the Browns. They signed him as a seasoned veteran and he ended up playing like 3 seasons with Cleveland. Excellent pass receiver, but also a team leader. He scores a TD in this game on a pass from Brian Sipe (16).

      As a kid I vaguely remember that game . if memory serves, sure handed Ozzie Newsome dropped one in the endzone . Recently looking at the highlights and knowing how bad lake erie weather can be , you'd think the browns would have the advantage . sad, i was a browns fan back then . i also loved skinny Brian Sipe . he didn't have a great long pass arm but had the best field vision, composure, and seemingly effortless agility of any qb. he lead his receivers so well . he'd put the ball up there while they were still running routes and ball would just fall nicely in their hands. he could scramble with the best, could throw the ball on the run to the opposite side of the field, times i remember him completing pass while in the clutches of a defensive lineman. Cleveland had a great flexible offense too . Receivers covered deep, they'd come back in, or blocking back was released for a pass, and so on .

    Bradshaw, Swann, Stallworth, Franco Harris and Jack Lambert out of this game. Did the injury bug hit the Steelers that hard in 1980? These Steelers missed the playoffs in 1980 with a 9-7 mark.

    • @Biggdoom344
      @Biggdoom344 Год назад

      Yes. Their age started to show the year before but definitely this and the next season. 1980 was the last season the 70s dynasty would play together. Not only injuries but career ending. In the next two years..ham, Bleier, Swann, Wagner, White, Greene, LC Greenwood kolb,, would retire mainly due to injuries. Then in 83 Bradshaw would miss basically the entire year and retire. Browns were good though and after two very competitive games the year before, you could see Cleveland coming a mile away. I always thought the oilers would take over the throne but it was Cleveland that took that role.

They drafted Gabe Rivera, whose career was cut short after like 7 games when he was ejected from his car and was paralyzed. Can't say I feel all that bad, he was driving drunk. At least he didn't hurt anyone else. Drunk driving isn't a mistake, it is a choice.
