Wuqinzhang Mountain stands at the source of the Xizhi River in Guangdong Province. With dense vegetation and humid climate, the mountain offers Chinese Pangolins a habitat. The Chinese pangolin’s genus name Manis came from manes, which is Classical Latin for any of a heap of ghosts in Roman myth and is for its strange looks and nocturnal habits. Its species name pentadactyla means five-fingered and is for its five great front claws. Can you believe that?
By great, I mean “large.”
By heap, I mean a “group.”
