My favorite classic Mustang Channel.. You sir have helped me more than you know. My car is coming along as 65 GT350R clone with my own styling and touches..(small video on my channel) To everyone that contributes to your channel. Thank you and great work.
Thanks Jeff! This is perfect as I’m getting ready to tear into the 69 Mach1. I’m just dreading getting on that cold garage floor. Knees and back just aren’t what they used to be.. 😂👍🏻
A really good upgrade is SPC performance upper A-arms and adjustable strut rods. You can dial in the alignment with those. Oh! by the way I use the spring tool with the fork, but I put the fork on top of the shock tower and pull the spring up and remove the a arm. Great show...
I'm getting ready to replace the front suspension on my 66, so these episodes are perfect. Jeff, I've been watching since the early days (episode 3), so I really appreciate the channel. I am now a RUclips creator so I have a whole new appreciation for how much work you have to do week-in and week-out to keep this channel top notch. Well done!
Right on! Thanks for being a day one guy! I'll go check out your channel. Thanks again for hanging in there with us. If you need any tips, email me at: jford@autorestomod.com
Great show again guys. This is a great preview/refresher for me as I’ll be tearing out the front suspension and steering in my ‘65 Falcon wagon in the next week or two. BTW cool to continue to see Logan getting his hands dirty on the Ranchero. Guys don’t truly appreciate a car unless they have some blood and sweat invested in it ;)
FYI Jeff I found a different style spring compressor that I tried tonight with great success and the least stress I’ve ever had with removing coil springs. It’s an OEMTOOLS 57035 and it uses a plate and hook system. Was very stable and reasonably priced to boot!
Reminds me of my first coil spring replacement - they sent me the springs for a 390 or 427 (for my '66 Mustang) and I didn't know any better. Boy that thing set up high in the front! That was my first clue they were the wrong springs!
Did this on my Granada last summer. You ain't kidding about those springs being super sketchy! Thank God for PB Blaster, torches, and electric impacts 🤣
Thank you for the vid! I am in front of a complete suspension and brake system overhaul on my '73 Mach 1 so this was quite helpful! Looking forward to your updates regularly!
@@AutoRestoMod thank you for asking, I'm good. Nice bruise though. I got lucky. I remember your dad from the beginning of this channel. He was a cool dude and raised a pretty good kid. Keep up the great work on the channel. 100k in no time!
Shock tower bolts: '65 Falcon: I replaced mine with stainless carriage bolts and just ground down the heads a bit to flatten them out to fit under the sheet metal.
When I go to decompress the spring I fold a old moving blanket over it . Helps to keep a hold on the spring and if it does go walk about the blanket will help dampen the force.
@@AutoRestoMod You can pick the used ones with minor defects up from UHaul stores for a few bucks each.I also use em to wrap windshields etc. Good thing to have a few of em in the shop.
Hi, i'm currently in the process of doing this. I would like to try and budget some things and was wondering what i should keep and not keep for the front suspension?
I've got one of those long square tube spring compressors that mounts like a shock, with thrust washers. I bought it new a few years back when I switched to full coilover from Street or Track and it was a breeze, but after that one use I've had no need for it. Want it for the shop?
@@AutoRestoMod Haha true, but I'll see if I can pass it on to a VMF member or something then. It's just another part I'm storing for no good reason (like so many others like it)! Thanks for continuing to crank out these videos!

Do yourself a favor and eliminate shock towers on every classic Ford being restored. Also use name brands for ball joints and tie rods like Moog. Duralast and oriellys are crap! Nice work by the way! If your not using old springs again, a torch will eliminate the tension😁
just caught a glance of what looks like a stiffening L bracket on the end of the strut bar where it attaches to lower control arm. Is that factory or someone's add on
Hey I know this has nothing to do with the video but I’ve got a 69 Ford fairlane with a stock 351w that’s been parked for 20+ years it’s been started and runs but need to change out the oil what would be a good choice to run in it
I take that as high praise. Alton Brown's show Good Eats was actually an inspiration for me. I wish our budget allowed for more graphics like he used in the early episodes.
@@AutoRestoMod its hard to match the science breakdowns that the show was able to explain so simply, but your RUclips channel retains the same heart his did! Great job! Your videos have helped me as a first time restorer with my '66 mustang.
Man I would just restore that suspension back to its former glory. At least to 85% concours. Those lower control arm bushings could be replaced with MOOG or other brand.
Depends on what you are looking for. The drop will help in handling situations where you are pushing the car harder than "normal street conditions". In the daily, it really won't be noticed much.
@@AutoRestoMod It was a poorly thought-out design, and definitely limited under-hood space when they started shoving big blocks and Clevelands in there. I also don't like how the engine bay needed all kinds of braces to stiffen up the body. Ford... ' nuff said.

He is getting so much better at it.
Hope you do the roller spring pearch upgrade maybe from Open Tracker.
We have them and are putting them in.

We will I think. Coming this week or next.

Great tip
I did the same thing on my '65 Falcon in the mid-eighties. Still on there today.
Best penetrant I have used for years is Aero Kroil by Kano laboratories. We use it in the nuclear industry and it works great.
Great tip!
Very nice. Extra bonus with the power tool/stuck nut vibration dirt removal 👍 I can't wait until my minions are old enough to wrench for me 🍻

Try Kano aerokroil. Best penetrating oil I have used.
I will look into that.
Best penetrant is 50/50 Acetone and ATF. They stratify initially, so shake well just before use.
Sounds great.

We'll go over that on the install video. (I do use an Impact)

I've never liked this set up on most Ford unit body cars of the day... mainly because the shock towers took up too much space in the engine bay.

OK
Why bother with a spring compressor removing a spring your going to throw away - heat it up with a torch and let it collapse on its own
That is one approach. Lot of folks don't have a torch though.
Lol
HAHA
Just show people the proper tools used correctly and stop all this propaghanda. Please.
Propaganda? You mean sponsor mentions? I'll stop mentioning sponsors if you'll go to work for free Ray.
An excellent penetrator is 50/50 transmission oil and mineral spirits. As a rust inhibitor I spray it on the frame and non braking parts.
Cool Idea! I might have to try that one. Will it work with a normal spray bottle?
