I feel the same way. If DC had done a full reboot, I’d be more interested in giving James Gunn a chance, but as of right now, I’ve moved on to other films.
And don’t get me started with the MCU post Endgame.

Gunn is similar to David Goyer. He's good at making 1 type of hero film: goofy murder hobos. Also, the characters are not accurate to the comics, and that is why he selects the most obscure to have the most leeway. It's a cheat move, and it's cheap.

To use an old pro wrestling adage: less is always more. I won’t get into the whole “The Message ™” being put into just about everything as that would be a very long and boring diatribe so I’ll just put on my comics nerd hat and say that the movies aren’t as good as the source material

It's kind of sad and amazing that all I feel towards all of this superhero/scifi/fantasy now is compete apathy. If you told me when I was a kid in 2003 that there would be a star wars series staring Obi Wan Kenobi, a live action Secret Wars movie or a TV series based on Tolkiens work I would have been ecstatic. 20 years and endless mediocre movies later I just don't care anymore.

  • @snowbunnie1113
    @snowbunnie1113 Год назад +4

Agreed I wish DC would stop trying to copy the superficial elements of the MCU and just accept and embrace that their strength is in self contained else-worlds movies (like Joker and The Batman) that don’t have to deal with the cluster f*ck that is the “cannon” of modern comics.

Hollywood is really trying to milk the superhero cash cow and it is running dry. Other than the 2 Spiderman films, I haven't watched anything from Marvel since Endgame to which I found disappointing. As for DC, I'm a Snyderverse fan, but I figure that ship is sailed and sunk. And I've stopped watching the CW shows. And other than Harley Quinn, most of DC's animated stuff is really good. It would be nice if they could do that with live action. And if Hollywood wasn't so desperate to continue with this genre, I'd say take a nice long break from making any superhero films for a few years.

  • @JosephCoenMason

It's not just "Superhero fatigue", but Superhero products have gotten so stale, mediocre, unoriginal, uninspiring, and just the SAME, OL' stuff.
That, and the WAY they pander to certain "groups", for one, simple reason. Money. That's all it's ever been about. Iron Man did indeed pave the way for films of that sort to be made, but it came with more cons than pros. Hollywood has drastically changed as a result, which is NOT for the best.

The best thing we can do for superhero movies right now is to ignore them. We must promote alternative art to catch the masses. These superhero movies need a break. It took 8 years of no Batman in movies for the character to go from silly to serious.

Thank you for just saying everything I've been struggling with .
At least for me it's also this sense of one sided loyalty. Marvel and DC both expect us to be loyal but treat us very poorly in terms of the content and obvious lack of passion behind it. Maybe I'm watching too much harley quinn content recently but that's how I feel . For now I'm gonna stick to some classic stuff and go back to the movies on my terms.

I understand how you feel, especially with the last 2 years. But I don't have fatigue because there has been a sheer drop in quality since Endgame. Falcon stank of re-writing, She-Hulk and Thor L&T were unwatchable and then there is the disjointed nature of the current slate of D+ projects. So I can understand your fatigue, but I'm disappointed.

I know this is a slightly old video, and there's been some developments since, but - personally, I am not tired of superhero movies, per se. I am tired of THESE superhero movies. I am tired of not being able to look forward to my favorite characters getting films anymore.
Let me explain my perspective. I am not the oldest of old-school fans, but I lived through the '90's, and back then, every comic book movie was an event. Every time we got a new one, it was hugely exciting, because maybe, finally, some of the characters and comics we REALLY wanted to see get a movie actually would. I, like most of my geeky brethren, had a long list of these, and as the old century ended and the new one began, and films like 'Blade', 'Spider-Man' and 'X-Men' kept getting made, we were filled with a wave of optimism. Look at all this cool stuff they were doing! Surely, our dream movies were only a matter of time!
Now? Now I hope my favorite heroes WON'T get movies. There's been too much water under the bridge, too many disappointments, too much outright waste of potential. I was starting to lose interest in the MCU about halfway through its run, but at least I could still appreciate its overall quality; now it's been reduced to a series of bland, ideology-driven films and shows that have about as much individuality to them as milk cartons. Back in the day, I would have turned cartwheels with excitement if I'd heard She-Hulk would be getting an adaptation; by the time I actually DID hear about it, I just kind of groaned and went 'oh, not her TOO' - and lo and behold, I was right to do so. The DCEU has been a little better, overall - it's had its ups and downs, but I honestly think its highs largely outweigh its lows, and even said lows are at least INTERESTING lows - but it's starting to flatten out, too. Like the Western did once, it is time for the superhero film to die off, at least for a while, so that people can start to appreciate their possibilities again - and then, maybe, we will finally start to see some of the dreams of the past get realized.

They're really wearing the Joker thin too. He's actually a fun, interesting character, but the success of The Dark Knight set the cynical machine in motion, and there's just too much so that it feels like almost every appearance now is a marketing gimmick to get articles written. Batman himself is heading in that direction too, unfortunately.

I'm a huge superhero guy too,
but it's not superhero movie so I think people are tired of
, marvel and DC have made interesting content and stories for years
that captured the imagination and greatness of fiction,
the truth is that we often get so stuck in recreating, that we don't see the opportunity for new
There are so many stories to adapt and reimagine,
but companies wants to play it safe because they know that if they take risk
    they might lose their money
I don't believe in superhero fatigue
I believe in bad movie fatigue

So we’re more so in a time where being a fan of these franchises isn’t that fun anymore. James Gunn with his DCU, I’ll at least see what happens before I completely write the whole thing off.
