  • Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Bullfrog Gambit!
    In today's video, we cover a somewhat dubious but fun chess gambit that d4 players can use! Maybe your opponent has studied hard in the Benoni Defense, Grunfeld Defense, King's Indian Defense, Benko Gambit, Nimzo-Indian Defense, Bogo-Indian Defense, or Queen's Indian Defense. Well, if the d4 player goes with the Bullfrog Gambit all of that preparation goes out the window! The Bullfrog Gambit has a surprising level of chess strategy, chess ideas, chess moves, chess traps, and chess tricks to win fast. The Bullfrog Gambit is hard to play against because it goes against normal chess principles but still works somehow. We give up a pawn but in return look to gain control of the center and an advantage in development. The Bullfrog Gambit is a fun chess opening for chess beginners and intermediate chess players as it requires both players to think outside the box and rely on their own intuition opposed to memorized opening lines and variations. The Bullfrog Gambit is a fun chess opening to use in online bullet and blitz games as well, as it is a tricky chess opening with many chess opening traps. We hope you will enjoy this video on learning how to play the Bullfrog Gambit!

    Pretty interesting! Apparently Humphrey Bogart was a fan of this gambit

    Thanks for this, Solomon. I've only seen this played by Emil Diemer, Claude Bloodgood and once by chess master Baastian.
    It's like a sane version of the Grob. I'm surprised that FM Mark Duckworth doesn't play it. Safe travels!

    Hello Solomon, happy to see your channel growing! :)
    I had less occasion to play, now I'm trying to play more games. Thanks for the new gambit!
    hope for a comeback of Giant Geographic's mini documentaries ;) but chess is more important of course and always well explained!

    I've seen some analysis of a third option with the black knight after it has captured g4: 3...Nxf2!
    after which sacrifice, the white king has no fortress. I'll see if I can find that game (which Black won).
    The first Bullfrog I ever saw, White didn't play 2.e4, but 2.f3, to drive back the N, then 3.e4 then the 4.Be3, to drop to f2 if necessary.
    That said, 2. e4 seems simpler, probably better.
    Thanks, Solomon.

      Oh wow! That is some crazy chess right there following Nxf2! Thanks for the thoughtful comments as always.

      3.Nxf2 is not worth it tbh, yes the king is on f2 but white can play 5.nf3 and counter all queen threats.

    Another amazing video!
    Here is an idea for a video...
    The Arctic Defense (1. f6) which usually arises off the Reti opening (1. Nf3 f6, 2. e4)
    Thanks for considering !

      @@TheChessGiant Have you ever looked at the 8 online games played in 2001 between Nigel Short and supposedly Bobby Fischer ?

    • @johnp845
      @johnp845 3 года назад +1

      @@TheChessGiant LOL. That is the greatest mystery in all of chess. Here are the games ... en.chessbase.com/portals/4/files/games/iccf1.htm ... the last 7 are supposedly between Fischer and Short. No one knows the moves of the last game 8, but Fischer won the series 8-0.

      @@johnp845 Sweet, thanks for sending! Out of curiosity, has short ever commented on it?

    • @johnp845
      @johnp845 3 года назад +1

      @@TheChessGiant This is well documented. Initially Short said he was "99% sure" it was Fischer, as he asked Fischer questions during these bizarre games, and his opponent responded immediately with answers only Fischer would know so immediately. Apparently Short may be backtracking now. There is lots of info regarding this on RUclips and by Googling it.
