Another outing for the fantastic "Get A Move On" track which has fast become a favourite since it was first released in May 1999. This time, however, the single also features "Ug" a track not previously available except on Ninja Tunes Xen Cuts compilation. The demand for "Get A Move On" has just grown and grown and since it sold out when first released on Ninja Tune. Its subsequent deletion meant that though everyone could hear it (just listen to any TV programme to hear it as backing music) nobody could buy it which prompted the nice bods at Ninja to re-release it.
Mr Scruff has been reaching more people as hes gone along. France Telecom (the French equivalent of BT) were suitably impressed with him and used "Get A Move On" as part of their national TV advertising campaign, as did Volvo in N. America and Germany - the Scruffy one didn't see it as something to get excited about. And he's got more fans. Most notably, Madonna recently said in Mixmag of music she was playing at home, "And Mr Scruff I love, that weird little album ('Keep It Unreal') that's got so much personality". Mr Scruff was characteristically unimpressed.
His DJing work is also something to inspire awe. Most famous for his 5 hour sets, he truly is a DJ which takes you on a journey. Named after his debut album, his "Keep It Unreal" nights have spread from his home town of Manchester to other places across the country. If youre lucky enough to live near London, Edinburgh or Nottingham youll have had the opportunity to pop along and dance your socks off. In fact Mr Scruff has so impressed with his sets, he has been voted Most Creative DJ by readers of iDJ magazine.
A man of many talents, Mr Scruff (formerly a fine art student) is known for his outstanding line drawings which have been seen in publications from 7 Magazine to The Face. They took on another dimension when he animated them for his two videos, one of which can be seen on this promo CD.

For anyone wondering, the sax sample, or sample in general, is from "Bird's Lament" by Moondog.
As another sample I hunted for Jurassic 5 a day at the races bassline is from David Axelrod's Urizen from Song of Innocence. Fucking amazing record. Highly recommend. ( ruclips.net/video/e3jv7dNKB70/видео.html&ab_channel=DavidAxelrod-Topic )

Moondog, that’s a name that you don’t hear much. Fascinating musician

And the vocal sample "You better keep movin', boys, or you'll be left behind" is from T-Bone Walker's "Hypin' Woman Blues".
Love him so much, I visited his grave
I still remember when this came on Toonami during the day. I would always love when the saxophone would comeback in the song. I wanted to hear more of what that sound was, and this is what started my obsession with jazz music.
Check out the Official Toonami Version that I JUST uploaded onto my channel! :D

I LOOOVE THIS SONG!!!! I used to hear it all the time but never knew who made it!! LOOVE how this music has a mixture of the origination of jazz, house music, and that 1930s/1940s sound!! It's really nice!! LOOVE IT!!!
Check out Moondog!!🙂 He's really the one who made the theme, it's called "Bird's lament".. a fascinating, fascinating artist
Oh really?
Isn't it Charlie Parker?
This is going to be a somewhat long comment and slightly eccentric, but it will all tie together at the end...
My name is Chad Stein and I'm a professional photographer from Fremont, California (the Bay Area). Back on August 8th of 2018, I traveled to the famous city of Napa with my mom. While in Napa, we stopped at a place called "The Oxbow Market" which is an indoor venue with eateries and small shops. After browsing inside, we decided to take a seat at a small sitting area outside of one of the restaurants. There was no one out there and it was fairly quiet. Playing softly in the background was ambient music from a speaker-system which was for the restaurant that we were at. While conversing with my mom, the music caught my ear. I paused the conversation momentarily to take a quick-listen...I caught literally 2 seconds of the music. It wasn't enough time to pull out my phone to record it or find out what the song was. After processing it in my head for a few seconds, I said to my mom: "I think I know what song that was. I'll check it out when I get home". So the day continued in Napa until I got home later that night.
Upon arriving home, I checked out the songs that I thought it could've been...unfortunately, none of them were correct. I then went on my computer to search through my folder of MP3s which I've accumulated over nearly two decades. Since the speakers on my computer were broken, I was just looking at the artists' names and song titles to see if I could place the tune with the proper track. By the way: I have an extremely eclectic taste in music. After hours of searching, there was no luck. This began a very, very long journey.
Following that night, those 2 seconds of the song looped in my head...over and over again. It was an extreme case of "ear-worm". I tried to think rationally and logically as to where I might have heard the song before. First, I thought it was in a car commercial back in the 2000s. So I watched a ton of car commercials from the 2000s...no luck. Then I thought that it was from an alcohol commercial from the 2000s. As you probably guessed: I watched a bunch of alcohol commercials from the 2000s. Still, no luck.
I had nothing to go on other than the 2 seconds or so that kept looping in my head...I didn't hear any lyrics and I couldn't place what came before or after those notes. Since I'm not a musician, I couldn't replicate what I was hearing, other than through a crude "hum". From there, I actually found a website where you can hum into your device's microphone and it would detect the song. I was optimistic that it would work, but it didn't.
I was only able to describe the notes that I heard as being "smooth" and "jazzy". So I then searched the internet far and wide for music that fit that criteria. As one could imagine, the results that populated were massive.
Next, I started getting what I could best describe as "audio deja vu"...I would hear music and say: "Was that it?". Every time, it wasn't.
This persisted day in and day out. As time passed, the amount of time that I'd recollect the music was less, but it still popped up from time to time. Please understand: I wasn't being tormented to the point of psychological distress in any way, shape, form or fashion. I simply just couldn't figure out this mystery.
Before I proceed I'd like to mention that random words, phrases and things of that nature pop up in my head from time to time...
With that being said, on the night of August 6th, 2020 (almost 2 years later to the day), I was showering late at night. While in the shower, the words "Mr Scruff" popped up in my head, randomly. Not knowing why, I said to myself: "I'll check it out on the computer later".
Later that night, I used the search option on my PC to search for "Mr. Scruff". It came up with a result and a song name. I then said to myself: "Well, the speakers don't work on my computer still. I'll check it out on my phone before I go to bed".
Even later that night, I watched several videos on my phone while laying in bed before going to sleep. Right when I was about to put my phone down for the night (or morning), I decided to search for that "Mr. Scruff" song on RUclips. Immediately after clicking the play button, I became so ecstatic that I almost cried tears of joy. At 4:06am on Thursday, August 6th 2020, the mystery ended..."Get A Move On" was the song.
In glad I read it all. You were on one hell of a search
@@NAUT758 Thanks for reading the whole thing. Yeah, it was pretty frustrating. But the relief that came over me once I found out was awesome! By the way: I sent the story to Mr. Scruff on Facebook and he replied!

Crazy story! Btw from one of the other comments I've found out that that tune was indeed used in a car commercial in 2000s: ruclips.net/video/k7kV8MoHnls/видео.html
What a simple and true expression of what today's world is all about. A masterpiece indeed.
First heard this song in the old Lincoln Navigator commercials. Loved it.
I heard it in 2002 world Cup tune on BBC RED BUTTON...Awesome track...❤📣🎶
I was driving through Welsh countryside when this came on summer of 1999. It was spectacular.
Never forget the 2003 Lincoln Navigator Commercial.
Or, the Lincoln Town Car commercial.
So happy to see someone else remembers that awesome Navigator TV ad !.. A new body style, new drive train, and all those new power features.. I thought that was one of the top commercials for a vehicle - Ever... Here's the 30 second ad... I can't find the longer ad with this same music.. ruclips.net/video/k7kV8MoHnls/видео.html
had to hunt it down that way
I had totally forgotten all about that commercial and this song until I came across it again not too long ago. Upon Shazaming it, that's what brought me here! 😃
It was the Chrysler 300c tv commercial when that car first introduced.
The artwork for this video is.. impeccable.
I think they used this song for the Lincoln commercials in the late 90's early 2000's
This isn't a song. This is an experience. This is what they play while you're walking up the stairway to heaven.
This isn't a song, it's the sound of AMERICAN LUXURY that you drive in NYC carrying hoogs to airports.
@@MichaelOKeefe2009 As pointed out by Ton Zelle the main groove is a sample from a Jazz performer in the 60s called Moondog AKA the viking of 6th avenue. My partner's Aunt remembered him from her time in New York in the 60s. He used to play jazz on the street with an emphasis on weird time feels. He recorded some albums. The internet is kinda hazy about how many but wikipedia says this was the 5th I'm kinda repeating all the info on wikipedia. it's all there. The song sampled is from the 5/1st album and is called Bird's Lament. (it's the 1st because it's easiest to find.) (Here it is: ruclips.net/video/-Y80QulpLUo/видео.html&ab_channel=Moondog-Topic)
Enjoy it, it's weird but it's really good.
Luv and Peace.
Also have to say having seen Mr Scruff live in small clubs back in the early 2000s they were some of the best vibed nights I'd ever been at. He turned the whole Mezzanine in Homeless/Reading rooms into a tearoom serving tea and selling merch. Amazing night. He played for hours.
Great vibes. That was the best nightclub in Scotland for the longest time.

My God, this came out *20* years ago! The sample, *"Bird's Lament"* by Moondog, came out in 1969.
Such a simple tune with simple lyrics, but it has so much personality! A very characterful song...

this was in a Lincoln Car Commercial from 2002-2005.
This guy has made a electro swing song in 1999. Incredible!
what is incredible, precisely? mixing two genres so different? or the track itself? check the backcatalogue of this same label with a distinct sound. Personally i hated this stuff but i was young and i sw most of IDM or "laptop generation" as they called those musicians back then. Luckily on the opposite side of electronic music - there were Dopplereffekt & Drexciya with all their side projects and a bunch of other electro artists - often sharing the same stage with the IDM artists.
Does this really counts as electro swing? It just seems to be jazz
@@yellmo4852 Yes and no. Originally electro swing was made by sampling jazz and adding a swing esc house drum beat chopping it and adding bass. So mr scruff has done the same kind of thing just his jazz sample wasn't quite the generic one we would expect from modern electro swing.

The Lincoln Navigator ad music.
damn what a tune
The first time I heard this song was on a buick commercial years ago, I was either down south in Greenville, Mississippi or up in New York City at the time when I first heard it. approximately 13 to 15 years later, I across a garbage men prank clip, and the song was playing. it made me want to look for the song real hard online, and now, I finally found the song. So basically I have been trying to find the song for a while. Listening to this is a whole lot better than listening to some of the rubbish that's being played on the radio.
I have seen both commercials
Moondog is the guy who the song is sampled from, hes good too

Me too! And I've been looking for this since I was in junior high!
i was listening to the original album the sample came from (moondog's self-titled) and thought bird's lament would be a good sample for an electro swing track. i even started to cut in a beat and get it done myself... then i read a comment on youtube and found this. guess i'm about 18 years too late! LOL great track nonetheless
MASTERPIECE? I love Mr Scruff but this track is not his best work, it sounds almost exactly like the track that he sampled, barely any change at all. The rest of Keep it Unreal, particularly the Fish Song and Shanty Town are way more creative. Still this song makes mewiggle, but that's cos the original makes me wiggle (and he hasn't changed it!) Okay, getting off my high horse now, shouldn't give the horse so much 2ci really.
I just heard the original "you better keep moving" phrase in the song "Hypin' Woman Blues". The minute I heard it this song came up to me!
