I'm far from a motorhead, I have purchased only two vehicles for myself previously -- both factory-ordered -- a 1986 Ford Bronco II and a 1995 Ford Ranger Supercab (which I still own...coming up on 30 years!). In the interim, I took on my wife's Camrys after she had about 9 years/150K miles on them and then I'd try to push them to 400K as my commuter vehicle. Finally, coming up on retirement and my Ranger making it clear it wasn't interested in sticking around for another 30 years, I started researching Subarus since several of my friends who have owned them generally have had 2-4 of them, so I was impressed with its brand loyalty. RUclips videos have been an important part of my research and with that, there were a handful of RUclips channels I kept returning to and rewatching their videos -- yours became one of them. Thank you for all invaluable information you've imparted and the entertaining commentary have made them fun to watch. I look forward to your future videos, especially regarding Subarus and the entertainment that accompanies your reviews, it's been an enjoyable experience. Oh, I suppose I should mention I did purchase a 2025 Outback Premium a couple of months ago....
Thank you for sharing your automobile ownership experience, and the kind words regarding my videos!! It’s encouraging to know that you’ve found my videos that helpful. 😊 They’ll definitely be plenty more Subaru videos in the future! Just not the specific updates on the OBW platform. But I can say after briefly owning the new car, there’s a lot of things that Subaru does well and better than a competing brand! 😉 But I’m really excited for the change!
Haha yeah. At this point I can’t buy a daily driver that isn’t at least fairly capable. But the new car is in most cases not a better vehicle than the Wilderness. I just needed a change and wanted to try another popular platform for my own understanding of why so many people buy them. Also, I film so much Subaru stuff with new car reviews that I don’t want to say it gets boring, but it feels very repetitive and I want to learn more and experience this new car in a way I can’t just by briefly borrowing them. 😅 Edit: this is actually just like the Miata I had. It still to this day is the most fun vehicle that I have driven, in my opinion. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I still need to own one.
That is such a beautiful Outback! It's always bittersweet to get rid of a car that you really have loved owning. When I was in college, my parents gave me their old Ford Explorer (the last generation built on the Ranger chassis). The vehicle never gave them any problems. So, I drove it to college across the country. I used that old Ford Explorer through college, graduate school, marriage, a move across the country to the Silicon Valley. Here in the Silicon Valley, I took that vehicle on camping trips, road trips as well as a daily commuter (despite so-so gas mileage but with astronomical California gas prices). It has never given me any problems other than a thermostat housing unit that had finally corroded. I bought the replacement part from Amazon for $20 (the housing unit and a new thermostat) and changed it myself. I owned it until recently when I gave it to a family member. By the time I gave it away, it had ~390,000 miles on it. My family member flew to the Silicon Valley and drove it down to the Rio Grande Valley on the Texas-Mexico border. It is still working perfectly. It's currently being used to drive into Mexico with a trailer to bring natural stone back to the U.S. In all the time that I owned that vehicle, my parents have had five other vehicles (two Fords, two Toyotas and a Chevy). They are currently driving a new Ford Explorer. Yet, none of their newer vehicles have ever been as much of a pleasure to drive as that Ford Explorer. Oddly enough, we bought a new Mazda to replace that Ford Explorer. As much as I really loved that Explorer, I have really enjoyed my new Mazda. It's so much fun to drive! Our model is not quite as big as the old Explorer; however, it gets better gas mileage and is absolutely so much fun to drive! The Mazda has AWD (great for our camping destinations and frequent trips to the beach, Tahoe or Yosemite) plus the modern safety features too. I seriously considered a Subaru (as well as Toyota and Honda); however, the Mazda was just a fantastic value for what it is. We are thinking about replacing another vehicle soon. We are considering all of our options; however, our experience with Mazda has been sooooo good that a different larger model might be at the top of our list now.
Thank you for sharing all of this. That’s amazing how reliable the Explorer was for you guys! That sounds like a fun plan, I really like the modern Mazdas, they’re well built and fun to drive!
You make videos for other car enthusiasts, who can't afford to switch cars every few years. Thanks for your videos The search for the perfect car continues...
As a fellow 2022 OBW owner (with the same color paint, no less), I am sorry that you sold your OBW, and that we won't be seeing any more 2022 OBW videos. I enjoyed the videos you created and shared, and the honest and frank comments you've made about the OBW. I really like my 2022 OBW (95,000 miles on it now), so I intend to hold onto it for a long time. Like you, I've had no major problems with it. I was going to get the timing belt and water pump replaced, but found out that the OBW has a timing chain, so nothing to be done there. I finally did replace the OEM wiper blades (which lasted for over 3 years); I bought the Costco Michelin wiper blades, but found out that one needed the K adapter, which is not included, so you have to call Michelin and they will send you the K adapter for free. Even though you won't be posting about the OBW any longer, I'll remain a subscriber and will update you occasionally on my OBW so you'll know what you've missed. 🙂
I’d love for you to keep me updated on your OBW!! And thanks for sharing about the Michelin blades. I just used Subaru factory ones for the purpose of the video and they snap on super easily! What a difference they made, at least for the couple days before selling the car haha. I’m thrilled to share how the new car compares to Subarus and other brands I’ve driven. Lots of eye opening experiences already, the first one being the MPG test filmed the day of the trade haha…🤪😬
Your in-depth and honest reviews of your Subarus have made me rethink if they would be a good value for my money especially since car dealers have more inventory now. I keep an eye open for your next car.
Definitely don’t over value my opinion on anything I say, good or bad. In my own experience Subaru’s are well worth their money for the safety and AWD, at least if you value those things and they provide you peace of mind. But max resale value is definitely not here compared to something like a 4Runner or Tacoma. But those vehicles are also over valued especially for how many trade offs they have that make day to day livability much worse than something like a Subaru. Best of luck!!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 4Runner, yeah if you want full size truck like fuel economy, but terrible power output, a horrible ride, and cramped feeling inside. Step up to a Sequoia at least...the 4Runner is like the Jeep Wrangler....2 of the most over-rated vehicles on the market that everybody modifies, and never uses like they were designed....they do good offroad, onroad not so much.
Good luck on the next car! Can’t wait to check it out, but sad to see you’re letting the Subi go. When I was in the market for a new car a few weeks ago, your Wilderness review (the green Wilderness you reviewed) was the first one I watched. It helped me pull the trigger on our brand new 2025 Outback Wilderness.
Thanks! Haha, that’s awesome. I love Outback’s and I’m excited for you to have yours. In many ways it’s a better car than what it’s replacing, only in a few categories does my new car beat the old one. But it was just time for the next adventure and I’ve already learned a lot about each cars strength, weakness, and differences compared to each other. And even compared to our Forester. 🙂
Bummer I’m sorry to see the Outback Wilderness go! I’ve liked all the Outback Wilderness and XT coverage. So much so I’ve been seriously considering buying a 2025 Wilderness or Touring XT before the major redesign for 2026.
I really appreciate you sharing that! I still highly recommend them! It was just time for a change and with how much Subaru stuff I drive to begin with I wanted to give another platform a chance for the next couple years. 🤷♂️😅
Definitely get a 2025. I think the 2026 from what I have seen and heard of it so far will not have the same following as the current one. I am hoping it is really the new Ascent to throw people off. 🙏
Sad to see it go, but appreciative of all your OBW content as it was instrumental in my decision to buy my 2025 OBW…. Enjoy the channel and looking forward to see what you traded it in for 👍 ( I hope its not a Tesla 😂)
I’m so glad to hear that some of my videos helped you!! Same here, I only kept it a year longer than anything else because it was such a fantastic car. It felt like the civilized version of my old FJ. Powerful, capable, and silver and black lol. And to be honest, in many ways the new car is not necessarily a better one. But it’s a platform I’m excited to become more familiar with and see why so many people like them!
I had my sights set on a new Tacoma TRD OFF-ROAD but I lost my bonus at work so will need something less expensive. I’m fumbling with which Outback to buy. Speaking of Dave Ramsey, Subaru is offering 2.9% on a new Outback which is crazy good deal, looking at low 30s MSRP in a base model. However, my choice would be a used Wilderness Outback in the low 30s range, like you said, they lose their value quickly. So, do I get the new outback with low apr and pay about $2200 in interest, or go with the car I really want but pay $5000 in interest but that has gone through its biggest devaluation?
I’m sorry to hear that! It’s tough to say. Of course Dave would say to not finance a vehicle, and I’m not a CPA who can offer legal financial advice. Depreciation and interest both suck, but I’m glad I found Dave a long time ago even though what he says can be very tough advice. In my own opinion and experience the baby steps absolutely work, but in moderation! We still need to live our lives and enjoy each day. Best of luck!!
The Prime would be sweet, but they’re super rare and a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay. So it’s probably not that. 😉 Yeah, it will be interesting to see, I’m sure they’ll initially post it for more than the Subaru dealer who knows the market on those better. So ultimately they’ll probably get about the same price for it, but idk. 🤷♂️ I do know Peterson hooked me up, the price difference between the vehicles is one of the few times I’ve felt it was actually a fair amount despite all the depreciation of the Outback haha.
You sold a very good value with average miles for the three years you had it. The thing for me is that I don't have an extended warranty, when the bumper to bumper coverage runs out which now a days is when things start to go wrong and it costs a lot of money to repair. My '18 Forester which I kept for some 5 years began to have issues with front automatic windows that stopped working and some of the Eye Sight features didn't work anymore. That's when I traded it for an Imprezza hatchback, I didn't really like it as it was too low to the ground and also the motor was underpowered. After a month I traded the Imprezza for the Crosstrek and never looked back. My Crosstrek has the more powerful engine. Funny that on trade at the dealer, I broke even. They gave me the Crosstrek and grabbed the red Imprezza with no money exchanged. My Crosstrek's only downside is its skimpy cargo area, but the Imprezza didn't have more room for cargo anyway. I almost bought the Forester, but wanted to try something new. I don't plan to keep my Crosstrek beyond two years though. Would you consider testing the Toyota Crown Insignia? Good video as always.
I totally understand not wanting to keep cars long enough to have their electronics start to fall apart haha. But I will say I already miss the Outback, it’s such a great vehicle. I’d love to film a Crown, but it probably won’t be for a while. I hope to start filming more Toyota’s next year!
It was just time for me to move on. I love Subarus but I drive too many of them and wanted a new experience. The RAV4 hybrid has been a refreshing change. 🤷♂️🤪
The ’25 OBW I ordered last month just came in. I had three previous OBs. The first was a standard model decades ago. I thought I might like to try a Crosstrek, but it wasn’t for me. I kept that for two years. Once you have all the features and room, it’s hard to take a step down. The little things like the auto rear lift gate and even the eyeglass holder matter to me. I will probably always drive a Subaru. It’s the only one among the three Fords in our driveway. I got it in black and love it. I plan to run this one into the ground. Maybe.
Thanks! For whatever reason I really like silver and black combo cars. It’s 35%, the legal front limit. But in over cast days like during this video it can look much more dark.
Those are good guesses! When I bought the Outback it was by far the most expensive vehicle I had purchased up until that time. This new one is actually less expensive (slightly), and in only a few ways could even be seen as an upgrade. But still a platform I’m thrilled to experience and share with everyone!!
Thanks!! I’ll start sharing a lot about it in a few days from now. I actually made a 100 mile drive at 80mph MPG comparison video on part of my journey to drop this one off and take the new car home, the results are interesting! 🧐
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Nice! I have a few ideas as to what you may have got, but will let my curiosity rest and look for your upcoming videos. The suspense! Haha!
I'm also seriously considering ditching Subaru next time. Either a small pickup which Subaru doesn't make, or a non CVT SUV like the Bronco sport or VW Tiguan. Both have beefier engines than my current Crosstrek Sport I have.
Haha no, I don’t think I could ever spend 90k on a vehicle 🫣🤪. But I have reviewed a 392 Rubicon and it was sweet!! The new vehicle is actually less expensive than a new Wilderness.
@ I don’t know how RUclips comments work. Would you be able to put in a @everyone so that we all know when you air it?? I’m sure I am not the only one here that would love to watch it. I’ll put it on my calendar to look for it!
I’m not sure either if commenting like that would do anything like it does on other platforms. But I will make it members listed in a couple minutes and public in a few days! I just have a few other videos I want to make public first. I actually need to make a lot of videos public to get them out before they get too old. 🤪
That’s a good guess. I’m sorry I didn’t specifically mention but those photos I overlaid were just random pictures to illustrate what I was referring to. Not the specific vehicle haha. But let me tell you guys what, it’s awesome to have buttons and knobs again. 😂
I still have my 2011 Subaru Forester I did not change the Spark plug yet it’s my 2nd best Car and I got an appointment for aircon repair by Dec 9, 2024 And I still have my 2004 Toyota Tacoma the best without much trouble only change oil like my Subaru all expensive vehicles are so much trouble- my son owned an auto Repair shop in New Jersey so I know all the expensive cars that I can not afford to buy has too much Trouble - car of the rich people are too much trouble
I totally get it and know that my lack of emotional attachment to them is kind of strange haha. I think each time I trade vehicle I’m ultimately just more relieved that I won’t be financially responsible for any major issues or inconveniences in the near future with anticipated reliability and I can experience something different. 🤷♂️😅
My 2024 Crosstrek is the smoothest fastest car I’ve ever owned. The CVT is great acceleration, it really is faster than the old V6 engine with automatic transmission
I didn’t pay close attention but 44,xxx. In my final MPG test video I’ll post soon you can see likely see the odometer and that’s within 50 miles of when it was actually sold (I think).
If you like cars so much, why would you get a CVT EyeSight equipped vehicle? I've owned 3 Subaru's and the EyeSight in my most recent was very problematic, and the CVT had to be replaced under extended warranty because it was slipping at 98k. My Subaru ownership is a 2013 Legacy 2.5i, 2019 Forrester, 2022 Ascent. The non-turbo 2.5/CVT combo is absolute garbage. The turbo helps a lot, but the CVT is just terrible. My dad has the same wago you do and it's "eh" at best. Also like you I too turboed my second car(Honda civic) back in the late 90's and there have been plenty others I've built and enjoyed. If I had to get a Subaru today, it would have to be a used STi or early H6 Outback LLBean edition. Until Subaru gets rid of the CVT, I'm out on Subaru.
Dang, I’m sorry to hear that! I bought this mostly to be a sensible vehicle in that it’s very safe and good in winter. Some mornings I leave so early for therapy that I beat the snow plows on the interstate so Subarus AWD was a big selling point. The Wilderness trim added a bit of my preference/personal taste to what I want out of the vehicle to enjoy it. That’s awesome that you turbo’s your Honda haha, I bet that was a sweet ride! I have yet to drive a 3.6, they keep being bought before I make it to town to drive one haha.
@ yeah I get the sensibility of having a Subaru for what you needed it for. Makes perfect sense. I'd probably be right there with you if I were in similar circumstances. Yes, have a turboed civic in the early days was a blast, but I had to try and keep up with my friends Eclipse GS-T with a big turbo some how! 😂 I too have yet to drive a 3.6R. I hear they move, but they are gone so quickly. Oh well, maybe one day.
I had the same year and color OBW... and sold it for one reason: the CVT. I love Subaru. I love the look of their lineup. I appreciate their safety. I *used* to love their performance... until the CVT became the norm. Even then, when it is paired with the 2.0 NA and 2.5 NA engines, it's not bad. Sure, it's not FUN... but it's not bad. But on the 2.4 T engine, it's a poor match... especially on the low end. I suspect it's artificially torque-limited to reduce the chance of chain slippage (especially hearing that Cobb stopped trying to build a tune for it). And that one decision by Subaru - to pair a weak transmission in the name of fuel efficiency - drove me away from the brand.
I totally get that! Although I don’t hear about many failures, that of course has been one of the potential concerns also on my mind if I were to keep it past the powertrain warranty.
We have a 2022 Subaru Legacy Limited XT and I feel exactly the opposite about its CVT. In my opinion, it's a much more enjoyable experience than it is in the 2.5, which drones annoyingly while making no real progress.
Thankfully nearly all of the 200 mile days are behind me. But it’s funny you mention 21mpg, as you’ll hear a connection to that number in a future video. 🤪
Guessing games are fun. Sort of naturally aspirated. Need AWD or 4 WD. Enthusiast inspired. That Taco has a nice hybrid offering. But the 4 runner is the cats meow.
I don’t think I said enthusiast inspired, at least I hope I didn’t because that might not be the best way to describe the new ride haha. Well I guess what enthusiast group you’re in. 😅😉
Haha that would be sweet! But no, this is my daily driver so it has to be a well rounded and reasonable vehicle with the stage of life I’m in haha. But I’m sure the next performance car will come in another year or two.
Yeah, probably. This sounds silly now especially knowing my past history. But the plan when we got the Outback, was for me to try and keep it 10 years. That’s part of the justification for why we spent so much on it to buy the loaded out family car haha.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Totally understand the 10 year plan. We got our 2018 Outback with the same intention, then sold it to family who needed a second car when we got our 2025 Forester. The 2018 had 70k and zero problems, except a small timing belt cover oil leak. It's always good to let a vehicle go before it starts having expensive repairs.
I was shocked to see you sold your OBW! I sold my ‘18 Outback Touring 3 years ago. It gave me nothing but reliable service. I have regretted doing so. I hope you won’t. I am still looking at a 2025 OBW or a Legacy. Both will be gone for 2026 with Subaru turning the Outback into a boxy SUV instead of a lifted wagon which in my opinion is a big mistake!! Good luck with your new ride. Is it a Honda? LOL 😂. You did mention you liked the Pilot. 😂
I highly recommend getting another one, especially since you had such a good experience with your 18. In my case it was just time to get into something different and I’m glad I did. Although the new ride is in a couple ways an upgrade, in other ways it’s nots it’s hard to beat an Outback as a daily driver lol. Hopefully once heavy snow falls I don’t regret the choice. But I’m excited to share this new platform. Starting on Saturday! 😉
My guess is you are getting a Mazda CX 50 with the Toyota hybrid drivetrain. Can you give us a ballpark of how much you make from RUclips? By the way, I also do physical therapy Home Care.
That’s a really good guess! 😉 I think at this time I’d rather not provide that specific information. As you can probably guess I’m weird about wanting to stay private on the internet and not over share certain things as once they’re out, they’re out. But I also like to be helpful to anyone who wants to watch my videos, so it’s a conflicting place to be lol. Even sharing what the Wilderness has earned has been the first time I’ve in any way referenced the RUclips earnings. I will say videos are all over the place, it depends on the quality of the view for the rate per thousand views. What that means is what country is the person watching from because the ads might be more expensive to be tailored to them (say U.S. viewer vs. a lower income country viewer). Also how long someone stayed watching for how many ads were watched, and the relevancy of the video and the topic. A big one is also the “niche” you film about. Cars are an expensive product so their ads are more expensive product related, compared to say maybe an animal or nature channel on the low end or a finance channel on the expensive end. More expensive products get shown in ads to the population that appears to be interested in that stuff and likely has the money to then spend and make the advertiser cost to advertise worth it. At least that’s how I see it. Factors like that play a big role. Some of my videos that slowly grow to say 30-60k views were good quality with good retention and I’ll say well worth my time, even compared to proving therapy with my time instead. And others went micro viral like that quickly but were clicked on by the wrong audience who didn’t appreciate them and quickly clicked away and they have a very low income even though the view count looks decent and similar. It could be a 5 fold difference even! Basically it can be all over the place, but making videos I usually have a somewhat accurate speculation of what might do well at this point having done hundreds of videos. But I don’t focus on what will necessarily do well, rather this is my outlet and I just want to enjoy it. I think if someone didn’t already have a career and had started this from high-school or even new grad college they would be happy to do this full time with what it’s producing. But someone like me who’s more cautious and doesn’t want to get in over my head depending on it I still like doing both jobs for fun and don’t necessarily want to give up therapy if I can still balance the two. I think making videos full time would not be as fun as a few a week that I get to look forward to. Because completely dependent on videos would stress me out because I don’t have any control of how well the videos do once posted even though it has proven to be well worth my time, as a whole. Some videos I put more effort into don’t do as good as I think they should, others with less effort have surprisingly done pretty decent. So overall having a few hundred videos my channel surprises me with how decent it’s been. Ultimately I don’t want to be focused on my videos doing well like I am being micromanaged about minutes, group, and billing in therapy. That’s part of the fun of this for me, it’s a creative outlet and I have no idea if a video will do well or not. But I don’t have to sit here and feel like a failure or my “work day” was wasted if a video flops, because I’m not dependent on it and at the end of the day I was able to drive a cool new car and gain some experience. I hope this helps! And very cool, physical therapy!! 🍻
I leased two Outbacks. Just turned in my second and leased an Ioniq 5. I might return if Subaru even builds their own EV but I won't touch a re-badged Toyota.
I really enjoyed the Outback, but holy cow does it feel nice to have those physical buttons again haha. I hope you enjoy your Hyundai, those are cool!!
We had a 22 Outback Limited we bought for the wife on 9/11/21. This August we traded it for a 2025 Forester Limited. I looked at RAVS,Hondas, and Lexus, but decided to stick with Subaru (number 10.) The Outback only had 13k miles on it, but there were issues. A few recalls, thin paint causing rock chipping, tiny touch heater controls instead of real knobs, the auto stop was horrible on the boxer engine, the driver monitor system that had to be disabled each time I drove it, and loud, slow and noisy 2.5. The final straw on why I sent it down the road was due to AC failure three times, and the drivers seat (leather) had a seam tear that didn’t show but i noticed was there when I was cleaning it. I take care of my cars-our Outback was in pristine condition and still smelled new inside. But I’d had enough and have been watching Subaru quality slide downhill for decades. The car was still at the dealership service waiting for an AC expansion valve on national back order when I traded it. So far the Forester is much improved over the Outback, especially the redesigned boxer and CVT which do a much better job moving the car. Time will tell if this one will problem free.
Dang, I’m sorry to hear you’ve had so many problems with the Outback! I’d speculate those cases are few and far between, but every company puts out some lemons and I’m sorry you ended up with one. Our 2025 Forester has also been flatly, however at only 2,000 miles that basically means nothing haha.
Is the 2025 Forester powertrain notably better than the previous generation? I really like the Forester for a lot of reasons but my sister has owned three of them (15, 18 and 24) and every time I've driven them, I'm completely underwhelmed by the 2.5 engine/CVT combo. Slow (except the initial 30 mph or so) and loud.
@@nyrocks5580 I guess it will be mostly the same hybrid power train but drive train might slightly change because Subaru might mostly stick with their symmetrical AWD system. We don't have full details yet, we have to wait and see. But they are definitely borrowing Toyota's hybrid system. Recently Mazda released CX-50 with exactly the same Hybrid power train of Toyota used in Rav4 hybrid.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 continuing the hybrid theme, the new Tucson hybrid? I test drove one and liked it before settling on a 2025 Mazda TPP which I love. Just drove it to Calgary and back to Michigan on an extended road trip of about 4200 miles. Love it!
Another good guess but no, you’re hot on my trail though haha. I’m excited to share a number of videos of it soon and explaining why I choice the specific model I had but probably not for a few more days. I’m glad you ended up with the right car for you!! Mazdas are awesome. 🤩
Haha yeah, it was an incredibly well balanced car. But I get bored with cars and want to try new experiences and not start to worry about reliability or electronics going out as vehicles begin to age. I’ve actually already learned so much better how the OB compares to the new car that I’m excited to share with everyone soon! Both good and bad lol.
Well I'd love to see you do a 5 year car review. I bought my 2019 KIA Sorento ex v6 awd back in 2021. Now has 70000 miles and still going good. I always watch your content. I had a leased 21 Crosstrek but always looking down the road what to replace my 19 Kia with eventually.
oh wow i'm also a physical therapist (DPT). Could i ask what setting you work in? Hopefully u arent one of the ppl who went to a crazy expensive program and is struggling from the debt to income ratio
That’s awesome!! I’m not a DPT, I’m just very use to introducing myself saying I do or provide “physical therapy” to avoid introducing confusion for the patients of the degree/licensing differences. I was accepted into a high regarded PTA program during the second half of my bachelors, which was my big goal since high-school to then be able to start working at a younger age. I also worked full time through college and the route I went meant very little debt. Which is a huge blessing. The plan was actually to work a year after graduation to save up to pay as I went for a DPT or one of the few bridge programs after that first year of experience. But I ultimately just worked a lot instead and had fun especially those first few years with a full time gig and up to 2 PRN jobs. All geriatric like SNFs and Home health or basically geriatric outpatient. It took a couple years to be settled with the fact that I was deciding not to pursue DPT, and now I’m confident I made the right choice with how the field and financial constraints have changed. I guess maybe someday that could change. But I have had multiple OT/ST co workers who have shared they’re in over 100k of school debt and don’t even gross that much in a year, very sad and crippling like you said haha. What settings have you mostly experienced? At least geriatric settings seem to on average pay more than outpatient or hospitals, but they’re definitely not for everyone. But I like old(er) people haha. 🤪
Haha, they’ll still be plenty of Subaru videos. Just not random updates on my own Outback example. But I have some good videos coming on how it compares to the new car. The results are different than I expected even in the short time since the trade happened.
@ do you think you will go back to a Subaru again? Have you seen the new 2026 Honda Passport Trailsport Elite?! I wouldn’t mind having that as well!! I wish the Outback had the rear controls for the hvac like the Hondas and Ascent do!
I would absolutely buy another Subaru, especially one that speaks to me like the Wilderness example. I actually would like for us to always own one as your winter/family car. I haven’t watched anything on the new Honda yet, but I’ve seen some pictures and it looks sweet! And let me just say, I love having physical buttons and knobs again. 🤩
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 There is an unbelievable amount of confusion out there about the climate settings when remote starting the vehicle. The Mazda app is almost laughably basic in that it just allows start/stop with no in app climate settings. Some owners are saying the HVAC and seats and steering wheel will come on if the climate in the vehicle is set to auto, some say no it does not until you enter the car and press the start button. I live in Saskatchewan Canada where the winter temps can get to -30. I really want the vehicle to be properly warm inside when I remote start the thing in the winter
Oh, that is a good question. I don’t know of any car RUclips channels that own a Mazda. But I can ask the dealer if they know how that works. Without owning one I won’t be able to get app access to a car. So I hope I end up being able to find an answer for you in a future filmed video, best of luck!!
Haha, that’s a good guess. But I don’t know that I would ever want to own an Audi. I like reliability and ease of maintenance, which is not often associated with German engineering…😬
Yeah, probably. But I don’t often do vloggy type videos or channel updates for those who regularly follow and are interested to know more of this stuff. So maybe a couple times a year I’ll share a video like this. 🤷♂️🤪
I was very fortunate in that I owned the Outback outright, and was able to write a check for the difference in trade in. The new vehicle cost less than what I bought my Subaru for 3 years ago, so I mostly just paid for it’s depreciation haha.
Haha, I would love a 5th gen 4Runner. But I made this video to publicly hold me accountable to not do it. 7 MAJOR Flaws that RUIN the 2024 Toyota 4Runner. ruclips.net/video/tS9HpFeqnQU/видео.html
Those photos of the physical features it will have?? Haha, I’m so sorry, if that’s what you’re referring to those were just random examples o used to visually show what I was verbally referring to. 😅 But a CX90 is a great guess, those are cool SUVs!
I bet you could not say you had no problems with that outback after 180k if you're lucky not like my 91 Subaru legacy sedan 350k going strong head gaskets done ones I bought the car with 120k on it for $500 ol subetsy will stay with me for as long as I'll be alive
I am curious how far it could have gone still trouble free. But maybe whoever buys it will eventually find one of its videos and be able to share how it’s doing, lol. 🤪
I can almost guarantee it will need a new engine before 160k miles turbo Subaru engines just don't hold up in a longevity too many failure points for a boxer engine and a turbo very rarely do I see them make it past 160 anyway
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 with all that being said Subarus are my favorite if they are 2010 and older but the outback wilderness looks mean as can be I do like the look I just wish Subaru would have stayed to the original roots their cars are just getting too big and the quality is just going down
By next weekend at the latest! There’s a few other videos I want to put out first. And I’ll have a few interesting videos come out right after that which I’ll film this week about what I’ve already learned about the new platform and how it compares to the Outback!
Haha you and me both! I loved the one I had when I was in college and literally only put like 14k miles on it in the typical 2 years I keep anything. 😅 But as a car enthusiast it was kind of boring and sandwiched between me owning the 2 supercharged V6 cars I’ve had.
Here is the problem, there is nothing out there that is remotely the same. There is no other vesicle that is going to scratch that itch in so many boxes that a Subaru does. And if you wanted something sporty why not the new WRX TS? As in Tuned by STI! Sure there are other cars that are faster but they suck in the snow, or can't go offroad. Sure there are better offroad ride out there but they suck on the road and they suck in the snow! There simply is nothing like a Subaru! Your going to miss it, as the new ride is not going to remotely be anything like a Subaru never mind the OBW! You kept it for 3 years that is a record! There is a reason you kept it. I have a feeling you will gravitate back soon. And last but not least....BOOOOOO! 😊
Hahaha, I agree with everything you said. But I think it will be good to test this platform for my own understanding and to share with others what it’s like to drive mostly a FWD vehicle in the winter again. I haven’t done that since high school haha. I’m curious to know if it’s good enough, and with better tires if it’s anywhere close to the Subaru experience or if it’s more on the sketchy end of the spectrum and I don’t recommend it for wintery states. Now that we have a Forester in the garage I felt I could play around a bit more and if this doesn’t work out I’ll just drive that in my longer distance therapy traveling (sometimes before snow plows are out). 😬
200 miles a DAY on a new car is literally throwing money away. It's like taking an automatic 500-1000 a month pay decrease. Maybe you could argue you could take the tax write offs, but not for a Subaru. $.67 a mile is nice, but good lord. I take that on my 30 year old F250 and 23 year old Pontiac Vibe. Also, I will NEVER understand the "maintenance" argument, I have spent $600 total on maintenance for my two vehicles. Bought the f250 for $5000 and the Vibe was $1,400... I just... I don't know I guess it's an ego thing? You NEED the fancy new whatever? Subaru? I'm so confused... is it just conspicuous consumption?
I absolutely agree that nobody ‘needs’ a new car and it is ultimately throwing money away. But also money is a tool that beyond providing the basic necessities it can be used in ways that make life more fun and lower stress. For me, as a car enthusiast who’s had an engine and a couple transmissions fail that were not expected to fail, I like to spend surplus money on having a new driving experience in a reliable car every few years. It really helps to give me that peace of mind that I want, especially with all the driving I do for my jobs and being overly sensitive to driving a vehicle that’s proven to be somewhat safe. But also it’s fun. 😅 I will say that this new car was less expensive than even a new Outback Wilderness to help combat some of the loss I always take. 😝
I'd love a new car...the monthly payments are outrageous, so I can't afford one. I keep driving what's already paid for, and just keep up on the maintenance. 1999 F250 SD 4x4 with the V10, and a 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited. The F250 sits most of the time unless I need to haul or tow anything, as I don't see the point in driving an HD truck as a daily driver LOL. A new car would be nice, but it looks like the Wilderness option for the Forester is gone, which was what I was looking at, then realized that carries almost a $700 a month payment and with less than good credit it makes no sense to spend that kind of money on a car every month. Was looking at the Wilderness for the additional ground clearance as the snow kind of gets deep in my area at times. For the prices on vehicles anymore I'll just save the money and just keep maintaining what I have. The F250 needed new spark plugs and coil packs when I got it a couple years ago....the previous owner only drove it once or twice a year when they wanted to pull their travel trailer...it had 179k on it when I bought it, paid $4,000 for it, hauls and tows what I need it for. I bought the Jeep Liberty earlier this year to replace my Ford Ranger that had a wiring harness melt down....as I just needed something to get around in regardless of weather conditions, and ran across the Liberty in excellent condition 127k on it when I bought it, fully loaded and the only thing I've done is a couple oil changes on it since I got it in May. Neither vehicle I own is extremely fuel efficient but they do what I need them to do, and not having a car payment is far more important....and the used car market is finally slowing a bit it seems and prices starting to go down a little.
I totally get that. If you don’t have new car disease like I do then they’re just not worth it for most people haha. It’s typically many times more cost effective to maintain an older car than to be maintaining and throwing away money on depreciation or depreciation and interest of a new one. 😅🫣
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 That's how I look at it. However, one of the local Subaru dealerships have certified pre-owned Subarus that carry a 10 year 100k warranty that might be a great option for me. I don't particularly need a brand new car, but something newer would certainly be welcomed, so a certified pre-owned might be a good route for me to take in the future, especially if I can pickup a nice Forester Wilderness. I've bought 2 brand new vehicles in the past, and even being new they had issues, which even being under warranty was a struggle to deal with the dealership to get things fixed that were faulty production issues, even bringing in the TSB's to the dealer pointing out that the manufacturer knows of the defects to get them to fix stuff....so new isn't exactly guaranteeing a trouble free vehicle. It seems that maybe if the Subaru dealer is offering a warranty like that on their certified pre-owned cars, that maybe its worth looking into, and maybe means they actually inspected the vehicle and fixed things that were wrong...most used cars are sold AS-IS no warranty, etc. so a newer car with a warranty would be great. My understanding is the Forester and Outback Wilderness models provide the same options over all with a little more ground clearance, a little bit of coloring differences and slightly more aggressive tires, and the AWD systems are basically the same, but the Wilderness model adds a transmission cooler as well to both the Forester and the Outback. I spoke with one salesman a while back at one of the dealerships, and he was really helpful, but there's always the questions you have after the fact. Do all Subaru dealerships have a rental program? The one I went to you can rent one for a day....I thought about doing so and renting the Forester Wilderness one day, and the Outback Wilderness for a day and doing my daily routine and then packing each one with gear I'd go camping with and see what works best and go from there. In my opinion, the ability to rent the car you are thinking of buying for even the day would be a very useful way to find out if the car would fit your needs....driving a car around the block on a test drive is totally pointless, any vehicle can do that LOL.
I had my sights on getting a Subaru, but now after watching your latest video, it looks like I may have to switch to something else. I'm confused about what to get now. :(
I have no reason to not recommend a Subaru! For their cost I think they’re AWD and safety is as good as it gets. In many ways my new vehicle isn’t actually better, but a platform I just am personally curious to experience and share about. And already I can tell you I miss a few things about the Subaru haha. But that’s okay, most of it I knew going into the trade.
Best vehicle and then you end up selling it only to be buying another one just hardly made any sense . Seems like you have zero intention of keeping them for the long run. And some people wonder why vehicles are not reliable when they just don't know what the heck they want in a vehicle. Just stick to use car if you had no intention of keeping them for the long run.
I’m sorry that this likely isn’t your type of video. I rarely do “vlogging” type videos, but this was more of that to provide a lot of back ground and context for those who follow my Subaru stuff.
Haha right? That mileage was mostly my first year working physically therapy and occasional weekend days doing PRN therapy work. I stopped most of that extra therapy in far away towns and remote home health a couple years ago due to the burnout and now filming cars in my free time. Work life balance is a lot better now lol.
That’s a good guess! I would love another Tacoma, but the back seats are quite small, so it’s probably not that. But someday I’d love to own another one!!
I certainly have been fortunate to have the means to trade out vehicles fairly often. But part of that blessing and current ability to do so came from delaying gratification when I was a bit younger and paying off debt like crazy, working a lot and taking good opportunities as they are presented as well as compensation in other areas where a lot of my peers may splurge that I don’t have that same interest in (expensive- food, vacation, cloths, collectibles, and excessive time off work, etc). But also, I’m a car enthusiast and my interests or life needs and how the vehicles fit in are constantly changing haha.
"It's the best vehicle I've owned." But, I sold it.
Edit: this is actually just like the Miata I had. It still to this day is the most fun vehicle that I have driven, in my opinion. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I still need to own one.
Brevity is a virtue.
i think this comment flew over the creators head.
Blah blah blah....I guess we need to know what he went to college for?
Came to learn if there is anything of concern regarding Outback Wilderness instead learned about vlogger's educational background.
Thanks for your videos
The search for the perfect car continues...
Haha, it’s a tough life being a car enthusiast. 🤪 But thanks for watching!!
You can get the new 2026 Honda passport
It's on my short list. Certainly looks great.
Yeah, that new design looks sweet! I haven’t read up or watched any videos on it yet. But good job Honda!
Will not be out until possibly Spring
I drive maybe 10,000 miles per year or less. I buy new but give low mileage almost new cars to my kids. They keep the cars for a long time.
That’s awesome!!
@ Yes it appears the Outback will become another boxy SUV in the sea of already too many boxy SUV designs.
Best of luck!!
used car interest rates are insane.....
Will it be the Toyota Rav 4 Prime? Keep your eyes on the dealer website where you traded it in, you might be shocked what they sell it for.
The Prime would be sweet, but they’re super rare and a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay. So it’s probably not that. 😉
Yeah, it will be interesting to see, I’m sure they’ll initially post it for more than the Subaru dealer who knows the market on those better.
Why did you sell it? The 2026 Outback looks unbelievably bad.
It was just time for me to move on. I love Subarus but I drive too many of them and wanted a new experience. The RAV4 hybrid has been a refreshing change. 🤷♂️🤪
Did you switch to the crown signia ???
😬🤔 I will say I’ve heard a lot of people like those!
Maybe.
That’s awesome! I feel the same way. Not every vehicle we own needs to be a Subaru, as long as we always have one haha.
What percentage tint is in the front windows nice looking outback.
Thanks! For whatever reason I really like silver and black combo cars. It’s 35%, the legal front limit. But in over cast days like during this video it can look much more dark.
I would say Toyota Signia Wagon, or Lexus ES Wagon would be a good replacement. Both are more refined and will feel like an upgrade.
Those are good guesses! When I bought the Outback it was by far the most expensive vehicle I had purchased up until that time. This new one is actually less expensive (slightly), and in only a few ways could even be seen as an upgrade. But still a platform I’m thrilled to experience and share with everyone!!
Looking forward to seeing the new ride!
Haha!
Sold mine after less than a year. Too much cabin noise, no technology and head unit was a disaster
Thanks for sharing this, but I’m sorry that was your experience!
I’m thinking it’ll be a Honda Passport Trailsport
That’s a good guess. The new Passport looks sweet haha.
I'm also seriously considering ditching Subaru next time. Either a small pickup which Subaru doesn't make, or a non CVT SUV like the Bronco sport or VW Tiguan. Both have beefier engines than my current Crosstrek Sport I have.
Did you get a Jeep 392?
Haha no, I don’t think I could ever spend 90k on a vehicle 🫣🤪. But I have reviewed a 392 Rubicon and it was sweet!! The new vehicle is actually less expensive than a new Wilderness.
When are you revealing your new wheels?
I’ll plan to put the two videos I have on it so far on the membership program by tonight! 😉
Im guessing a Mazda CX-5 na. Those climate control buttons looked like that. And they can be had for 35K.
Nope, I don't even think that was any type of Mazda
That’s a good guess. I’m sorry I didn’t specifically mention but those photos I overlaid were just random pictures to illustrate what I was referring to. Not the specific vehicle haha. But let me tell you guys what, it’s awesome to have buttons and knobs again. 😂
I am guessing a Toyota RAV-4 Hybrid. You let it slip in that video review you were wanting to purchase it.
That’s a good guess! But of course I cannot confirm or deny this. 🤪
I still have my 2011 Subaru Forester I did not change the Spark plug yet it’s my 2nd best Car and I got an appointment for aircon repair by Dec 9, 2024
And I still have my 2004 Toyota Tacoma the best without much trouble only change oil like my Subaru all expensive vehicles are so much trouble- my son owned an auto Repair shop in New Jersey so I know all the expensive cars that I can not afford to buy has too much Trouble - car of the rich people are too much trouble
I’m sad when I sell a car and move on, I even name my vehicle 😊. Everyone is different. Wish you all the best!
I totally get it and know that my lack of emotional attachment to them is kind of strange haha. I think each time I trade vehicle I’m ultimately just more relieved that I won’t be financially responsible for any major issues or inconveniences in the near future with anticipated reliability and I can experience something different. 🤷♂️😅
@ I understand;)
My 2024 Crosstrek is the smoothest fastest car I’ve ever owned. The CVT is great acceleration, it really is faster than the old V6 engine with automatic transmission
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it, thanks for sharing!!
What was your final mileage?
Given the new car will be “to some extent naturally aspirated”, my guesses are either the new Camry or an Accord Hybrid.
Great guesses! Haha, by saying that I did really narrow down the potential type of powertrain it has. 🤪
I assume you're getting a Mazda CX-50 hybrid since Toyota's hybrid powertrain doesn't need a stop/start button.
Haha, that’s a very cleaver thought!
Since you drive 50 - 200 miles per day I would think you'd want a car that gets better than 21 mpg/city.
Honda Passport Trailsport!
That’s a good guess!
you lost me at ".. when historically I keep vehicles only for 2 years..".
We hopefully you go with something truly performance oriented, say a Supra?
Haha that would be sweet! But no, this is my daily driver so it has to be a well rounded and reasonable vehicle with the stage of life I’m in haha. But I’m sure the next performance car will come in another year or two.
Honda V6 suv or Mazda 2.5 non-turbo or Nissan V6 suv
Those are good guesses!
Cx-50 hybrid?
That’s a good guess!!
2026 Rav 4 Hybrid maybe
That’s a good guess! 😉
Price wise you did well. If you leased it 3yr/36k...it would have probably cost $12k plus the cost for the addition 8k mileage ($2k).
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208looking forward to seeing your new ride on Saturday!
My guess is you are getting a Mazda CX 50 with the Toyota hybrid drivetrain. Can you give us a ballpark of how much you make from RUclips? By the way, I also do physical therapy Home Care.
That’s a really good guess! 😉
I think at this time I’d rather not provide that specific information.
I’m guessing a Corolla Cross Hybrid.
That’s a really good guess!
We had a 22 Outback Limited we bought for the wife on 9/11/21.
This August we traded it for a 2025 Forester Limited.
I looked at RAVS,Hondas, and Lexus, but decided to stick with Subaru (number 10.)
The Outback only had 13k miles on it, but there were issues.
@@nyrocks5580Subaru is in partnership with Toyota and going to use Toyota's hybrid system in 2026 Forester. Wait until then don't buy the 2025 model.
@@Gopinathk17, thx. Will it be the same setup as in the RAV4? I'm guessing it does a pretty good job moving it along? I've never driven one.
Honda CR-V hybrid?
That’s a good guess! You’re actually the first one to mention the CR-V.
Kinda shocked you sold your OB. You loved it I thought.
I hope someday I can keep a car for 5 years. 😅
oh wow i'm also a physical therapist (DPT).
Well there goes my Subaru videos.
@ I could see you in a 2026 Outback Wilderness or a 2026 Honda Passport Elite. I’m just saying.
I'm thinking Mazda CX-50 Hybrid as your next car.
That’s a really good guess!!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I really hope it is, because I've got questions!!
Haha, if it’s not I’ll at least drive them soon! So still ask your questions so I can try and cover those topics when I film!!
ENJOY YOUR AUDI A3 !!!!! Winner!
Haha, that’s a good guess. But I don’t know that I would ever want to own an Audi. I like reliability and ease of maintenance, which is not often associated with German engineering…😬
Mazda cx50?
That’s a good guess!
Wow, this video could have been 2 min. long.
Yeah, probably. But I don’t often do vloggy type videos or channel updates for those who regularly follow and are interested to know more of this stuff. So maybe a couple times a year I’ll share a video like this. 🤷♂️🤪
Rav4 prime?
Primes seem really cool. But more expensive than I want to pay and also hard to find. But that’s a great guess that might not be far off! 😉
How much was the negative equity that you had to carry if any once you got a new vehicle
I was very fortunate in that I owned the Outback outright, and was able to write a check for the difference in trade in. The new vehicle cost less than what I bought my Subaru for 3 years ago, so I mostly just paid for it’s depreciation haha.
Your buying a 2024 4Runner
Haha, I would love a 5th gen 4Runner. But I made this video to publicly hold me accountable to not do it.
7 MAJOR Flaws that RUIN the 2024 Toyota 4Runner.
ruclips.net/video/tS9HpFeqnQU/видео.html
The 2 photos in the video look Mazda-esque.🧐 And as it's a family style vehicle, so my guess it's a CX90?🤔
Those photos of the physical features it will have?? Haha, I’m so sorry, if that’s what you’re referring to those were just random examples o used to visually show what I was verbally referring to. 😅 But a CX90 is a great guess, those are cool SUVs!
Guessing you got a Camry hybrid.
That’s a good guess!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 with all that being said Subarus are my favorite if they are 2010 and older but the outback wilderness looks mean as can be I do like the look I just wish Subaru would have stayed to the original roots their cars are just getting too big and the quality is just going down
RAV4 prime is my guess
That’s a good guess! But those are pricey and hard to find. 🧐🤔
@ when is the reveal video coming out?
By next weekend at the latest! There’s a few other videos I want to put out first. And I’ll have a few interesting videos come out right after that which I’ll film this week about what I’ve already learned about the new platform and how it compares to the Outback!
If Toyota still made a Tacoma regular cab, there would be one in my garage as soon as the transmission issues get worked out.
Haha you and me both! I loved the one I had when I was in college and literally only put like 14k miles on it in the typical 2 years I keep anything. 😅 But as a car enthusiast it was kind of boring and sandwiched between me owning the 2 supercharged V6 cars I’ve had.
Like your videos. I would never buy a cvt
The new one may or may not have a CVT haha. 😉
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Looking forward to your take on a FWD system.
In my opinion, the ability to rent the car you are thinking of buying for even the day would be a very useful way to find out if the car would fit your needs....driving a car around the block on a test drive is totally pointless, any vehicle can do that LOL.
toyota Land Cruiser or 4runner (2024)
Those are really good guesses, and I do really like both of those SUVs! 🤩
Pilot trailsport!
That’s a good guess! I did really like the Pilot I drove recently, Honda did well with it!
I had my sights on getting a Subaru, but now after watching your latest video, it looks like I may have to switch to something else. I'm confused about what to get now. :(
What exactly are you concerned about? Devaluation?
Just stick to use car if you had no intention of keeping them for the long run.
your describing mazda
Maybe 😉🫣
I clicked on the link because of the title. I’m 6 minutes in and I’ve heard you repeat your list of cars. Twice. Zzzzz
I’m sorry that this likely isn’t your type of video. I rarely do “vlogging” type videos, but this was more of that to provide a lot of back ground and context for those who follow my Subaru stuff.

200 miles a day is too much driving, you need to make some life changes
Haha right? That mileage was mostly my first year working physically therapy and occasional weekend days doing PRN therapy work. I stopped most of that extra therapy in far away towns and remote home health a couple years ago due to the burnout and now filming cars in my free time. Work life balance is a lot better now lol.

Not enough info on the Subaru. I gave a thumbs down. 😮
This thing is so fugly and than hauling ass CVT underpowered base engine ... No thanks
Since your subaru is for sale at a toyota dealership, I bet you got a new tacoma
That’s a good guess! I would love another Tacoma, but the back seats are quite small, so it’s probably not that. But someday I’d love to own another one!!
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 thanks for all you do. I bought a 2025 outback yesterday because of your great reviews. I love it so far
I’m so glad my videos were helpful to you!! Enjoy that sweet ride, for the both of us now haha.
I think you’re just wealthy and don’t know what you want. You had a lot of different cars and don’t keep them long.
Mazda CX-70 Hybrid plug in.
That’s a good one, those are fun to drive! But a bit more expensive than I feel comfortable spending for a daily driver haha.
Your getting a Mazda CX5
That’s a good guess!
