I can personally tell you what a gross annual income of $180,000 looks like, and it's not as much as you think. Living 30 miles north of Portland, 2,900sqft house. No boat, some debt, can't afford to live any closer and still have a house.
Now add 401k and bills and you’ll have none left
So you're saving for retirement and covering your expenses. You live in an area with low crime. BLM didn't actually burn down the city in 2020 (though I stayed away from downtown, too). Good roads, clean water, clean air, safe cars, tenant protections, etc.
Welcome to Portland Oregon where its legal to smoke crack but illegal to pump your own gas.

Welcome to Oregon where they made an attempt to create more jobs
If you're working at Nike headquarters, try to find a place in a smaller suburb west of Portland. Headquarters are actually outside of Portland proper so Hillsborough, Beaverton, or Tigard are your best bet. They're in a neighboring County with fewer social service taxes and lower property taxes. As a bonus - trust me - you do NOT want to commute from Portland to Beaverton every day. It's a short commute but often gridlocked during the week
Tigard is full
Also, cleanest Popeye's in the world is right next to the campus. If Popeye's was this nice everywhere it would actually have a chance to beat Chik-Fil-A.
Who would ever want to live in Beaverton though?

Right? I was thinking that’s not too bad what about those living here with more common annual payments? 200k isn’t average for Portland
Percentage-wise? People who make less pay at lower tax rates.

Good luck finding a job in Oregon that pays anything close to that. Most are around 40k
portland used to be nice, i grew up 45 mins away. but over the last 10 years i avoid it like the plague. homeless camps EVERYWHERE, garbage piles as common as the homeless camps. people strung out literally leaning against the police station wall. the roads are confusing as hell with one ways combined with train rails, bus lanes and bike lanes. learning to drive there is like learning to drive all over again. just feels gross and sketchy. and people pay 2k a month to be crammed in like sardines into a 2 bedroom apartment.
I live in portland, my salary is also around 200k, that is without deductions, I average 24% tax. it is high but we get a lot for it.
Exactly.... stupid misleading video. If they're serious, they really should hire an a CPA to do their taxes. No deductions? C'mon
I paid more taxes in texas than in oregon. Property taxes in texas are no joke. 20k a year just in property taxes on top 8.25% sales tax on everything you buy. their public parks are kids parks, they do not have real recreational areas like we do in oregon.
Not trashing texas, texas has it’s own set of benefits like cheaper houses better and newer houses, better road infrastructure, cheap meat etc. It is just preference on life style. I like the mountains, fishing and a more outdoor life style.
In texas is more a city life, they do have outdoor activities like off-roading but it is expensive, while you can go most camping site in oregon in any car.
But look at everything your taxes get you. No crime, no homeless, great schools.
Hah.
No but the taxes are going to such great causes! Like turning half of the roads into hazardously shaped parking and concrete medians.

And as a preschool teacher I got near no benefits and was paid what would have been less than minimum wage in Washington
