I watched this on tv live and was so stressed in that second set, Elena took forever to close it out.. I actually really liked soarez's game, especially that forehand.. She had a great run at Wimbledon right after this too then kinda faded away
Suarez was a really cute player. Really nice demeanor, solid game and an excellent topspin lob. She also probably should've made the SFs in 2002, instead losing to Fernandez.
Paola Suarez was a great player back in the day. She tried a singles comeback after her injury which caused her to miss most of 2005. Always found it criminal that Lisa Raymond got a HoF nomination before Paola or VRP for doubles 😭.
I agree. Suarez has a better singles and doubles career than Lisa Raymond, and VRP has a better doubles career than both. This HOF thing is full of American bias. Same thing happened when McEnroe was inducted earlier than Lendl, and when garbage one slam wonders Roddick and Chang got inducted earlier than Kafelnikov. Simply ridiculous and disgusting.
@@najeehall1210 Both Suarez and Ruano Pascual have been number one and Olympic medalists, and they won many more GS titles than Raymond. No one said she shouldn't be nominated, but definitely shouldn't be before Suarez and Ruano Pascual, especially when they both retired earlier than Raymond.
@@joachimrogister7632 well I am sure in Belgium you get different commentators, but in the match I uploaded Elena/Nastya Moscow 05 QF, who is the male commentator? I just started preparing several uploads with him as a commentator and he has quite the personality...but it is French Eurosport, no idea if you know who it is
@@joachimrogister7632 thank you so much...the Moscow 06 matches have both of them in the commentary and Frederic sounds like he is high or drunk for most of the matches. I can understand 70-75% of what they say but not everything...Sarah Pitkowksi in the 04 RG QF was saying some not very nice things about Elena, I much prefer Alexia to Sarah.
Thank you very much :) I was so desperate to see this and I even bought this match online some months ago haha but like you said, it was not a bad match. Later we had much worse semi finals, for example Kuznetsova/Chakvetdaze US Open 2007.
I’m not sure why she was there but I do remember her saying something along the lines of she never thought a player as basic as Myskina could win a slam. Iirc it was partly the result of this tournament that inspired her to come back to tennis.
@@Ehs321 Aah never knew that. I guess she was not that basic then because Myskina beat her ass in 2002 lol. What I do remember also is the phenomenal 2005 season Mary Pierce had , aged 30 then, inspired her also to come back, which she did in 2006. Too bad it only lasted until 2007.

Lisa has won all 4 slams, been number one, and is an Olympic medalist. Her nomination is justified.

Do you have the same copy as I do? I hate these Italian commentators so much. Glad you enjoyed though :)
No, my copy is from ESPN :)
Anyone know what Martina Hingis was doing here at the 2004 French Open? Did she present a trophy or something?
