  • In June 2001 we see trains at several locations on both the Victoria & Port Alberni subdivisions with GP10 1001, and dynamic braked GP38s 3870, 3876 (high hood) & 3877. The steep climb out of Port Alberni and the winding track with several trestles along Cameron Lake are particularly impressive. Having just spent 3 weeks on Vancouver Island the railway would make a fabulous tourist trap if any entrepreneur would take it on. Had I been younger I would've put a bid in for it! Would make a tourist attraction without doubt.

    At 3:51, was that a K5lar24, or a custom tuned K3L / K3H?

Lived on the island most my life and one story that seemed to go around was of a steam train loaded with model t cars and whiskey or some other treasures all went to the bottom of the lake off one of the trestles along Cameron Lake ? Is there anyone that knows if there's any truth to that ?

Too bad it's mostly all gone.
I visited Wellcox Yard in Nanaimo May 2015 and it looks as though everything is just about ready to be wrapped up for good.

MASSEY JONES Unfortunately that is the situation on both coasts of Canada. Yesterday I filmed the last locomotives leaving Sydney Nova Scotia - that line to St Peters Junction will soon be wrapped up for good.

+Cold War There is a group trying to save the line on Cape Breton Island and the government is developing new rules to govern abandonment. G&W can apply after 1 April 2016 for an abandonment hearing. Personally I do not see an easy solution - it is going to cost a lot of government money to keep the line open and the potential customers are all small volume shippers.
