the canes are the final product. a cane is a long strip of glass encased in an outer layer of glass. It's a term used in the glass industry. someone would then buy the cane and apply it to their glass art while in the hot shop. there are many different ways you can use the colored (canes) glass rods. its a very fascinating thing glass is
you guys do realize that this is a cane in the world of glass artisans right? so many people getting but hurt over their lack of understanding of a form of art and its terms
Could glass have a soft enough viscosity that it would pour into an anthill and manage to fill the whole thing up before cooling and hardening? I've seen a lot of molten lead ant hill sculpture but never one out of colored glass which I imagine would look beautiful in the sunlight. The problem is I'm assuming the molten glass would be too think even at extremely high temps and cool too quickly to leak all the way into the ant hill.
I thought music fit the video. Better than most music I hear on some channels. The tutorials sometimes have annoying music. I was good with this choice.
+Izeck Kattz the glass is called "cane" once it's been pulled into a long thin piece. Watch the 2nd Video to see how we line it up and pick it up around a bubble to make a vessel
@@zzionkitty I have to kind of giggle at the assumption that you were making a glass cane. However, it is glass making term that many might not know. I know because I love glass and like learning about it.
Well clearly the majority who are not glass blowers don't know hence forth we expected the first thing that we think of when the word cane is used and someone said you would only be able to have it a as a decretive piece... Nothing wrong with that and what about if the cane was tempered with a metal tip with two thin metal rods and a metal cap on the hilt aka handle would not suffice? As I said before it was a waste of time for me and many others...
The Giveaway Channel well in that case I feel sorry for all the people out there who searched for glory hole and came across some informative glass tutorials.
the only one salty here is you I mean that's like you clicking on something you don't understand properly say for example football greatest moments and then not seeing any goals yours gonna be like why are they good moments ya know the title is misleading he should have maybe explained it a bit better to people who clearly don't know anything about glass making but enjoy the making of it that's not a bad thing is it
Could have been a great video like the other glass working videos but your cameraman sucked because he zoomed in so close so often we can't watch your work and see everything you are doing.
Anyone else find the music mildly unsettling?
+Hunter Greene ruclips.net/video/a1-7XJa26dQ/видео.html
Yep
Yeah. Awful. I just muted it. That combined with the dizzying visuals was not the best.
You guys are crazy, the music and the camera work made this video awesome
I love glass and collect it. Doesn't matter if it is worth much or is more expensive. Thank you for sharing your craft. . I enjoyed the video.
Despite the negative comments, I think it was a beautiful video. :)
If you watched the second part of our video, you might learn something
Why is this soo satisfying
It's almost been 7 years and I still haven't seen the final product

I'm sad because I thought this was going to be a video of the creation of a walking stick made of glass... Not what I expected but still fascinating.
well most people in the glass industry refer to encased rods as canes. its a long rod of glass
you guys do realize that this is a cane in the world of glass artisans right? so many people getting but hurt over their lack of understanding of a form of art and its terms
These are the people that laugh and giggle when they hear the word gloryhole and blower
Wonderful theme song!
"Indra" by Thievery Corporation, off the album Mirror Conspiracy.

it would probably cool too fast from contact with dirt and solidify some 10-20 cm down the hill
No.
no, pencil sized cane can air anneal without shattering. you carefully reheat them for final use, and then anneal the piece when its done.
Diggin' the Thievery Corp track too!
That was really cool! (And I loved the "oriental" music too.) Thanks for showing us how these canes are made.) Cheers from Australia, Rolf

Cane is thin colored pieces of glass in lamp working they use this to add color to the glass.
Title doesn't say "making a glass cane" just making glass cane which they are doing
How impractical is every ornament ever? But that's exactly what it would be, an ornament.
she's actually a highly skilled gaffer in her own right. just sayin
Not what I expected, but still interesting. Can anyone tell me what glass cane is used for? I'm curious.
Probably for lampwork/torchwork or rolling the glob of glass in for color
+Steve Dawes He will roll a bubble of clear glass over them, making perfect lines of color. Google glass cane vase.

+zzionkitty that is awesome! thank you
It's not misleading if you know glass terminology. Be happy you learned something rather than getting angry because you expected something else.
