    As someone who engraved handblown decanters, I have one thing to say: "Hot damn!"

  • @RovingPunster
    @RovingPunster 5 лет назад

    Very pretty, but the base is so wide that it is only practical for wine consumed same-day, because unless you keep it topped off into the neck, anything within will begin degrading from oxygen due to the large internal surface area. For that reason, wide squat decanters are for table service of vintage wine (the wide bowl helps them breathe/de-gas SO2 faster), and tall slender ones are for storing stront/blended spirits.

    Would it be more efficient if u just put the glass on a lathe and turned it quick while keeping it centered with ease? Just wondering

      That way the glass brokes.

    @dbrooke1129 Did I say he did the art shows after high school? He did the art show circuit for several years after college. Then after years of selling out at art shows they bought the building. He designed the studio and installed all the studio equipment himself (saving much money). I'd say he has mastered that form, not to mention the detail he has put into them. They are way more complex than those bulb mini sculpters that in the videos that you have posted.

    If you marver less (none) when dropping out your neck - before the mould heat, you can get better optics. That way you can have plenty of latent heat to marver after the mould, thereby setting your optics in a way aluminum can't. Bulge up when blowing out that neck like a blown foot, too. Good job all around, though I would like to see some lift from the base to the shoulder.

    • @markbetz

      +Natalie Guzman The process is called "marvering." My understanding is that it smooths the finish of the glass and helps them control its shape.
