Running your canning playlist today to help during these hard days ahead of you an your family.. Troy will be deeply missed. I only wish I could hit the like button more than once😊sending prayers and love
I love okra too. Have you tried okra fritters. Basically it is cornbread fritters…cornmeal, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, evaporated milk and a little water mix well then add your thinly sliced okra and fry as you would your cornbread fritters in hot oil. YUM!
This is my only reason for growing okra. Last summer I had 25 plants, harvested okra every day for a few months. Pickled every bit of it. I gave some away, and ate every bite of the jars I kept. I love pickled okra!
I've found that a pickled okra finds a splendid home in a saturday afternoon bloody mary. Of course you don't have to drink to enjoy a pickled okra, you can just eat em as the are!!
I love your videos! You are my go to gal! I have a question.... I want to make picked okra but we only did a very small garden. This is our first garden. So we are just learning. I only get two or three okras a day. I have been washing them and then drying them off and laying them separately on parchment paper to freeze. After that I put them in double freezer bags. Can I use my frozen okra to make pickled okra? Sorry about rambling on more than I probably needed to. Lol
I don't think the texture of frozen would be crisp and good pickled. Maybe you could put them in the icebox...and collect enough to make a couple jars at the time. If you have too much brine, just keep in the icebox til next time...heat again and use. Thank you for watching. I'll help any time I can!!
Okra looks great. I love that book also. Love your tea kettle, it looks durable. I saw you post on Constance's video the other day. She's the person that I saw the strainer ladle in her video. BJ
You can get a double burner camp stove.....and use it. I did that before when I had an electric one. Troy put the propane bottle out on the front porch....ran the hose thru the window....and had the burners in the kitchen. It worked It would do 2 canners at a time
I absolutely love okra pickles! I canned cucumber dills today and, they also floated to the top. I had them packed pretty tightly, too. I used to have a tea kettle similar to yours, but mine was aluminum. Would love to find one that is stainless steel. Guess I'll have to check out Amazon. 😀
Brenda Stratton We like lots of the same things! I’m gonna be putting lots of dill okra up. The stainless tea kettles is handy! I got it off eBay years ago😀😀
Good morning Gay. I don't even like okra but these looked delightful lol. Now I have an unrelated question for you that not about okra but here goes. I just finished watching your casserole video and also Linda's pulled pork casserole and both of them had cheese and some type of chip on them or other crunchy topping. Do all casseroles have this topping? Over here a casserole is made by browning your floured meat, chicken or seafood, then add any combination or variety of vegetables, herbs and or spices added, then a brown gravy or with seafood a white sauce is poured over the casserole to cover. This is then baked in the oven for about an hour and a half or so. A stew is virtually the same but cooked on top of the stove instead of in the oven. So I was a tad confused lol, not hard to do these days lol. Hugs to you my friend, Michelle
To me a casserole isn’t real juicy. It’s where you can serve it usually in a chunk with little runny going on. Most of the time there’s cheese and/or chips or bread crumbs on top.
@@ApronstringsGayJordan Oh ok then we would call that a bake as in tuna bake or pasta bake usually with a cheesy topping and you are right it would be served in a chunk not very runny or juicy lol. Funny how the differences are in our own country hey? M.
bohemiangypsy99 😂😄 it is funny. Basically made alike but named differently. You have a great weekend! Today has been nice. Low humidity and in the 70’s. A true fall day.
Idk...they are crisp. Like a dill pickle. I don't have a list, but, if you email me what and which,...I will tell you where I got it. I want an amazon affiliate thingy, but, just havent set it up yet. Need grandkids here to help me. hahaha

Growing okra for sure next summer. Could you show other ways to cook it please? Thank you. You are such an inspiration!

Great demonstration, thank you!
You are welcome! Have a wonderful weekend, Mary!!!
Puckled okra is one of those things that i hated as a child, but love as an adult. The child in me was freaked out by the "hairs" on raw okra haha!
I've always loved it. Even as a kid. Boiled is wonderful!!!!
Lol “stand up there like a man and be counted”
😂😂😂😂

BJ7481 I ordered mine. Yes. That’s where I saw it , too!!! We just like lots of the same things😍😍😍
I’m going to do this when my okra comes in, they are baby plants at the moment 😊🇦🇺
I opened a jar today, and......it's half gone (a quart) lol I love it!!!!
I need a canner like that! I have a glass top stove and wondering what else I could use to do canning.
I’m also trying to learn to like okra! Lol

My son caleb and I could sit and eat a whole jar of those. Love them.
They’re sure yummy!!!
Great video. One question though, what do you do to prevent the okra slime? I pickled them, but they still came out a bit slimy.
usually the vinegar helps. I don't know any other method. I don't mind the slime.....I love okra. hahaha
@@ApronstringsGayJordan A few times I poked holes in the okra and then they weren’t slimy. But then, on another occasion they were.

I like it any way it’s fixed! Yum!!!!
Have you ever done the purple okra this way Gay? If so how did it come out and taste?
Terry Russell Every day Guy we’ve never grown the purple. Might have to try that. 😄😄
How do make them crisp?? No alum or lime?? DO you have a list of vendors for your equipment??
Idk...they are crisp. Like a dill pickle. I don't have a list, but, if you email me what and which,...I will tell you where I got it. I want an amazon affiliate thingy, but, just havent set it up yet. Need grandkids here to help me. hahaha
Do you add alum for crispness?
No...I don't ever. And it is crisp and good!!! Thank you for watching!!!! Have a wonderful week!
Can you use less salt? Husband had high blood pressure
I am not sure about that....I just follow the recipe. I am so sorry for not knowing!
I have never tried okra, not big where I come from.
Oh my!!!! You are missing out! Okra is so yummy!!!
Can I get the recipe?
It is at the end of the video. Thank you so much for watching!!!
