Xaphoon Pocket Sax Demo Lesson #2: Playing a Scale

- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2024
- Having mastered the mouth position, we now move on to familiarizing our fingers with the holes on the Xaphoon Pocket Sax. Since there are only nine holes, and most people have ten fingers, this is relatively simple. Don't forget to close your eyes while doing the exercises to make it easier to concentrate on the feeling in your fingers.
You are a great teacher! 15 minutes in and I'm producing a decent sound. Appreciate your tone, patience, and easy to follow instructions
Hi Bobby ... I'm thinking of getting one of these, but want to know prior if this is in the key of C or F like a recorder ... or in E or B flat like a regular metalic sax ... or anyone else here who may know ... pls pop me a reply
@@Brianbeesandbikes Wish I knew the answer. I really have no clue. I think it can produce any sound depending on the pressure and style. Sry, I wish I knew mors
@@Brianbeesandbikes the plastic xaphoon is in the tune of F major = d minor. However, the tone range spans from C to C (2 octaves). Since it is chromatic, you can play any scale on it.
Hi, from Brazil. I really wanted you to continue the videos to learn how to play xaphoon. You're the best teacher I have found on RUclips so far.

Same here
after 4 years still waiting for lesson 3 :)
+L'Utente Medio Same here - totally wrong to promise a series of tutorials and then sod off and ignore folks who need the help.
L'Utente Medio & AlanSturgess -- Since he hasn't posted another video in 7 years, I think it's fair to assume that sadly the xaphman is probably no longer with us. I also wished for those additional lessons and I'm sure he fully intended to give them to us.
zedxxx9 may it be a bit too far to assume hes dead?
9 years still waiting XD
I think he's not dead, over on the channel Ukelele Mania he seems to be still there, at least someone with the same type of Hawaiian shirt and the same pendent (though he doesn't show his face).
Hi Xaphman1! Just bought a xaphoon and was delighted to find your lessons on youtube. I'd love to see more lessons!!!!
Thank you for placing lessons for playing the xaphoon. I have had one for several years, but could not find where to get lessons. I was disappointed to see that you stopped at only 2 lessons. I hope that you find the time to continue with the lessons. Again, thank you for posting. You are a great teacher!
I have just bought one.
These first two videos are incredible to get us all making noise but there is a point when we get this far to move on.
It is up to us musicians to define our oun sound of get lessons.
Good luck & I wish everyone well with our own music Xx😍🎷🎷🥁🥁🥁🎙️🎶🎵🎼
Hey there, can you continue with the lessons? Just love it, can you do the video of lesson 3 plz? Best wishes
You're a very good teacher. And I'd love to get better with the Xaphoon, and I really hope to see lesson 3 someday :)
Yeah mine just arrived yesterday after years of meaning to get one, could use some technical exercisey bits if anybody could point me in the right direction? (Or better yet if some more of these videos are upcoming). I've been going over a couple of songs from home.arcor.de/xaphoon/xaphoonmelodies.pdf this book, but I can't seem to make them sound really nice yet. :P
Hi +Aidan Gant thank you for your book, it's full of nice music!
I bought my Xaphoon months ago but I still have big problem to play the overtone notes :( Do you have any good advice for that? :)
Just got my xaphoon! I didn't know they existed until recently. I'm loving the sound and portability, and looking forward to more of your videos!
That was really well explained, so clear and good advice. I really hope he's OK and if he could make more videos someday, it would be great and sure help a lot of beginners learn.
Hi, just got a Xaphoon 4 days ago. Although already managed to find out some important things by myself by trial and error :-), your advices are great and encouraging. I will continue to exercise as you adviced. Hope you find time for some other lesson.
Thank you mister I've just discovered that great instrument and I'll have fun with it
This is all such great advice! I look forward to your next lesson. ^_^
Still waiting for your next lesson ! Master ! :D
Looking forward to lesson 3!!
i CANNOT wait for your next video, you make my life worth living. i really wanna know more about xaphoons!!
Well that is unfortunate
@@paulgraham7070 lol paul, share me what you found since a year bro
Hi, can you tell me the name of the notes you are playing when decending down.
Thanks so much.
Mr. Xaphoon man. I have really enjoyed your last videos. Has your shop slowed down enough yet? I can't find any other good RUclips teachers. Hope everything is well. And hope you will make another lesson very soon. I just got my first bamboo Xaphoon from my grandpa in his will. He just passed after 6 months of fighting pancreatic cancer. Thanks again. And I look forward to finding your next video!!!
My instrument came with no instructions, 3 plastic "reeds"and a sheet of self adesive rubber pads about the size of my thumb nail. Any advice would be great
Thanks
Very well taught!
Just received mine in the mail today, you videos are excellent for making my first sounds, thanks for posting them! question though, on the saxophone you left hand is closer to the mouth piece, but in your video you have your right over your left. Is the that the correct way to hold the instrument or is that just a mater of personal preference?
No part 3 :(
Just realised this channel hasn’t uploaded in 12 years… 💀
Thank you sir, now I can blow my xaphoon.
CONGRATS..your one good player!!...mr:¿do you protect the mouth piece on the xaphoon?...send my regards from CHILE!
That is great, I'm looking forward to you next lesson :D
Lol its true I have no clue how many holes my saxophone has, and I've been playing it for 7 and a half years now
Wheres lesson 3?
vous faites la première leçon en français et maintenant en anglais ? cela ne va pas monsieur
How did he get a white xaphoon ? Don't see them in the store ....
The White Xaphoon was a limited edition Color Pocket Sax (my idea) that is no longer being made. (Now, there are only Wine Red and Cobalt Blue being made.) We still have a few White Xaphoons left at my shop in Tokyo, Ukulele Mania. We can ship internationally, and you can pay with PayPal. Our address is: info@ukulelemania.net
It would be nice you make the lessons three :)
Anybody else have trouble when they get to the low D and C and just get a honk? Is this common at first?
how much is the tool
I can't get past three notes...
I bought one today. it sounds like a Moose's mating call...
Farewell Mr. Xaphman
It seems your right hand is at the top (closest to your mouth) of the Xaphoon and left hand lower. Everyone else on You Tube has their hands reversed (left on top). Looking at your shirt I realized the buttons are on the wrong side (for a man's shirt) so your image is reversed. This makes it appear your right hand is on top when in actuality it is your left (like everyone else).
+HWPcville Same in all his uploads - including those for ukulele. If you look at those, he's fretting with his right and fingering with his left. The uke itself has NOT been strung for a leftie.
He mentions the left and right hand correctly, so think the video is just reversed.
A very important-seeming observation: about the mirror imaging. There was a comment below Video #1 which mentioned that the Chinese characters in the background were reversed, and that commenter said that the wall hanging was hung backwards; but if it is the case that the whole damn video is reversed, the appearance of that wall hanging would make sense. Also, I think I’m remembering seeing that the dished-out portions of the xaphoon body beside the holes did align with the lay of the man’s fingers, … and so I would take that as further evidence that the video itself is backwards on the screen. I could, therefore, observe the iPad in a mirror and get it all the right way around, eh?
I need more :(
Anyone think a Croc got him?

GIVE. ME. LESSON. THREE.
hey, Leute, wenn ihr das nicht übersetzen könnt,
dann macht doch wenigstens eine Lektion, bei der mehr gezeigt wird, statt geredet!
anyone here offering xaphoon tutorial for a fee? just the basic stuff
Sorry, I don't do lessons now. The basics are in the Xaphoon® instruction book. As for expression and vibrato, it's pretty much the same as a sax, so a sax teacher could help you with that.
@@UkuleleMania1 thanks for your response !
