    I don’t think able bodied/non-amputee people can fully grasp how genuinely dystopian it would be to have a fucking LOGO on your body part, with no option to opt out of being a walking advertisement.

    • @elenanojkovic2554
      @elenanojkovic2554 3 месяца назад +1147

      Non amputee here.
      I get why you'd want the company name on the product you make but...why not put somewhere where it can't be seen? Like on the inside of the socket (like on clothes, for example).
      I own a piece of medical equipment myself-my glasses. They are Ray Ban but you wouldn''t know that because the only place on the frame where the logo is, is on the INSIDE of the nose-bridge part of the glasses. The letters are TINY.
      This is part of the reason I chose this particular frame.
      If it can be done with glasses, which are not even a body part, as necessary as they are, why not with prosthetic limb?

    • @douglaswolfen7820
      @douglaswolfen7820 3 месяца назад +426

      As a non-amputee, I think you're right
      I'm imagining myself with a logo, and it feels fine. But that's just me imagining it, and only for a few seconds, as opposed to actually living with it for the rest of my life
      And more importantly, I'm choosing to imagine it. And as you say, that's probably the most important part. The ability to choose, or to opt out
      Intellectually, I think I can wrap my head around the idea that it's really not fun. But I can also tell that I'm really not grasping the full depth of it

    • @douglaswolfen7820
      @douglaswolfen7820 3 месяца назад +153

      @@elenanojkovic2554it can be done, but they make more money if they display the name clearly and visibly. They don't really have any financial incentive not to
      With the glasses, you've explained that you wouldn't buy them if the logo was massive and obvious. So they've got an incentive to be subtle. But I imagine it's different with prosthetics. When someone is picking a prosthetic, I imagine there are other factors that are just too important, and the logo isn't going to make anyone change their minds

      prosthesis, but I'm not fan of that either. I took the dealer decal off my car with adhesive remover. It's like, make me an itemized offer before putting an ad on my stuff thanks. Of course, the whole thing with prosthetics in the US is a consumer robbery like everything else here.

    If you want to customise your leg further, maybe you can put stickers on it (you could even look into ordering custom ones with funny phrases or cool designs that match your personality), possibly protecting them from wear by putting a transparent varnish on top? You could even try painting it, again with the clear varnish on top to prevent the paint from chipping.
    I’m not sure if any of this would interfere with normal use of the leg in any way though, I am not an amputee myself and I’m definitely not an expert at all

    I say this because I live in a house full of neurospicies I'm neurospicy and sometimes we have to remind ourselves that even though we felt like most of the day sucked not all of it did.
    Everyone has their different modality for remembering that mine if I'm having a really bad day and I feel like nothing has gone right is to write a list of the positive things that's happened in my day... So for me much like what the socks are doing right there it corrals up the the part I need to remember the most.
    also I really like the lacy sock over the white so it's the best.
    Couple places to find fun fairly cheap socks Jo-Ann's You can do it right online Also sometimes the dollar store or five below depending on what end of the stage you live in I also think maybe now you need to campaign for all of us to send you our right socks as we don't have the left ones anymore😅

    This actually reminds me of a reality t.v. episode that took place in the early 2000's at a tattoo parlor in Las Vegas. One of the main characters/tattoo artists actually inked up, so to speak, a prosthetic leg for a client. Looked very cool afterwards.
    Sorry for the random comment but this short reminded me of it.
