Lacrosse | Onondaga Nation | Trans World Sport

Situated south of Syracuse, in upstate New York, lies the present-day territory of the Onondaga Nation, where the indigenous people here maintain their sovereignty and operate outside of the general jurisdiction of New York State. The Onondaga are part of the Haudenosaunee, which is often referred to as the Iroquois Confederacy, or Six Nations. The other members include the Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca and Tuscarora. Together, they're united by traditions, beliefs and cultural values. One such tradition is the ancient game of Lacrosse.

My hat's off to Chief Oren Lyons. He was our goalie in the 1958 North South game at Hempstead , NY. I played attack and enjoyed going up against Oren in practice.

The creators game is the greatest game on earth. From a white boy from Canada. I have ancestors who were Native American but prob only 16% native. I feel my love for the game comes from them. It has taught me how to be the best team mate and that transferred to my job, construction.

I thank heavens I was brought up in Dewitt NY.. my dad was from the south side of Syracuse.. was friends with many Onondaga people.. and he introduced us to Lacrosse..❤️🥍

Without the "commercial sport" the Onondaga wouldn't have that Arena you see the little ones playing at. And they certainly wouldn't have the absolutely stunning Tsha’ Thoñ’nhes (Fieldhouse) that Nike sponsored. Oh, and one of those wooden sticks Alfie makes...those are $350 each (assuming you can get on his wait list).
